Brden's big visin is t bring abut "new eyes" in yung children in terms f hw they see the sky. But the mst effective teachers and influencers f children -their parents-need t becme "sky aware" themselves in rder t pass the gift alng.
And there's the rub.
"Culd yu describe the sky right nw, withut lking ut f yur windw? Are there cluds? If s. what d they lk like? Nine chances ut f 10, yu dn't have a clue abut the sky's appearance," says Brden. "We knw that peple are nt lking at the sky. If they perceive the sky at all, it's in the cntext f the weather r astrnmy. ”
"Sky awareness means expanding yur hrizns s that. yu begin t see that the sky is the prvince. nt just f the weather reprter. but f the phtgrapher. the artist. the pet, the dreamer. f the physical scientist." says Brden.
And it's the prvince f parents and their children.

A man sits n the cuch, his dg asleep in the next rm. He thinks, "I shuld take Daisy fr a walk." and suddenly his dg cmes bunding in the rm. leash (牵狗皮带) in muth.
A cat curls up next t the phne just befre a family member calls, but never when anyne else is abut t call.
There are s many stries f pets seeming t knw mre than their natural senses wuld allw that it has been the subject f study and debate fr years. Are their natural senses even greater than we ever imagined? Or d they have a sixth sense?
Bilgist Rupert Sheldrake believes that animals have an ability f telepathy (心灵感应). Pets whm we feel especially clse t seem t understand ur needs. read ur mds. and even cmmunicate with us n a level that ges beynd wrds r bdy language.
Physician and authr Dr. Larry Dssey says there is a cnnectin between all species, which is nt limited by lcality. He refers t it as a "nnlcal mind". Cnsciusness is n restricted t the brain r the bdy, r time r place. Therefre. peple and animals can have an effect n each ther, even when miles apart.
Traditinal scientists remain sceptical abut the ability f telepathy amng peple-let alne pets. They say much f the phenmenn can be explained in ther ways, thrugh pets' acute senses f hearing and smell, reading human bdy language, r nting ther cues.
Dgs and cats live mstly in a scent (气味) and sund wrld. It may be that when an wner thinks abut taking her dg fr a walk, this happy thught causes a change in her bdy chemistry, which the dg can smell and assciate with walks.
A simpler explanatin is that wners ntice their pets' mysterius behavirs nly when related events happen by cincidence. The cat may curl up by the phne nw and then, but the wner desn't ntice. If the cat happens t sit by the phne when "dad" calls. the wner is mre likely t take nte.
There is n dubt that ur pets live n a sensry level that's different frm ur wn. Thugh we share the same five knwn senses, dgs and cats take in their wrld mstly thrugh scent and sund. We take in ur wrld mstly thrugh sight. S it's nt surprising that ur pets are able t d things that we can't imagine culd be pssible.
( )28. The underlined part "nnlcal mind" in Paragraph 5 indicates that pets and their wners can cmmunicate thughts _________.
A. wherever they are B. wherever they like

( )29. Hw des a dg prbably knw its wner will take it fr a walk?
A. By cincidence B. Thrugh bdy language.
C. Thrugh sense f smell D. Thrugh sense f hearing.
( )30. What is the authr's explanatin fr pets' unusual ability?
A. Their five natural senses are greater than urs.
B. Their sensry system wrks differently frm urs.
C. They can understand ur mind withut wrds.
D. They can cmmunicate withut the five senses.
( )31. What can be a suitable title fr the text?

Individuals wh learn tw languages at an early age seem t switch back and frth between separate "sund systems" fr each language, accrding t a new study.
The study lked at 32 Spanish-English early bilingual (双语的) speakers, wh had earned their secnd language befre age 8. They were presented with wrds beginning with a 'pa' r a 'ba' sund.
While 'pa' and 'ba' sunds exist in bth English and Spanish, hw thse sunds are prduced and perceived in the tw languages varies slightly. Bth grups heard audi recrdings f variatins f the same tw wrds-bafri and pafri-which are nt real wrds in either language. Participants were then asked t identify whether the wrds they heard began with a 'ba' r a 'pa' sund.
The findings: Participants perceived 'ba' and 'pa' sunds differently depending n whether they were tld they were hearing Spanish wrds. r whether they were tld they were hearing English wrds.
"What this shwed is that when yu put them in English mde. they actually wuld act like English speakers. and then if yu put them in Spanish mde. they wuld switch t acting like Spanish speakers. "Gnzales said. " This shws bilinguals d have tw different sunds systems and that they can switch between ne language and the ther and then use that sund system. "
"But if yu learn a secnd language later in life. yu usually have a dminant language and then yu try t use that sund system fr the ther language. which is why yu end up having an accent." he said.
"The general view is that bilinguals will never be able t perceive a secnd language beynd what a late learner is capable f. S even if yu learn tw languages frm birth. yu're always ging t perceive ne f them like a late learner. " Gnzales said. "Our findings cast dubt n that. "
( )32. In what way were the English "pafri" and the Spanish "pafri" different?
A. In grammar. B. In meanings. C. In spelling. D. In prnunciatin.
( )33. What did the study want t find ut by dividing the bilinguals int tw grups?
A. Hw well they understd the tw languages.
B. Hw they perceived sunds fr each language.
C. Whether they culd identify unreal wrds in bth languages.
D. Whether they culd tell the difference between bafri and pafri.
( )34. Which f the fllwing is the cause f "an accent" mentined in Paragraph 7?
A. English mde. B. Spanish mde. C. A secnd language. D. A dminant language.
( )35. What can be cncluded abut carly bilinguals accrding t the study?
A. They perceive bth languages like a native speaker.
B. They can use tw sund systems at the same time.
C. They have tw sund systems fr each language.
D. They perceive a secnd language like a late learner.
