The by stared in amazement, frgetting his knee pain as his father explained the phenmenn.
Peple call this an “ech,” but it is mre than a natural sund — it reflects life itself. Life always gives back

Artificial intelligence (AI) and autmatin are rapidly transfrming Finland’s wrkplaces, replacing bth
manual and expert-level tasks while bsting prductivity, accrding t a survey released Wednesday by the
Finland Chamber f Cmmerce. The survey, cnducted between Aug. 18 and 22, 2025, cvered 1,035 cmpanies
      frm varius sectrs acrss Finland.
The survey fund that 22 percent f cmpanies have experienced a decline in manual labr due t AI, while
10 percent reprted a reductin in expert wrk, a sharp increase frm last year’s figures f 15 percent and 5 percent,
respectively. Despite the changes, the Chamber said AI-driven efficiency is als creating new ways f wrking and
      new types f rles.
The impact f AI and autmatin is mst prnunced in large enterprises, the survey shwed. Tw-thirds f
cmpanies with mre than 250 emplyees said prductivity had imprved, while half reprted a reductin in
      administrative wrklads.
Suvi Pulkkinen, senir advisr at the Finland Chamber f Cmmerce, cmmented n these changes: “These
changes are largely psitive, enhancing prductivity and freeing up human capital. But they als present challenges
at a time f high unemplyment and declining skills levels.”
Pulkkinen emphasized that jbseekers must be given pprtunities t imprve their skills t keep pace with
rapid technlgical change. While many cmpanies ffer internal training prgrams, 54 percent f respndents said
Finland’s educatin system fails t prduce enugh future-ready talent. She called fr a strnger fcus n
fundatinal skills and mre flexible lifelng learning, including shrt, targeted training prgrams aligned with
      wrkplace needs.
Finally, Pulkkinen pinted ut that Finland has “a majr pprtunity fr prductivity grwth” thrugh
technlgy, but warned that this can nly be realized “if human skills evlve alngside it.”
      28. What happened t the percentage f reduced expert wrk frm 2024 t 2025?
      A. It dubled. B. It peaked. C. It declined. D. It hit bttm.

A grup f researchers has cnstructed guan indices (粪便指数) f emperr penguins t reveal the changes
in the species’ breeding habitats ver the past 11 years. Fr every ne degree Celsius rise in temperature, emperr
penguins shift their breeding site an average f 73 meters further, while each additinal centimeter f snwfall adds
anther 66 meters t the mve, accrding t the researchers.
Emperr penguins serve as early-warning indicatrs fr the Antarctic ecsystem and climate change, and
understanding hw climate change influences their habitat use prvides insights int the delicate plar ecsystem,
supprting climate actins under the United Natins Sustainable Develpment Gals (SDGs).
Hwever, it remains unclear hw the gradual climate change and extreme climatic events affect the spread f
emperr penguin breeding habitats due t the shrtage f systematic and lng-term recrds dcumenting their
      habitat use.
Researchers frm Sun Yat-sen University and the University f Mntana develped guan indices. They
presented an autmated apprach t mapping emperr penguin breeding habitats frm 2013 t 2023 at a 30-meter
spatial reslutin using Earth bservatin satellite imagery.
“Our findings shwed that, under the pressure f climate change, emperr penguins are nw having t relcate
their breeding grunds frequently,” said Lin Hng, the paper’s first authr and a PhD student f Sun Yat-sen
University. “Unlike mst birds, emperr penguins cannt fly, nr d they build nests,” said Lin. “Instead, they rely
      n a stable sea-ice surface t breed.”
The study fund that sme emperr penguins are cmparatively frtunate because their breeding sites are
sheltered by nearby islands, twering ice cliffs, r grunded icebergs, and they are within easy reach f pen waters
rich in hunting targets. In these lcatins, the penguins rarely change their breeding sites, which are ften reused fr
up t seven years. Yet where n such prtective barriers exist, emperr penguins’ ice hmes are far mre vulnerable
(脆弱的) t break-up, highlighting that climate change, castal tpgraphy (地形, 地貌), and availability f
hunting targets all interact t shape emperr-penguin survival.
      32. Hw d researchers use the guan indices f emperr penguins?
      A. T study their ppulatin trends. B. T recrd their hunting adjustments.
      C. T track their breeding habitat shifts. D. T measure their mvement distance.
      33. What limited the understanding f climate change’s impact n penguin habitats?
      A. Lack f cnsistent data. B. Limited use f technlgy.
      C. Extreme plar climatic events. D. Frequent relcatin f penguins.
      34. Why d sme emperr penguins keep their breeding sites unchanged?
      A. They can build strnger nests. B. They are less sensitive t warming.
      C. Their habitats prvide enugh fd. D. Their habitats are naturally sheltered.
      35. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
      A. Climate Threats t Antarctic Wildlife B. Secrets f Emperr Penguin Breeding Sites
      C. Guan Indices as a Windw t Penguin Habitats D. Penguins Are Nature’s Climate Change Messengers

Le, a high schl senir, was assigned t a cmmunity service prject: teaching the elderly hw t use
smartphnes. While his classmates were matched with willing learners, Le was arranged t help Mr. Hendersn, a
retired carpenter (木匠) wh usually kept t himself.
Their first meeting was far frm pleasant. Mr. Hendersn sat in his dark living rm, surrunded by delicate
wden clcks and birdhuses. When Le shwed him hw t use his wn smartphne, the ld man shk his head.
“These devices are cld and sulless,” he cmplained, his vice thick with discntent. “They’ve replaced real
letters and warm handshakes. Why shuld I truble myself with a piece f glass that nly pushes peple further
      apart?”
Le tried t explain the cnvenience f vide calls and instant messaging, but Mr. Hendersn shwed n
interest. T him, technlgy was a barrier, nt a bridge. Instead f arguing, Le chse t sit patiently and watch him
      wrk.
As they sat tgether in silence nw and then, they started t have ccasinal chats — abut carpentry, abut
the ld days, and it was thrugh these casual, brken cnversatins that Le gradually learned the truth abut the
ld man. His sn had lived thusands f miles away fr years, and their cmmunicatin was limited t rare, brief
phne calls. N wnder he refused t accept anything cnnected with mdern technlgy — he was lnely.
One afternn, Le nticed a newly finished wden pht frame n the wrkbench. It was breathtakingly
beautiful, carved with leaves. “This is incredible, Mr. Hendersn,” Le whispered in genuine admiratin. Mr.
Hendersn’s face sftened fr a secnd. “My sn used t lve my crafts,” he sighed. “But he hasn’t seen anything I’
ve made in mnths. He’s t busy fr an ld man’s hbbies.”

Le lked at the phne, and a thught ccurred t him.
Mr. Hendersn finally tapped the “Send” buttn n the screen.
