= 1 \* ROMAN I. 非限制性定语从句:
非限制性定语从句是对主句的补充说明,有时是对先行词的补充说明,有时修饰主句的整个句子;翻译成汉语时可译作并列句。非限制性定语从句的从句部分去掉后不影响主句意思的明确或完整。这种定语从句一般用逗号与主句分开。在非限制性定语从句中通常不用关系代词that。
1. 从句部分去掉,句子意思完整。
(1) He has a sister, wh is a teacher.
他有一个姐姐,她是老师。(他只有一个姐姐,这个姐姐是当老师的。如果从句部分去掉,意思表达清楚,姐姐是老师只是附加说明。)
(2) He has a sister wh is a teacher.
他有一个当老师的姐姐。(他至少有两个以上的姐姐,其中只有一位是当老师的。如果从句部分去掉,意思表达不清楚。)
2. 从句部分去掉,句子不存在逻辑上的问题。
Mary is a gd student, wh studies in N. 1 Middle Schl.
玛莉是一位好学生,她在第一中学学习。
Mary is a gd student.
玛莉是一位好学生。(从句部分去掉后,句子不存在逻辑上的问题。)
Ⅱ. 关系代词引导的非限制性定语从句:
1. 修饰人时用wh, whm, 或whse,修饰物表示所属关系时用whse。
(1) Mr. Wang, wh is an ld kind man, lves his students very much.
王先生是一位慈祥的老人,他非常爱他的学生。
(2) She had three children, tw f whm became teacher.
她有三个孩子,其中有两个是老师。
(3) He is an experienced and patient surgen, whse patients respect him.
他是一位有经验而又耐心的外科医生,患者都尊重他。
(4) This is an ld tree, whse age is ver 200 hundred years.
这是一棵古老的树,树龄已有二百多年了。
2. 修饰物时用which。
(1) He nce saved an ld man, which was reprted in the TV.
他曾经救过一位老人,这件事在电视上报道过。(which代表主句所述事实)
(2) Dr. Wang was very patient t his patients, which Dr. Zhang seldm was.
王大夫对病人很有耐心,张大夫却很少这样。
Ⅲ. 关系副词引导的非限制性定语从句:
1. 修饰地点时用where。
(1) They will visit Shanghai, where they plan t stay fr ne week.
他们将要到上海参观,在那儿计划呆一周。
(2) He finally reached the place, where he dreamed lng time.
他终于到了那地方,这是他向往已久的地方。
2. 修饰时间时用when。
(1) We will put ff the sprts meeting next mnth, when we wn’t be s busy.
我们将把运动会推迟到下月,那时我们不会这么忙了。
(2) Twenty years ag, when I was in the primary schl, the twn was very big.
二十年前这个小镇很大,那时我还在上小学。
附1:“介词 + 关系代词”结构的用法:
1. “介词 + 关系代词”结构在定语从句中作状语。
(1) The letter fr which we were waiting has been received.
我们在等的信已经收到了。
(2) Dr. Li fr whm yu asked has arrived.
你找的李大夫已到。
注意:关系代词作介词的宾语时,不能用that,此时介词在关系代词前。
2.“名词 / 代词 + f + 关系代词”结构的用法:
(1) Mst peple understand her speech, the idea f which was clear.
多数人能理解她的演讲,中心很明了。
(2) She has three children, all f whm were cllege students.
她有三个孩子,他们都是大学生。
附2:在定语从句中,下列几种情况只能用that。
1.先行词有两个,一个指人,一个指物时,只能用that。
She likes her class and her students that make her wrk harder.
她喜欢使她更加努力工作的班级和学生。
2.当先行词为all, nthing, smething等不定代词时,只能用that。
(1) Nt all glitters that is gld.
闪光的未必都是金子。
(2) Nthing can prevent us that we have decided.
我们已经决定的事什么也阻止不了。
3.当先行词为形容词最高级所修饰时,只能用that。
The best thing that yu have dne is ging hme and visiting yur parents every year.
你做得最好的事是每年回家看望你的父母亲。
附3:非限制性定语从句中作宾语的关系代词不能省略。
