At 24, Carina Hng funded an AI cmpany called Axim Math. With its unique technical ideas and clear
develpment gals, the cmpany has changed traditinal views in the Silicn Valley investment capital circle.
Brn in Guangzhu in 2001, Hng came frm a family where neither parent had received higher educatin.
She grew up like ther kids, and shwed n special talent until she started learning Olympiad mathematics in junir
high schl — this unlcked her ptential and surprised everyne.
In high schl, Hng was selected int Guangdng Prvincial Olympiad Mathematics Team, and in 2018, she
entered the Massachusetts Institute f Technlgy (MIT) with excellent results. She duble-majred in Maths and
Physics, cmpleted ver 20 advanced curses, and served as president f student rganisatins t help internatinal
students. Later, she wn the Rhdes Schlarship t study Neurscience at Oxfrd, then pursued tw dctral
degrees at Stanfrd while ffering legal aid t lw-incme peple.
During this perid, Hng fcused n the cmbinatin f AI and mathematics. Nticing AI’s big shrtcmings
in mathematical reasning, she funded Axim Math, whse cre idea is t transfrm English mathematical

t develp a real “AI Mathematician” with lgical reasning ability, and Hng even hpes that “AI mathematicians”
will put frward brand-new mathematical cnjectures (猜想) in the future. With her gd academic reputatin and
clear technical gals, she attracted many tp talents t Axim Math. A famus mathematician even left his
permanent teaching psitin t jin the team, and they wrked tgether t build a strict lgical reasning training
system by adpting a new mdel.
Carina Hng’s stry is ne f visin and cmmitment. Built n slid academic training and driven by a clear
gal — t give AI true mathematical reasning ability — she is leading Axim Math tward a future where
machines and mathematicians wrk side by side
      24. What awakened Carina Hng’s ptential in her yuth?
      A. Her parents’ educatinal backgrund. B. Learning Olympiad maths.

Have yu ever thught, “Maybe this is all I’m ever meant t be?” Many f us are trapped by labels like “nt
talented enugh” — as if life were a ne-way rad with n turns. Barbara Oakley’s Mindshift wrks like a wise
      第 6页/共 14页
guide, helping us remve these mental blcks. It desn’t ffer empty encuragement, but breaks dwn the science
      behind change.
The first part f the bk tells stries f rdinary peple wh dared t reshape their lives. Graham Keir, a
musician, nce believed he had “n brain fr science” and tday walks the halls f medical schl. Or Ali, wh
nce struggled with basic maths, nly t later master cding (编程) and earn multiple prmtins. These are nt
tales f sudden genius, but f imperfect practice thrugh setbacks and slw prgress. Oakley intrduces a pwerful
cncept — secnd-skilling. In tday’s fast-changing wrld, relying n just ne area f expertise is risky.
Develping a secnd skill can make yu mre adaptable.
If the first part helps us see what’s pssible, the secnd is a guide fr making it happen. Oakley draws n
interviews with dzens f career changers t shw what strategies wrked and what pitfalls t avid. Beynd
learning frm thers, the bk’s secnd part ffers hnest advice fr quieting self-dubt and turning learning frm
a chre int a habit. One f the bk’s mst valuable insights is that what matters is nt “intense practice every day”
, but “practise every day, withut fail”. Even fifteen minutes daily sends steady signals that quietly reshape yur
      brain.
That said, the bk’s perspective isn’t universal. Rted in a Western cntext, it draws largely n stable
prfessinals — leaving quieter questins abut thse facing real hardship. And while it priritises practice ver
passin, sme may find this apprach cl t the tuch.
Yet perhaps that clness is its strength: it desn’t sell miracles, but ffers a slid framewrk. After reading,
yu may nt have all the answers. But yu might ask: “Culd what I nce thught impssible actually be within
      reach?”
Ultimately, Mindshift gives smething better: a mind pen and flexible, ready fr change. And that, perhaps, is
      the truest mindshift f all.
      28. What can we learn abut Mindshift frm paragraph 1?
      A. It describes life as a fixed path.
      B. It emphasises the imprtance f talent.
      C. It helps vercme inner bstacle fr change.
      D. It prvides readers with emtinal cmfrt.
      29. What d the examples f Graham and Ali mainly shw?
      A. The value f secnd-skilling. B. The pwer f sudden genius.
      C. The imprtance f passin. D. The risk f changing careers.

