When intrducing literature t a new class, I ask them a questin: “Why d we study it?” It’s nt a smth ride, but we finally get the answer. Thrugh literature, we can visit cultures impssible fr us t experience urselves and understand what it
must have been like t live in a particular time and in different parts f the wrld. But the best bit is that we can d all this while cultivating thse h-s-necessary
critical-thinking skills.
In an era when the cmmn aim f educatin is t prepare students fr a rapidly changing wrld, the rle f literature in equipping them fr the future has never been mre vital. Frm the linguistic perspective, studying classic literature affrds students the pprtunity t understand, analyse, and evaluate language quite different frm
their wn. Structures, trends in punctuatin and the way we speak have evlved
thrugh the ages and being aware f these develpments really helps us t understand better language in its current cntext. If we didn’t read and study texts frm the past, and nly lked t the best seller list, hw wuld we knw f this evlutin?
There are mre benefits t the study f literature. Understanding the past des prevent us frm repeating the mistakes f ur predecessrs but, mre than that, it
helps us appreciate hw attitudes have changed ver time. This, in turn, prmtes a deeper understanding f why we are wh we are tday.
While we must safeguard the teaching f classic literature, we shuld als be
pen t the idea that mre cntemprary texts have a place in the curriculum t. Any text, if taught well, will engage n sme level r anther.
A few years ag I received a thank-yu card frm a student. It read: “Thank yu fr intrducing me t beautiful literature — I have learned s much frm it.” And that glden mment is enugh t cnvince me that great literature, frm any time, is
smething that all ur yung peple shuld be entitled t.
24 .What can we infer frm the underlined sentence in paragraph 1?
A .The answer is far frm satisfactry.
B .Students shw n interest in the questin.
C .Literature study is never easy fr students.
D .It takes effrts t find the value f literature.
25.What des the authr try t explain by mentining the best seller list in paragraph 2?
A .The aim f educatin. B .The evlutin f language.
C.The necessity f literature study. D.The ppularity f cntemprary wrks.
26 .What is the authr’s attitude twards including cntemprary texts in the curriculum?
A .Cnservative. B .Apprving. C .Neutral. D .Dismissive.
27 .What can be a suitable title fr the text?
A .Classic literature deserves a place in tday’s class
B .Literary educatin bridges the generatin gap
C .Classic reading: A jurney f self-discvery
D .Literary educatin: A much-needed refrm

In a textile recycling wrkshp in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Prvince, a prductin line nce requiring 30 wrkers t sweat fr eight hurs t prcess 15 tns f used
clthing nw perates with nly tw staff members. Behind this transfrmatin is an autmated textile srting system develped by Databeynd Technlgy.
This system integrates AI and hyperspectral (高光谱) imaging technlgy t identify the material and clr f waste textiles, precisely identify blend ratis, and autmatically srt ut cmpnents such as cttn and nyln. This technlgy was named ne f the Best Inventins f 2025 by Time magazine, making Databeynd Technlgy the nly Chinese hi-tech enterprise hnred in the recycling categry.
Hw des the AI-driven srter wrk? It functins like an intelligent srter with cllabrative “eyes, brains and hands”. The system’s “sharp eyes” utilize a visin
system with multiple sensrs. As materials mve alng a cnveyr belt (传送带) at 4 meters per secnd, the system — cmbining hyperspectral and laser sensrs —
captures the shape, clr and material characteristics in real time. Behind these eyes is an ever-evlving “smart brain”, serving as a massive spectral database. The
“dexterus hands” rely n a high-speed, precise system. A majr challenge was the lightweight nature f materials, which easily shift due t airflw at high speeds. T slve this, the team added a psitive pressure system abve the belt. The airflw
prduced by the system acts like an invisible, steady hand that keeps light, thin materials flat and stable.
As textile prductin relies heavily n resurces like cttn, recycling reduces the pressure n raw material extractin. Given that the textile industry is a majr
cnsumer f water and energy, recycling significantly reduces carbn emissins,
water pllutin and landfill vlume. Furthermre, because burning textiles generates greenhuse gases and placing them in landfills ccupies land, recycling serves t ease envirnmental pressure at the end-f-life stage. In this prcess, intelligent srters
serve as a big help.
Currently, Databeynd’s verseas market has expanded beynd Japan, Krea
and Sutheast Asian cuntries. The glbal demand fr this kind f intelligent
equipment is increasingly grwing. In the future, Databeynd will cntinue t deepen the integratin f AI and intelligent srting, expanding its technlgy t mre
recycling scenaris — such as waste plastics, film and cnstructin waste — accelerating the intelligent era fr the glbal recycling industry.
28 .Which f the fllwing best describes the traditinal way t recycle textiles?
A .Cst-effective. B .Time-efficient. C .Back-breaking. D .Labr-saving.
29 .Why was a psitive pressure system added t the srter?
A .T imprve the perfrmance f AI.
B .T capture clearer images in real time.
C .T make the cnveyr belt mve faster.
D .T prevent materials wrinkling r flating.
30 .What is paragraph 4 mainly abut?
A .Prductin challenges. B .Envirnmental benefits.
C .Technical drawbacks. D .Operating mechanism.
31 .What can we infer abut Databeynd frm the last paragraph?
A .It will fcus mre n verseas market.
B .It will encurage heavy reliance n AI.
C .It will dminate the glbal recycling industry.
D .It will apply its technlgy t mre waste types.
D
Discarded litter nt nly makes ur streets and neighbrhds lk untidy, but it can als pse a significant risk t wildlife. Hwever, a study published in the jurnal Animal Behaviur reprts that blue tits are lining their nests with cigarette butts,
which may prtect them frm parasitic (寄生的) infectins.
In the wild, blue tits, a small Eurpean bird, pick fragrant plants and bring them back t their nests because the smells help drive away bld-sucking parasites. In
cities, they are ding smething different, which is cllecting discarded cigarette
butts. Scientists frm Pland wndered whether it was just an adaptatin t the urban jungle r whether these butts acted as a chemical shield (保护).
T find ut, they studied 33 blue tit families and divided nests int three grups. The first was the cntrl grup, where nests were left natural, but researchers added
tw unsmked cigarette filters. In the secnd grup, researchers added tw smked cigarette filters t the nest t mimic what urban birds d. Fr the third grup, the
scientists remved the natural nest and replaced it with a lab-cleaned and germ-free nest.
After 13 days, these chicks were given health checks. Their wing lengths were
measured, and bld samples were cllected t check fr signs f illness. The result
was imprved physilgical cnditin and reduced parasite-related bld lss. When it came t cunting the bugs, there were mre parasites in the natural cntrl nests and hardly any in the artificial nests. In nests with smked cigarette filters, the number f blwfly larvae (丽蝇幼虫), which are usually present in nest material and feed n the bld f nestlings, appeared lwer, suggesting that nictine in the butts culd be
acting as an pesticide. “Our study indicates that cigarette butts may be used by urban blue tits as an pprtunistic adaptive strategy, mimicking the functin f fragrant
plant materials in parasite cntrl and ptentially cntributing psitively t nestling welfare” the researchers cmmented. While this is gd news, the team highlights a cncern. Butts als cntain txic chemical, and it’s unknwn whether they culd
affect birds’ health later in life.
32 .Why did the scientists frm Pland d the research?
A .T imprve blue tits’ habitats in cities.
B .T warn the public f the harm f cigarette butts.
C .T determine the rle f cigarette butts in blue tits’ nests.
D .T study hw t prtect blue tits frm parasitic infectins.
33 .What des the underlined wrd in paragraph 3 mean?
A .Imitate. B .Prhibit. C .Destry. D .Stimulate.
34 .What can be learned abut nictine in cigarette butts frm the study?
A .It affects blue tits’ wing length.
B .It des harm t the health f blue tits.
C .It helps reduce parasites in blue tits’ nests.
D .It changes the living habits f blwfly larvae.
35 .What may the fllw-up study fcus n?
A .Alternatives t fragrant plants.
B .Txic cmpnents in cigarette butts.
C .Mre habitable nests fr urban blue tits.
D .Lng-term effects f cigarette butts n blue tits.

