Watching foreign language films is a way to develop language skills. While watching a film, you are immersed(沉浸) in the language and can pick up new expressions that you might not find in a textbook. Some difficulties can arise when you watch foreign language films—for example unfamiliar colloquial expressions and strong regional accents. Here are my tips for making progress in English learning when you enjoy the films. • Choose a film type that you enjoy If you like action films, watch an action film—for example Indiana Jones. If you prefer comedies, watch a comedy—anything with Hugh Grant in always gets a laugh! In brief, choose something that interests you.• Choose something that you are familiar with It's best to start off with something simple because in this way you have a higher chance of understanding the film. Disney films such as The Lion King, or the more recently released Tangled, are classic examples. Other cartoons such as Rango and The Lego Movie are also worth watching.• If you need to, use subtitles(字幕) Subtitles are very helpful for beginners. Using subtitles in your own language is the easiest choice, but for more advanced learners, why not consider using English subtitles? This way, you can match the written words to what is spoken on screen. It helps you to further develop your language skills. I hope you find these tips useful—If you want to recommend a film to other users, feel free to use the comment section!1.Is watching foreign language films a way to develop language skills?_____________________________2.What film type should we choose to learn English?_____________________________3.Why is it best to start off with something simple?_____________________________4.What are helpful for beginners when they watch English films?_____________________________5.What is the passage mainly about?_____________________________三、A whooping crane is a large white North American crane famous for its loud call. You may weigh more than a whooping crane, but maybe you aren't taller than one! Whooping cranes can grow up to five feet tall. It makes them the tallest birds in North America. But even as tall as they are, whooping cranes weigh only about 15 pounds, because of their hollow(空心的) bones. WHAT'S FOR DINNER? Whooping cranes live in wetlands, wet prairies, and fields. They're not picky(挑剔的) about their meals— they have a mixed diet and eat small fish, and insects, as well as grains and marsh plants. CALL OF THE WILD Whooping cranes really like to "whoop it up" when they want to attract a mate (伙伴). They call loudly and do what might look like a crazy dance to be eye-catching. They flap their wings, and move their heads from side to side quickly, jumping up and down. A SPECIAL TRICK These cranes are in danger, but scientists have used some very interesting tricks to help them stay alive. At first, they moved one group of cranes to Florida, but the cranes never learned to migrate(迁徙). When they got to Florida, they didn't know how to fly back home. Scientists did all they could do to make the number of the cranes larger, so they used a special trick with another Florida group of cranes. Scientists "taught" the younger cranes to migrate by having them follow a very light airplane from Florida to Wisconsin. After the cranes gave birth to their babies in Florida, they'd follow the plane back to Wisconsin! Some whooping cranes stay in Florida all year round, some fly from Florida to Wisconsin, and others fly from Texas to Canada and back again each year.Whooping Cranes① ______ areasA whooping crane is from North America.Looks▲Whooping cranes can be five feet in ②______.▲They weigh only about 15 pounds ③______ their bones are hollow.FoodThey ④______ on small fishes, insects, grains and plants.QualitiesTo catch a mate's eyes, whooping cranes use a ⑤______ voice, they also flap their wings and ⑥______ their heads quickly.Fun facts▲ Scientists moved one group of cranes to Florida, but they were not ⑦______ to fly back.▲ Scientists wanted to have ⑧______ cranes through hard work.▲ Scientists used a plane to ⑨______ the younger birds from Florida to Wisconsin.▲ Some whooping cranes stay in Florida all year round, while ⑩______ migrate each year.四、 Hummingbirds (蜂鸟) are one of the smallest birds in the world. They are found only in America. They are called hummingbirds because they make a humming noise when they fly. They make this noise because they beat their wings so fast. Hummingbirds are well-known for their ability to move their wings fast. They can move their wings up to 70 times in a second. Most of them are 7.5—13cm long. The Bee Hummingbird is the smallest at just 5cm. The largest is the Giant Hummingbird reaching over 20cm. Most hummingbirds weigh less than 4 grams. They eat mostly nectar(花蜜), and they also eat insects. They need to eat at least half their body weight of food each day. No other bird on Earth can fly like a hummingbird. They can move their wings in a circle (圆圈), so they can fly forwards, backwards, up, down, sideways and hover (盘旋)in mid air. This type of flying can be quite an exercise. That's why hummingbirds eat a lot of food each day. Hummingbirds have no sense of smell but have very good eyesight. They can see and hear better than humans. They find their food through bright colours. They like red flowers. They are often seen flying near small flowers because they can't reach deep in larger flowers. They can visit over a thousand flowers every day. Some facts about hummingbirds① ______ placeHummingbirds can be found only in America.NameHummingbirds get their name because of the humming sound their ②______ make when they fly.Size and③______Hummingbirds are usually 7. 5—13cm long. In autumn, many of the geese migrate (迁徙) to warmer places. They usually fly to northern Mexico(墨西哥), but lately many began to fly to the south of the USA. This may be because it is warmer there now than it was in the past. Canada geese fly very fast. They can fly as fast as 100 kilometres per hour. The geese usually travel in groups of about 100, but groups of 1,000 are common. On cloudy days, the geese will fly lower, but on sunny days they can fly as high as 2,500 metres. Canada geese know when to migrate by checking how long and how warm the days are. They also wait until the young geese learn to fly. When the day becomes shorter and the temperature (气温) gets lower, they know it is time to leave. This is usually at the end of August. A few days before leaving, all the geese get very excited. They start honking(雁叫)and making a lot of noise. The Canada geese make a "V" shape in the sky when they fly south. This helps them fly more easily through the air. The first goose pushes through the air, and this makes it easier for the other geese to follow. Each goose takes a turn to be the first goose. No one is sure how the geese find their way. Some scientists think that geese use the stars at night to help them know where they are.1.Where do Canada geese spend spring and summer?2.Why do some geese now fly to the south of the USA?3.How many geese fly in a group?4.What do they do when they fly on cloudy days?5.Why do the geese fly in a "V" shape?
