As a result, families grew smaller and parents culd give mre attentin t fewer children. On the ther hand, new technlgy has als created emtinal distance amng families.
    Cultures als change when they cme int cntact with ther cultures. Immigratin, fr example, ften results in cultural change fr bth immigrants and the hst culture. Immigrants ften bring with them different ideas, fd, music, languages, and manners when they mve t a new culture. In Canada, fr example, the gvernment has a plicy f multiculturalism where immigrants are encuraged t share their backgrund cultures with Canadians while adpting and accepting Canadian culture.
    Cultural change can ccur due t larger events. Fr example, ecnmic depressin, war, and disaster can endanger scieties, which must adapt t these challenges and events. Because f these changes in sciety, ideas and ways f life als affect the entire culture. Fr example, during Wrld War Ⅱ, many American men were sent far ff t fight. Cnsequently, wmen suddenly needed t wrk in the factries. As a result f this change, it is n lnger culturally acceptable t believe that they shuld nt have the right t wrk.

    The study indicates that kids in diverse cmmunities may grw up t have pen minds. Gd news fr families living in such neighbrhds--- but can ther families d smething t increase children’s cultural expsure?
    Cultural diversity can be within reach, even in unlikely areas. Althugh she grew up in nt very diverse, Julie, 23, said she picked up much knwledge abut ther languages and cultures frm many students, her family hsted thrugh the AFS-USA internatinal student exchange prgram.
    “It’s the little differences that make yu mre understanding and less judgmental, ”Julie said “Yuilya frm Kazakhstan, fr example, was very disciplined because she culdn’t g t cllege unless her grades were gd. Matias frm Paraguay wasn’t used t being n time because his culture is mre laid-back. ”
    Fr families unable t hst a student fr a whle year, AFS-USA ffers ther vlunteer pprtunities, such as being “welcme families”t ease students’ transitins(过渡).
    But there are cuntless ways t expse kids t ther cuntries, said Lucas, authr f “Grwing Up Glbal: Raising Children t Be at Hme in the Wrld. ”
    Just a few f her tips: Take the kids t freign films. Try extic restaurants. Put a wrld map n the wall. Help yur children’s teachers make glbal classrms. Encurage the kids t invite friends f ther cultures fr dinner. “They’ll thank yu later, ”Lucas said.
