13、All the time yu spent memrizing multiplicatin tables(乘法表)may have made yu a better mathematician, accrding t a new study. A team f scientists frm Stanfrd University, in Califrnia, have shwn hw the brain rerganizes itself as kids learn math.
After a certain amunt f time spent practicing math, kids can put away the calculatr(计算器). They dn’t even need t cunt n their fingers. They simply knw the answers t subtractin(−), additin (+), and multiplicatin (×) facts. The quicker kids can recall basic math facts, the easier it is fr them t slve mre difficult math prblems.
The Stanfrd University researchers bserved(观察)the brain activity f 28 students, ages 7 t 4, fr the study. They tk scans f the students’ brains as the students slved math calculatins withut the help f a calculatr, pen r paper. A calculatin—three plus fur equals seven, fr example—flashed n a screen. The students pushed a buttn t say if the answer was right r wrng. The scientists als recrded the respnse speed, and what parts f the brain became active as the kids pushed the buttn.
These bservatins shwed a prcess called_______. Rather than using their fingers t cunt, r scrawling ut equatins(列算式)n a piece f paper, the students pulled the answers frm memry. It’s as if the answers t basic subtractin, additin, and multiplicatin prblems are kept in a lng-term strage part in the brain. The strage part was built frm repetitin. “Experience really des matter,” said Dr. Kathy Mann Kepeke f the Natinal Institutes f Health.
Children make the changefrm cunting t fact retrieval when they are 8 t 4 years ld, the study says. This is the time when mst students are learning basic additin and subtractin. When kids have basic math facts memrized, the brain has mre free space t learn mre difficult math.
This prcess has benefits fr the future. The study shwed, as kids gt lder, their answers relied mre n memry and became quicker and mre crrect. Less brain activity was invlved in cunting. Sme children make this change quicker than thers.
Scientists hpe t use this research t develp new strategies(策略)t help kids learn math at all levels. One strategy the study suggests is fr students t test themselves in different rders—slving five times three befre five times tw, fr example. Mixing up the rder keeps the brain active. Keep these trainings up, and yu may be a math whiz in n time.

3.What can we knw frm the study?
A.Kids need t practice using calculatrs t keep their brains active.
B.Math learners shuld change t cunting practice at the age f 8 t 4.
C.Training by mixing up the rder f multiplicatin tables can help learn math better.
D.Less brain activity may be invlved in slving difficult prblems when kids get lder.
5.What is the best title f the passage?
A.Math frm Memry
B.Strategy Develpment
C.Brain Rerganizatin
