2.激发学生兴趣,让学生向他人介绍自己了解的火车发展史。
掌握以下重点句子:
①In the 1700s,many scientists worked on steam engines.
②Early trains were slow by today’s standards.
③Today’s high-speed trains can travel at about 300 kilometres per hour.
④Maybe trains will have no wheels in the future.
Step 1 Lead-in
Lead in by discussing the following questions:
What did many scientists do in the 1700s?
When was the first railway born?
What is the speed of today’s trains?
Show some pictures of different trains. Let the students discuss the questions in groups. Then present their results in front of the class. The styles are different. They can be dialogues or reports.
Step 2 Listening
Listen to the tape and fill in the blanks with the words you hear.

2.During the 1930s,countries all over the world started to build________.
3.Trains may have no________in the future.
Finish the task in class in oral.
Step 3 Reading
Read the passage and answer the following questions:
1.When did people have the steam train?
2.What was the name of the first passenger train?
3.What is the speed of the high speed trains?
Finish the task in class in oral.
Step 4 Practice
Make sentences with the language points:

S1:Many scientists are working on a new kind of computer.

S2:They say they have friends all over the world.

S3:Don’t get off the bus until it stops.
Step 5 Activities
Introduce what you know about the train to class. Work in groups. At the same time, the teacher walks around the students to see if they have any questions.
Discuss for a while, then let some students come to the front to show their introductions.
Step 6 Come to “Let’s Do It!”
Read the lesson and finish Exercise 1.Listen to the tape and finish off Exercise 2 in class.
Work in pairs and talk about the history of trains.
