During the COVID-19, many people look for fun online. Watching livestreaming shows has become part of their lives. At the same time, traditional culture has found a bigger stage (舞台) online. Many traditional artists are starting to livestream like Douyin and Bilibili. Some of them sing Peking Opera, some make paper cutting, while others perform Chinese classical music. A growing number of young people are starting to become more interested in traditional culture because of live streaming.
Li Jun is a Peking Opera performer from the Shanghai Jingju Theater Company. The 59-year-old took up his smart phone and started livestreaming. Unlike performing on a real stage, Li uses common places as his stage, including his office and study room. Except singing, Li also teaches viewers (观众) about Peking Opera. People can ask him questions and get answers directly.
“Livestreaming has brought this traditional art down to earth.” One viewer said, “it gives young people an easier way to learn more about the traditional art.” Li has more than 6,000 fans on Douyin, while one of his videos got 42,000 views on Bilibili.
On March 26th, 2020, Bilibili livestreamed a huafu show on the third China Huafu Day. Performers showed clothes in traditional Chinese styles, including those from Wei, Tang and Ming dynasties. Open an app, place your order, and wait for your food to be delivered (递送) to your home—this is how many people eat in China these days. 421 million Chinese people use online food delivery services. That’s equal to (等于) half of the total number of internet users in China.
Which group of people is ordering food online the most? It’s undisputed that it’s mainly young people. A recent report showed that 86.3 of the service’s users are between 20 and 34 years old. These people, who live in small families, are the main groups driving the development of the food delivery.
Small families depend greatly on food delivery services. Chinese families have changed in size over the past 20 years. In 2002, only 7.7% of families were one-person family. But this number increased to 15.6% in 2022. The percentage (百分比) of two-person families went up from 18.4% in 2002 to 27.2% in 2022. For small families, cooking will be spent more time and will make wastes, so ordering food online has become more popular.
The improvement of China’s food delivery services has also attracted (吸引) more customers. According to Meituan’s report, it takes to make a food delivery dropped from 38 minutes in 2016 to 29 minutes in 2022. Many delivery platforms (平台) are also offering more services, delivering products such as fruit, vegetables, medicine and flowers. Delivery services are continuing to improve.

“Pure love, only for the country”—this is a sentence from the diary of Chen Xiangrong, a 19-year-old Chinese soldier who was stationed at the border of Galwan Valley. Unfortunately, Chen died during a border clash(边境冲突)between Chinese and Indian troops in June 2020.
Last June, Indian soldiers illegally crossed to the Chinese side of the Galwan Valley and set up tents, which forced the Chinese troops to react, Xinhua said.

Chen Hongjun, 33, Chen Xiangrong, 19, Wang Zhuoran, 24 and Xiao Siyuan, 24, died during the clash. Qi was the only one left alive, but was seriously injured.