W: When yu think f wmen in histry wh have been true pineers, the name Jane
Addams shuld cme t mind. In the late 1800s, she funded Hull Huse, an institutin called a
settlement huse, in Chicag, Illinis. Hull Huse was established as a resurce fr immigrants as well as fr any ther residents f Chicag in need f assistance. Its missin reflected the
cmpassinate spirit fits funder. Jane Addams had visited a similar institutin, called Tynbee Hall, while visiting Lndn, England. Thrughut her life, Jane Addams wrked real hard. She
was a skillful fundraiser, and when an ecnmic dwnturn ccurred, she acquired the funds
necessary t keep Hull Huse running. She accmplished this task by writing and lecturing acrss the cuntry. She cntinually used the mney she earned t imprve the lives f thers. Fund
raising, hwever, was certainly nt her mst ntewrthy accmplishment. Addams was als a
leader in the mvement t secure vting rights fr wmen. In 1931 she was hnred with ne f the mst imprtant awards in the wrld, the Nbel Peace Prize. This recgnitin was especially significant because Jane Addams was the first American wman ever t receive this prize. Jane Addams’s qualities will live n thrugh thers wh are inspired by her curage.

66 .Dear Chris,
I’m writing t explain the ancient Cnfucian qute yu’re curius abut. Rted in classic Chinese culture, it reveals the cre principle f learning frm The Analects.
It cnveys that learning and reflectin are inseparable. Simply absrbing knwledge
withut reflectin leaves yu cnfused, while blind thinking withut slid learning leads t fruitless risks.
As a senir three student, I deeply value this philsphy. I always reflect n what I’ve
learned after class, srt ut my mistakes in exams, and cnnect new knwledge with what I’ve mastered. Only by cmbining learning with cnstant reflectin can I truly grasp knwledge and make steady prgress. I hpe yu can als put this precius wisdm int practice in yur future studies.
Yurs,
Li Hua

flashing acrss his nervus face as he quickly checked the fin. Withut a secnd thught, David
hurried ver with his repair kit, knelt dwn beside James, and carefully glued the lse fin back t the fuselage. “Why?” James whispered, vice thick with emtin. David met his eyes, sunlight
warming his shulders. “Sme things,” he said sftly, “are mre imprtant than winning.”
Minutes later, James’s rcket blasted skyward, shting up flawlessly. It pierced the blue sky like a shining arrw, saring higher than any ther rcket in the cmpetitin, with its
parachute blming like a bright flwer against the cluds. The crwd erupted int warm cheers. When David’s turn came, his rcket als flew steadily but landed just shrt f James’ mark.
Secnd place was annunced, yet David’s heart felt strangely full. As ther cmpetitrs gathered arund them, laughter and cheers filling the air, David finally understd—this warmth, this
cnnectin, was the victry he’d always missed.
