Origins f the Paralympics (1948-1960)
The Paralympics is an internatinal sprts event fr athletes with physical disabilities. The riginal idea came frm a dctr named Ludwig Guttmann in England shrtly after Wrld War I. Guttmann was interested in imprving the lives f sldiers dependent n wheelchairs. He therefre decided t arrange a sprts cmpetitin between a small grup f patients n the same day as the pening f the 1948 Olympic Games. This small event slwly grew, and in 1960 ti became knwn as the first Paralympic Games. It was decided that frm then n the Paralympics wuld be held in the same year and cuntry as the Olympic Games. Nwadays, the Paralympic Games take place in the same cities as the Olympics and use the same venues a shrt time later.
