I’m Kay. I was the kind f child wh culdn’t just accept that smething wrked. I wuld take apart everyday stuff, nt t destry it, but t understand why it wrked the way it did. This desire t questin, reimagine, and imprve became the fundatin f everything I’ve dne since.
That same curisity fllwed me int academia. During my PhD jurney, I desired t strengthen medicatin adherence (遵循) amng peple living with serius infectius diseases (传染病) in develping cuntries. Hwever, the challenge was cntextual, cultural, psychlgical, and systemic. Cntrary t the traditinal apprach f trying t fix the patient t imprve adherence, I turned my attentin t the cmmunicatins that the patients were having with their healthcare prviders.
That idea led me t mtivatinal interviewing (MI), a persn-centred technique based n pen dialgue, understanding, and cperatin t drive behaviral change. On the surface, it seemed prmising. But I quickly realized it wasn’t a plug-and-play slutin. As I was wrking in a develping cuntry with entirely different cultural dynamics, it became clear that ideas like persnal chices and pen emtinal expressin didn’t quite translate in the same way. Thus, I had t adapt the apprach t fit the cntext and emply the adapted versin t train dctrs.
Essentially, I spent time understanding the lcal values, hw peple cmmunicate, what trust lks like, and hw authrity was understd. I rewrked the methd — nt t water it dwn, but t make it fit. The results were pwerful. Patients became mre invlved, mre cnfident, and surprisingly, the trained dctrs started emplying the apprach in ther clinical cntexts such as patients with diabetes (糖尿病) and high bld pressure.
This was a defining mment. It shwed me that true innvatin isn’t just abut inventin — it’s abut translatin, adaptatin, and understanding. It’s abut meeting peple where they are and helping them get t where they need t be.
      24. What can we learn abut Kay frm the first paragraph?
      A. She was fnd f wrking. B. She enjyed finding prblems.
      C. She had an inquiring mind.D. She lnged t be a dctr.
      25. Why des the authr mentin “a plug-and-play slutin” in Paragraph 3?
      A. T shw the methd was easy t use.B. T suggest cultural differences mattered.
      C. T stress the need fr dctr training.D. T explain why she adapted the methd.
      26. What was Kay’s cntributin t MI?
      A. She reinvented its cre.B. She prmted its brader uses.
      C. She simplified its rules.D. She prved MI failed in sme cultures.
      27. What des Kay’s experience shw?
      A. One size desn’t fit all.B. Actins speak luder than wrds.
      C. Practice makes perfect.D. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
