CBE prgrams have made use f many new technlgies, especially internet and nline media. This helps reduce barriers fr nntraditinal and ther students by bringing higher educatin t them. And prgrams that permit students t wrk at their wn speed may save students' mney by reducing the time it takes fr them t earn a degree.
But sme educatrs have cncerns abut the value f the educatin that CBE prgrams ffer. Jhann Neem at Western Washingtn University argues that the purpse f higher educatin is nt simply t help students master certain skills. In April, 2005, I was apprached by a student wh was interested in ur dctral prgram. Hwever, the first questin ut f her muth was, “D yu ffer any nline curses?” Later that day, as I was reading the cnference prgram guide trying fr interesting presentatins, I nticed many wrkshps n web-based learning and nline educatin. I later attended tw f thse wrkshps and met several prfessrs frm different universities wh had either taught nline curses fr quite sme time r wh were discvering the best practice fr teaching nline. These experiences helped me realize at least t sme extent the degree f grwth in nline educatin.
My respnsibilities fr the term included gaining mre understanding f nline educatin. Cnsequently, I made several attempts t enrich my knwledge f distance learning and nline teaching. I cnsulted with my clleagues wh were teaching nline curses. This helped me recgnize the imprtance f getting materials prepared even befre the start f a term. I als learned that nline curses may cnsume mre time than regular classrm teaching. And I attended several wrkshps regarding nline educatin and established a netwrk with thse wh were invlved in nline prgrams at ther universities. I will cnsider these peple as my cnsultants as I begin t design my wn nline curse. Als, I cnducted a brief survey with 15 students and tw faculty members wh had taken r taught an nline curse befre t understand their experience. Eventually I cmpleted a literature review which gave me the fundatin and the backgrund f understanding the need fr nline educatin.

(2021·湖南师大附中高三月考) Prfessr Ashk Gel f Gergia Tech develped an artificially intelligent teaching rbt, Knwledge- Based Artificial Intelligence, t help handle the enrmus number f student questins in the nline class. This nline curse is a cre requirement f Gergia Tech's nline Master f Science in Cmputer Science prgram. Prfessr Gel already had eight teaching assistants, but that wasn't enugh t deal with the verwhelming number f daily questins frm students.
Many students drp ut f nline curses because f the lack f teaching supprt. When students feel islated r cnfused and reach ut with questins that g unanswered, their mtivatin t cntinue begins t taper ff. Prfessr Gel decided t d smething t remedy this situatin and his slutin was t create a virtual assistant named Jill Watsn, which is based n the IBM Watsn platfrm.
Gel and his team develped several versins f Jill Watsn befre releasing her t the nline frums. At first, the virtual assistant wasn't t great. But Gel and his team surced the nline discussin frum t find all the 40, 000 questins that had ever been asked since the class was launched. Then they began t feed Jill with the questins and answers. After sme adjustments and sufficient time, Jill was able t answer the students' questins crrectly 97% f the time. The virtual assistant became s advanced and realistic that the students didn’t knw she was a cmputer.
The students, wh were studying artificial intelligence, were interacting with the virtual assistant and culdn't tell it apart frm a real human being. Gel didn’t infrm them abut Jill's true identity until April 26. The students were actually very psitive abut the experience.
The gal f Prfessr Gel’s virtual assistant next year is t take ver answering 40% f all the questins psed by students n the nline frum. The name Jill Watsn will, f curse, change t smething else next semester. Prfessr Gel has a much rsier utlk n the future f artificial intelligence than, say, Eln Musk, Stephen Hawking, Bill Gates r Steve Wzniak.

    Passage 6
(2021·浙江舟山市·) A PROFESSOR at Lyla University New Orleans taught his first nline class frm his curtyard, wearing a bathrbe (浴袍). The truble caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has drawn varius respnses at clleges struggling t cntinue teaching. This is widely being referred t as “nline higher educatin.” There are even predictins that it will lead t a permanent departure frm real campuses t virtual classrms. Hwever, all indicatins suggest that it prbably wn’t.
Real nline educatin lets students mve at their wn pace. Additinally, develping a real nline curse can cnsume as much as a year. “That is nt what is happening right nw,” said Vijay Gvindarajan, a prfessr at Dartmuth’s Tuck Schl f Business. “What is happening nw is we had eight days t put everything we d in class nt Zm.”
What students are mistaking nw fr nline educatin — lng class meetings in videcnference rms, prfessrs in their bathrbes, DIY teaching tls — appears t be making them less pen t it. In a survey f 14,000 cllege students in early April, 67 percent said they didn’t find nline classes as effective as in-persn nes. Amng high schl senirs, fewer than ne in ten thught they wuld cnsider nline cllege classes.
These pinins suggest that there is little likelihd that students will cmpletely abandn their real-wrld campuses fr cyberspace. Students wh want classes best prvided face t face, such as thse in the perfrming arts r thse which require lab wrk, will mst likely cntinue t take them that way.
There will be sme imprtant lasting influences, thugh. Students are experiencing a flexible type f learning they may nt like as undergraduates. The trend may nt transfrm higher educatin, but it is likely t prmte the cmbinatin f technlgy int it.
“Let’s take advantage f this mment t start a larger cnversatin abut the whle design f higher educatin,” said Dr. Gvindarajan. “We had better nt lse this pprtunity.”
20.Accrding t the article, thse wh study ______ will be mre likely t take nline classes in cllege.
    A.musical dramaB.applied physics
    C.chemical engineeringD.cmputer science

    A.get rid f the real-wrld campuses
B.lwer the cst f develping big curses
    C.use digital technlgies t satisfy students’learning needs
D.prvide mre students with access t curses f high quality
22.We can learn frm the article that ______.
A.it is easy fr mst university prfessrs t teach nline
B.Dr. Gvindarajan was psitive abut the utlk fr nline educatin
C.nline classes wrked better amng high schlers than amng undergraduates

While nline schls d have attendance requirements, an nline schl can be mre flexible (灵活的). And, the nline high schl students dn’t have t wrry abut what t wear r what their classmates will say abut hw they lk that day.
An nline high schl student needn’t be wrried abut a class that is mving t quickly r t slwly fr him. Likewise, he may be able t take advantage f curse fferings that suit his wn learning style. Fr example, sme nline high schls ffer cursewrk that meets the needs f visual (视觉的) r auditry (听觉的) learners in additin t thse wh can learn frm traditinal schls.

Fr example, if a student is training in dancing, he may have mre time t practice. If anther student is learning a musical instrument, he may have mre time fr that as well. Even part-time wrk and scializing may fit better int the life f a student taking advantage f the flexibility ffered by an nline schl.
23.What’s the difference between traditinal high schl and nline high schl?
    A.Range f classes t learn.B.Traditin f teaching.
    C.Ways f selecting curses.D.Chances f learning basics.

C.By slwing dwn the teaching pace.
D.By reducing the time f cursewrk.
26.What’s the best title f the text?
    A.Traditinal Schls r Online SchlsB.Strengths f Traditinal Schls
