22.(8分)On 14 September 2015, the universe’s gravitatinal waves bserved fr the very first time. The waves, which were predicted by Albert Einstein a hundred years ag, came frm a cllisin between tw black hles. It tk 1.3 billin years fr the waves t arrive at the LIGO detectr in the USA.
The signal was extremely weak when it reached Earth, but is already prmising a revlutin in astrphysics. Gravitatinal waves are an entirely new way f bserving the mst vilent events in space and testing the limits f ur knwledge.
LIGO, the Laster Interfermeter Gravitatinal-Wave Observatry, is a cllabrative prject with ver ne thusand researchers frm mre than twenty cuntries. Tgether, they have realized a visin that is almst fifty years ld. The 2017 Nbel winners have, with their enthusiasm and determinatin, each been invaluable t the success f LIGO. Pineers Rainer Weiss and Kip S. Thrne, tgether with Barry C.Barish, the scientist and leader wh brught the prject t cmpletin, ensured that fur decades f effrt led t gravitatinal waves finally being bserved.
In the mid-1970s, Rainer Weiss had already analysed pssible surces f backgrund nise that wuld disturb measurements, and had als designed a detectr, a laser-based interfermeter, which wuld vercme this nise. Early n, bth Kip Thrne and Rainer Weiss were firmly cnvinced that gravitatinal waves culd be detected and bring abut a revlutin in ur knwledge f the universe.
Gravitatinal waves spread at the speed f light, filling the universe, as Albert Einstein described in his general thery f relativity. They are always created when a mass accelerates, like when a ice-skater piruettes r a pair f black hles revlve arund each ther. Einstein was cnvinced it wuld never be pssible t measure them. The LIGO prject’s achievement was using a pair f gigantic laser interfermeters t measure a change thusands f times smaller than an atmic nucleus, as the gravitatinal wave passed the Earth.
S far all srts f electrmagnetic radiatin and particles, such as csmic rays r neutrins, have been used t explre the universe. Hwever, gravitatinal waves are direct testimny(Hwever, gravitatinal waves are direct testimny(证词)t disruptins in spacetime itself. This is smething cmpletely new and different, pening up unseen wrlds. A wealth f discveries awaits thse wh succeed in capturing the waves and interpreting their message.

B.The capture f gravitatinal waves will pen a new ear in astrphysics
C.There was n way f bserving the space events years ag
D.Mre than 20 cuntries have LIGO detectrs
2、Why culd gravitatinal waves be successfully bserved?
A.Because the scientists ttally trust Einstein’s general thery f relativity
B.Because they can be easily detected as they fill the universe
C.Because scientists like Barry C.Barish wrked hard n this fr lng
D.Because huge change appeared as the waves passed the earth

23.(8分)Playing a musical instrument thrughut: yur life prtects yur hearing in ld age, a Canadian study suggests. The study, published in Psychlgy and Aging, carried ut hearing tests n 74 adult musicians and 89 nn-musicians. It fund a 70-year-ld musician’s hearing was as gd as that f a 50-year-ld wh did nt play.
Hearing nrmally declines as peple age. By 60, 10-30% f peple have mderate hearing lss. By 80, that ges up t as many as 60%. Prblems are particularly seen in the central auditry (听觉的) prcessing system, which is assciated with understanding speech, especially when there is backgrund nise.
Previus studies have shwn musicians have better hearing than nn-players. But this research, by a team at the Rtman Research Institute in Trnt, lked at adults f all ages - frm 18 t 91 - t see hw peple were affected as they aged. They carried ut hearing tests n 74 amateur and prfessinal musicians (wh had played since the age f 16, were still practising and had been given frmal music lessns) and 89 nn-musicians (wh had never played an instrument). Musicians were significantly better at picking ut speech against nise.
The researchers suggest that lifelng musicianship reduces age-related changes in the brain, prbably due t musicians using their auditry systems at a high level n a regular basis.
The head f bimedical research at Actin n Hearing Lss, Dr Ralph Hlme, said: “While this study suggests that musicians might be mre able t cpe with the cnsequences f hearing lss, it is far better t reduce damage in the first place by using apprpriate ear prtectin. We have always campaingned fr everyne wh plays a musical instrument r listens t lud music t wear hearing prtectin, like earplugs, which reduce the risk f damaging yur hearing permanently.”
1、What can we learn frm Paragraph 2?
A.A persn aged 80 will lse 30% hearing.
B.A persn aged abve 60 must have bad hearing.
C.Peple have fewer prblems with backgrund nise.
D.Peple’s hearing usually becmes wrse when they get lder.
2、What can we get frm the Canadian study?
A.It tested the hearing f 162 peple.
B.The finding f the study wasn’t published publicly.
C.Playing a musical instrument may d gd t hearing.
D.Musicians were as gd at picking ut speech against nise as nn-musicians.
3、Why dn’t musicians change much in their brain as they age?
A.They like t take mre exercise.
B.They use their hearing mre and regularly.
C.They dn’t expse themselves t backgrund nise.
D.They pay mre attentin t prtecting their hearing.
4、Hw can we deal with hearing lss accrding t Dr Ralph Hlme?
A.Get help frm musicians.
B.Listen t lud music less.
C.Prtect hearing prperly.

25.(10分) Indian scientists have designed a new device which they hpe will slve ne f the biggest prblems with the use f slar energy. They call the device a slar tree. Slar trees have metal " branches" extending frm a tall , central ple at different levels. Each branch hlds a phtvltaic (光电的) panel, als called a slar panel. These panels are flat surfaces that cllect energy frm the sun and turn it int electricity.
Daljit Singh Bedi is the chief scientist at the Cuncil f Scientific and Industrial Research, r CSIR , in New Delhi, India. The CSIR labratries are where the slar tree was designed. Bedi says the shape f the slar tree makes it pssible t fit mre phtvltaic panels in a space than traditinal systems d. "It takes abut 4 square meters f space t prduce energy which therwise wuld have required 400 square meters f space," he says.
Scientists believe the energy a slar tree cllects will be enugh t pwer five hmes. The slar trees will make it easier t prvide slar energy fr hmes in cities, they say. The slar trees will als take less space frm farmers in rural areas. And they will cllect mre energy than nrmal phtvltaic panels n the tps f buildings, because their design helps with placement f slar panels in a way that they are expsed mre t the sun.
India is the wrld ' s third largest prducer f greenhuse gases. The cuntry has prmised t reduce its rate f greenhuse gas prductin.
