Accrding t Dr. Giuseppe Aragna, an nline dctr, caffeine dependence isn’t sustainable (可持续的). “Imagine yur bdy like yur finances. Running it n caffeine is the same as surviving thrugh credit cards,” he said. “Eventually, the bank (yur bdy in this case) will want t cash-in, and this makes it much mre likely fr yu t becme tired, lse fcus, and-by the end f the day want t achieve nthing.”
S I decided t remve all caffeinated drinks frm my life fr tw weeks, n matter hw awful it felt. I started with three cups f lemn water in the mrning, had a decaffeinated sda in the afternn, and ended with a cup f tea. Thugh the effects, at first, were hardly the same, the act f getting up frm my desk t refill my cup made the day a bit mre bearable.
Dr. Aragna als tld me that kicking all the caffeine culd help me find a mre natural bdy rhythm (节律) and reduce my anxiety levels. But alng the way, he said I’d likely be sleepy. “Of curse, yu will still get tired, but this is natural, because all caffeine is ding is saving that fr later — and likely t a greater degree after yu frce yur bdy int verdrive,” he added.
The first three days were awful. I felt extremely tired, had really terrible headaches, and culd barely make it t 10 a.m. withut wanting t take a nap. After abut a week, I felt like a different persn. By the end f the tw weeks, I felt a lt mre in cntrl f my mind, bdy, and life. And I didn’t miss caffeine as much as I thught I wuld.

Electrificatin is a given fr the car industry, at least accrding t the Vlkswagen Grup. The German carmaker frecasts 70 percent f the cars sld in Eurpe will be pwered purely by batteries by 2030.
“Cmbustin engines (内燃机) will die,” says Michael Jst, frmer head f the Vlkswagen Grup. Jst, wh is in charge f the carmaker’s critical mve twards electricity, turns his attentin t the waterfrnt. “After smart electric cars will cme smart electric bats,” he predicts
Hwever, t mst US baters, electric bats remain a nnstarter. Beynd having t g slw t cnserve juice — which seems utright un-American t many baters — mst are afraid f getting stuck ffshre with n assistance fr miles. A few US builders nw have electric designs, but they tend t be small ships fr wakesurfing bats designed fr a pre-ffice wrkut, and then ging back t be recharged fr anther run.
Of curse, there are bvius differences in the carmaking and shipbuilding industries. The VW Grup makes 44,000 cars per day, while SILENT-YACHTS builds a dzen r s bats each year. Nevertheless, the electricity algrithms (算法) f the tw prducts are similar. “We’ve already planned t adpt cmmn technlgies in the prduct develpment,” says Michael Köhler, funder f SILENT-YACHTS. “We’ll shrtly lk fr sftware and partners in the autmtive industries wh can help drive new technlgies frward.”
There will be a generatinal shift in the shipbuilding industry. “We lked at the electricity refrm taking place n land and in the air and wndered why the sea sectr was s far behind,” said engineer Re Baird. “That revlutin is still years away. Yet in the last tw years, new electric builders have cntinued t appear and ther even mre advanced alternative battery slutins have recently cme.”
Just having an electric bat is nt enugh. Success will cme dwn t the value f the brand and the kind f lyalty it develps amng cnsumers as the market fr electric bats expands.

Yu’re rushing t wrk and a man ahead f yu falls dwn. D yu stp t help? In a study f by-standers, it was fund that sme peple lk away r keep n walking rather than stp and get invlved.
“Peple tend t decide that n actin is needed.” says Ervin Staub, a psychlgist 心理学家 at the University f Massachusetts at Amherst. “The first thughts like “Why shuld I be the ne t help?” ften keep yu frm ffering help.

Anther ne is knwn as “the bystander effect”. This says that the mre peple there are bserving an emergency, the less respnsible each ne f them persnally feels. Fr example, if yu are the nly persn in the wrld wh can act t save smene in a dangerus situatin, yu are mre likely t act. Hwever, if yu are ne f 100,000 peple wh culd save the situatin, yu wuld be happier if ne f the ther 99,999 peple did it!
“If yu ntice truble, frce yurself t stp and judge the situatin instead f walking n,” says Ervin Staub. Then try t invlve ther peple, yu dn’t have t take n all the respnsibility f being helpful. Accrding t Staub, it is smetimes just a matter f turning t the persn next t yu and saying, “‘It lks like we shuld d smething. “Once yu take actin, mst peple will take their cues (提示) frm yu and als help.
      12. What may cause sme peple’s failure t help accrding t the study?
      A. They dn’t knw hw t help.
      B. They think it’s nne f their business.
      C. They fear their help may be rejected.
      D. They expect thers t act.
      13. What des the underlined wrd “ambiguus’ in paragraph 4 mean?
      A. Difficult.B. Dangerus.C. Unclear.D. Unpleasant.
      14. What des “the bystander effect” shw?
      A. The majrity f peple have the same idea.
      B. Mre peple, less respnsibility
      C. Many hands make light wrk.
      D. Peple usually think twice befre they act.
      15. What can be the best title fr the text?
      A. Stick t Yur Decisin
      B. Dn’t Just Stand There
      C. It’s the Thught That Cunts
      D. T Help r Nt, it’s a Questin
