      The Cst f Space Junk
Space explratin has brught humans great achievements, frm landing n the mn t sending rvers t Mars, but it has als left a wrrying legacy (遗留问题) — space junk. These are man-made bjects in rbit that n lnger serve a useful purpse: ld satellites, rcket stages and tiny pieces f debris (碎片) frm cllisins (碰撞) r explsins. Tday, there are millins f such items rbiting Earth, and they are becming a danger t active satellites and manned space flights.
The prblem is nt new. As early as the 1970s, scientists warned that space culd becme full f waste if n actin was taken. Yet fr decades, cuntries and private cmpanies treated space as a free and uncntrlled dump (垃圾场). Launching satellites was seen as a symbl f technlgical prgress and natinal pride, with little thught given t the lng-term csts f leaving debris behind. Nw, the bad result f this shrt-sightedness is appearing.
A single cllisin between tw large pieces f junk culd create thusands f new small pieces, starting a dangerus chain reactin called the Kessler Syndrme. This wuld sn make imprtant rbits unusable, breaking glbal cmmunicatins, weather frecasting, and essential GPS systems that peple use every day. The ecnmic lss wuld be big — trillins (万亿) f dllars, accrding t sme guesses, affecting industries frm transprtatin t agriculture. Wrse, it culd endanger future space missins, including thse aimed at explring ther planets and even building human hmes beynd Earth.
Scientists have suggested many ways t slve this crisis-using large nets r pwerful lasers (激光) t catch and remve small debris, while thers are develping reusable spacecraft designed t cllect ld satellites. There are als calls fr strict internatinal rules t make satellite peratrs clean up their ld machines after they stp wrking. But these effrts cst much mney and require full glbal cperatin. Many cuntries are unwilling t pay fr cleanup when they cntinue t benefit frm the free use f space.
This leads t a deeper questin: What is the true value f space? Is it a limitless resurce fr shrt-term use, r a shared glbal heritage that must be prtected fr future generatins? As private cmpanies hurry t launch large grups f new satellites, the need fr ethical (道德的) and sustainable explratin is mre imprtant than ever. We must balance tday’s dreams with the needs f tmrrw, ensuring that space remains accessible fr all humanity in the future.
32.What can we learn abut space junk?

B.It refers t man-made bjects n lnger useful in space.
C.It des little harm t wrking satellites.
D.It has existed in space fr nly a shrt time.
33.Why did space junk becme a serius prblem?
A.Space was treated as a free dump withut rules.
      B.Launching satellites was t expensive.
C.Scientists failed t predict the risk.
D.Private cmpanies prduced t many satellites.
34.What is the authr’s attitude tward space explratin?
A.Critical f all private space prjects.
      B.Cncerned abut sustainability and ethics.
      C.Optimistic abut future slutins.
      D.Dubtful abut internatinal cperatin.
35.What is the best title fr the text?
A.The Future f Manned Space Flight
B.Slutins t the Space Debris Crisis
      C.Space Junk: A Hidden Cst f Explratin
      D.The Value f Internatinal Cperatin
