The actual history of magazines can date back to the newspaper industry. The newspaper industry wanted to do more indepth articles and articles that needed much more research.  From time to time,  the larger newspapers included weekly insert sections (插入版块) that were smaller. These inserts would include longer stories,  indepth interviews, and of course, photographs. It was in these inserts that the first magazines were born. Of course, this was an idea that soon took off. The readers loved having these small inserts which were convenient for them to take and read when they were free. As time went by, people became more interested in the world around them. Magazines began to realize that they would benefit (受益) from being specialized. For example, as voting numbers grew in the United States, magazines that were only about election news and politics began to come  out. Nowadays, magazines can be found on many different topics. Schools put out magazines for various reasons, so do companies and businesses. The industry has completely grown and succeeded. The other side of the magazine industry is known as gossip magazines. These are magazines that focus on the people that are well known. These magazines sometimes contain correct information about their private lives, and sometimes contain information that doesn't come from facts. All in all, magazines work together to fill an important position. Unlike nonfiction books that can take months to be put out into the market, and unlike newspapers that need to be put out each day, magazines are put out each week, every two weeks, each month, or in longer periods.  This means that they can still put out news that is fresh, but that their reporters can take the time that they need to provide their readers with wellwritten stories. 1We can learn from Paragraph 1 that the magazine ________.Awas difficult for the reporters to researchBstarted from the inserts of some newspapersCexperienced the same history as the newspaperDdeveloped as fast as the newspaper in the past答案:B 细节理解题。 2Why did specialized magazines about political news appear in the United States?ATo educate the public.BTo introduce great leaders.CTo draw readers' attention.DTo get support from famous leaders. 3Gossip magazines are the ones that ________.Ainclude nothing but untrue informationBare mainly about important election newsCmake more people become famous quicklyDmainly introduce famous people's private lives答案:D 细节理解题。 4Compared with newspapers, magazines ________.Afocus more on politicsBhave many more readers Cprovide readers with betterwritten stories Dtake a shorter time to be put out into the market答案:C 细节理解题。 B(2019·全国卷)Before the 1830s, most newspapers were sold through annual subscriptions in America, usually $8 to $10 a year. Today $8 or $10 seems a small amount of money, but at that time these amounts were forbidding to most citizens. Accordingly, newspapers were read almost only by rich people in politics or the trades. In addition, most newspapers had little in them that would appeal to a mass audience. They were dull and visually forbidding. But the revolution that was taking place in the 1830s would change all that. The trend, then, was toward the“penny paper”—a term referring to papers made widely available to the public. It meant any inexpensive newspaperperhaps more importantly it meant newspapers that could be bought in single copies on the street. This development did not take place overnight. It had been possible(but not easy)to buy single copies of newspapers before 1830, but this usually meant the reader had to go down to the printer's office to purchase a copy. Street sales were almost unknown. However, within a few years, street sales of newspapers would be commonplace in eastern cities. At first the price of single copies was seldom a penny—usually two or three cents was charged—and some of the older wellknown papers charged five or six cents. But the phrase “penny paper” caught the public's fancy, and soon there would be papers that did indeed sell for only a penny. This new trend of newspapers for“the man on the street” did not begin well. Some of the early ventures (企业) were immediate failures. Publishers already in business, people who were owners of successful papers, had little desire to change the tradition. It took a few youthful and daring businessmen to get the ball rolling. 5Which of the following best describes newspapers in America before the 1830s?AAcademic.   BUnattractive.CInexpensive.   DConfidential. 6What did street sales mean to newspapers?AThey would be priced higher.BThey would disappear from cities.CThey could have more readers.DThey could regain public trust. 7Who were the newspapers of the new trend targeted at?ALocal politicians.   BCommon people.CYoung publishers.   DRich businessmen. 8What can we say about the birth of the penny paper?AIt was a difficult process.BIt was a temporary success.CIt was a robbery of the poor.DIt was a disaster for printers. .短文改错(2019·全国卷)I became interesting in playing football thanks to a small accident. One afternoon where I was in primary school, I was walking by the school playground. Suddenly football fell just in front of me but almost hit me. I stopped the ball and kicked it hardly back to the playground. To everyone's surprising, the ball went into the net. All the football player on the playground cheered loudly, say that I had a talent for football. From now on, I started to play my football with classmates after school. I am a good player now. become interested in 变得对…… to one's surprise 文章讲述的是过去发生的事情,应该用from then on,意为从那时起from now on意为从现在起10.
