A survey f reading habits shws adult Chinese read 7.78 bks a year n average(平均), and children and teenagers under 17 read 8.81 bks, accrding t survey results released n Wednesday in Beijing. This year’s survey, the 15th editin, was cnducted and released by Chinese Academy f Press and Publicatin starting in 1999. The survey fcused n the data in 2017.
“Cmpared with 2016, grwth was stable,” said Xu Shenggu, a member f the academy’s research team. “We see it is the result f gvernment effrts. It als shws the reading platfrms are different. Besides bks in print, there are e-bks n cmputers, smartphnes and kindles.”
Xu said althugh the number is still rising, the average f bks Chinese peple read are utnumbered by Japan with 11, Suth Krea with 9, France with 8 and the United States with 7.
The survey fund 67.5 percent f urban residents(城市居民)had a habit f reading bks in 2017, while 49.3 rural residents(农村居民)did. In recent years, digital reading has grwn in the cuntryside.
73 percent f adult Chinese read digitally, including nline, mbile, digital readers and smart phnes, cmpared t 68.2 percent in 2016.
