    “A mther and the kid rely a lt n smell t recgnize ne anther and, in the wild, during the first week f their lives, the animals hide in grass and dn't call much. It's a strategy they use t avid enemies,” Dr Eldie Briefer, wh led the research, explained t BBC News. “The mther calls t the kids when she wants them t cme and feed, s we expected that kids wuld recgnize the mthers' vices.” In fact, this was the case fr deer, which als use this hiding strategy, althugh they d nt belng t the same family f species as gats.


    She and her team recrded and played back yung kids' calls t the female gats and recrded their respnses.
