A defining relative clause describes the noun before it. 2. We cannot take it out of a sentence because it contains important information. 3. If we take the defining relative clause out of a sentence, the sentence may not give enough information to make much sense. 如:A calligrapher is someone. (✗)4. We can use who, which or that in defining relative clauses. 限制性定语从句可用 who、which 或 that 引导。结构公式: 先行词(名词/代词) + 关系代词(who / which / that) + 从句其余部分位置: 定语从句放在它所描述的名词(先行词)之后 —— We use a defining relative clause to describe a noun that comes before the clause. A calligrapher is someone. (✗) → A calligrapher is someone who practises the art of writing beautifully with a brush. (✓)【易错提醒】❌ A calligrapher is someone.(删去从句后信息不足,句意不完整)✅ A calligrapher is someone who practises the art of writing beautifully with a brush.❌ The painting that I loved it the most was by Claude Monet.(that 已替代 the painting 作 loved 的宾语,不可再用 it)✅ The painting that I loved the most in the museum was by Claude Monet. (T/F):A defining relative clause can be taken out of a sentence, and the sentence still gives enough information.【答案】________________________________________2. The person who painted this landscape is very talented.【答案】________________________________________3. Here is a poster for the museum show. It is on 20 October.【答案】________________________________________4. Students will learn about modern art techniques. These may be unfamiliar to them.【答案】________________________________________语法点二:关系代词 who / which / that【语法规则】1. We use relative pronouns to introduce relative clauses. 2. We use who to refer to people. who 指人。3. We use which to refer to things. which 指物。4. We use that to refer to people and things. that 既可指人也可指物。5. 当先行词为 someone、somebody、something、the one 等不定指代词时,常用 that/who 引导定语从句。2. Calligraphy is now one of my hobbies that help me relax.(help 与复数先行词 hobbies 一致)【易错提醒】❌ The artists which created these works are well known.(指人不用 which)✅ The artists who/that created these works are well known.❌ This is the painting who I like best.(指物不用 who)✅ This is the painting (that/which) I like best.❌ The one that I like best it is very colourful.(从句中不可再用 it 重复指代)✅ The one (that) I like best is very colourful. 用 who / which / that 填空:Calligraphy is an art form ______ is very popular in China.【答案】________________________________________2. 用 who / which / that 填空:Several artists ______ are famous for their creativity will attend the event.【答案】________________________________________3. 用 who / which / that 填空:It's a painting of three girls ______ live in the countryside.【答案】________________________________________4. 用 who / which / that 填空(可省略请注明):The techniques ______ the artist uses to paint people are quite creative.【答案】________________________________________5. 用 who / which / that 填空(可省略请注明):The one ______ I like best is very colourful.【答案】________________________________________四、重点句型翻译练习以下各句均为教材五个课时的核心句。 Welcome to the unit — Four treasures of the study (p.74)第2课时 Reading — Writing as an art form (pp.75-78)第3课时 Grammar — Defining relative clauses (pp.79-81)第4课时 Integration — Different worlds of paintings (pp.82-85)第5课时 Assessment and Further study — Su Shi (p.86)五、易错点归纳与练习易错点1:who / which / that 混用(指人误用 which,指物误用 who)❌ 错误:The artists which created these works are well known at home and abroad.✅ 正确:The artists who/that created these works are well known at home and abroad.【讲解】先行词指“人”时用 who 或 that,指“物”时用 which 或 that。 本句先行词 the artists 指人,故只能用 who/that。 The artists which created these works are well known at home and abroad.【答案】________________________________________2. 改错:This is the painting who I like best.【答案】________________________________________3. The person ______ painted this landscape is very talented. A. creates B. create C. creating D. to create【答案】________________________________________易错点3:动名词(短语)作主语,谓语动词用第三人称单数❌ 错误:Learning calligraphy have undoubtedly helped me develop my ability to focus.✅ 正确:Learning calligraphy has undoubtedly helped me develop my ability to focus.(教材原句)【讲解】单个动名词或动名词短语作主语时,谓语动词用第三人称单数。 Learning calligraphy have undoubtedly helped me develop my ability to focus.【答案】________________________________________2. Practising calligraphy always ______ (make) me feel better.【答案】________________________________________3. 单项选择:______ art in the West had a big influence on Xu Beihong. A. Study B. Studies C. Studying D. Studied【答案】________________________________________易错点4:while 表“对比”与表“时间”辨析❌ 错误:Traditional Chinese paintings are usually done with black and coloured ink, while many Western paintings often use more colourful oil paints.(误把 while 译成“当……时候”)✅ 正确:上句中 while 意为“而;然而”,连接两个并列分句表对比。表时间:While practising my calligraphy skills, I also learn more about Chinese characters.(当…… Traditional Chinese paintings are usually done with black and coloured ink, while many Western paintings often use more colourful oil paints. A. 当……时候 B. 而;然而(表对比)【答案】________________________________________2. While practising my calligraphy skills, I also learn more about Chinese characters. A. 当……时候 B. 而;然而(表对比)【答案】________________________________________3. 【答案】________________________________________易错点5:be famous for 与 be famous as 辨析❌ 错误:Su Shi was very famous as his poetry and prose.✅ 正确:Su Shi was very famous for his poetry and prose.(教材原句)【讲解】be famous for 后接“出名的原因/事物”(因…… Xu Beihong is famous as a great painter. He is famous for his paintings of horses. Su Shi was very famous as his poetry and prose.【答案】________________________________________2. 用 for / as 填空:Xu Beihong is famous ______ a great painter.
