In spring, sme peple wear light T-shirts while thers are in heavy dwn cats (羽绒服). It seems that peple feel different temperatures n the same day. Why des this happen?
In fact, peple dn’t feel air temperatures directly. It is thrugh the sensrs (传感器) n ur skin that we can feel cld, cl, warm, and ht temperatures. They help us decide whether t wear mre r fewer clthes.
When ur bdies are the same size, hw much bdy fat we have may be different and it will influence hw we feel temperatures. The mre bdy fat ne has, the warmer he r she feels. This is because the fat under the skin helps keep heat. Fr example, ld peple ften feel clder than yung peple as the fat layers (层) under the skin get thinner with age.
Surprisingly, anther reasn is height. We need bld t mve arund ur bdies t keep us warm. Since mst peple’s hearts are abut the same size, it takes mre time and energy fr the bld t mve arund in taller peple. S taller peple might feel clder.
Metablism (新陈代谢) als influences hw we feel temperatures. It shws hw fast ur bdies use energy. Peple with a higher metablism always feel htter than thers. This is because they prduce mre heat and may take mre time t cl dwn. Fr example, peple with mre muscles (肌肉) ften feel warmer.

As an English speaker, I first learned Chinese thrugh the use f pinyin. But as I fund ut, even when the letters in pinyin are the same, different tnes can result in different Chinese wrds, like hrse (马) vs mther (妈). But things get harder when this is used in tngue twisters! Can yu say this ne? Furteen is furteen, frty is frty; furteen is nt frty, frty is nt furteen.
Practicing Chinese with friendsSince I came t China in 2021, I’ve been using an APP called Hell Chinese. Reading the small stries n there is really helpful. I first read them with pinyin and the Chinese characters, and then I’ll read them again with just the characters.