      30. What des the underlined wrd “pitfalls” in paragraph 3 prbably mean?
      A. Cmplicated skills. B. Hidden traps. C. Strng biases. D. Imagined threats.
      31. What is the authr’s verall attitude twards Mindshift?
      A. Cautiusly ppsed. B. Appreciative yet critical.
      C. Highly favurable. D. Imagined threats.

In the glbal effrt t fight climate change, scientists are explring slutins in unexpected places —
including the sil beneath ur feet. A recent study published in Nature highlights a prmising discvery: specific
bacteria that can dramatically reduce agricultural emissins f nitrus xide (N2O), a pwerful greenhuse gas.
Nitrus xide, largely released frm farm fields due t nitrgen fertiliser (肥 料 ) use, is a majr climate
cncern. Accrding t c-authr Prfessr Lars Bakken f the Nrwegian University f Life Sciences, the gas is
265 times mre effective at warming the atmsphere than carbn dixide and can remain in the air fr ver a
      century.
T develp the slutin, researchers grew the bacteria using rganic waste. Building n past wrk, they lked
fr a micrrganism that wuld reduce nitrus xide emissins withut staying in the sil fr s lng that it harmed
ther life frms imprtant fr crp health. The bacteria reduced emissins after a secnd fertiliser treatment by
abut half tw weeks later. After three mnths, the makeup f micrbial (微 生 物 的 ) life was unchanged,
suggesting the bacteria wuld nt harm the sil.
The bacteria, which are nt genetically mdified, ccur naturally in anaerbic digesters — facilities that
transfrm rganic waste int bifuels. That might ease acceptance f their use, said Paul Carini f the University f
Arizna, wh was nt invlved in the research. Mrever, Bakken stated that this “pens up a number f new
pssibilities” fr managing farmland. The bacteria culd be added t fertilisers, ffering a ptential direct
applicatin fr farmers. As Carini nted, using a waste prduct frm ne industrial prcess t benefit anther is
      cst-effective.
Hwever, significant challenges remain befre widespread use. Prfessr Lri Hagland f Purdue University,
an expert in the field, nted that sils vary glbally, requiring mre field testing t ensure effectiveness. Mre
critically, farmers currently get n financial mtivatin t adpt such methds. Bakken argued that authrities must
create plicies t make emissin reductins prfitable. If these limitatins can be addressed, this bacterial treatment
culd have a majr impact n reducing agriculture’s cntributin t climate change.
      32. Why is nitrus xide a majr climate cncern?
      第 8页/共 14页
      A. It is released in larger amunts than CO2.
      B. It stays in the atmsphere fr a very shrt time.
      C. It cmes mainly frm industrial prductin.
      D. It has a much strnger warming effect than CO2.
      33. What did the researchers find?
      A. A way t help farmers increase fertiliser use.
      B. A bacterium that stays in the sil frever.
      C. A methd t prduce mre bifuels frm waste.
      D. A micrbe that cuts N2O withut harming sil.
      34. Which aspect f the bacteria is mainly discussed in paragraph 4?
      A. Its ptential benefits. B. Its wrking principle.
      C. Its prducing prcess. D. Its research value.
      35. What prevents the applicatin f the finding?
      A. Shrtage f necessary bacteria.
      B. Difficulty in large-scale testing.
      C. Lack f ecnmic benefit fr farmers.
      D. Uncertainty abut its effect.
