Building a safe envirnment fr kids
What is the best way t keep my children safe nline and n scial media? Hw can they benefit frm the learning and cnnecting pprtunities ____1____ (prvide) by the Internet,
withut putting them at risk r affecting their mental health? Shuld r shuldn’t I limit their
access? These are the questins that millins f parents — especially thse f teenage children
— 2 (ask) themselves. Digital platfrms, gvernments and children’s rganizatins such as UNICEF are als wrestling with the same issues.
3 scial media can supprt learning and help children stay cnnected with friends and family, excessive use has been linked t negative mental health utcmes, including islatin, depressin and anxiety. Scial media als prvides a channel fr cyberbullying, largely due t
annymity. It als serves 4 an avenue thrugh which sexual predatrs can grm children.
Despite these cncerns, evidence n the direct link between scial media use and mental
health remains limited. Australia, the first cuntry 5 (implement) a scial media ban fr children, has nw, launched an evaluatin t better understand the impact f these restrictins.
Mre evidence n this is needed glbally. Nnetheless, temprary measures 6 be taken t prtect children nw.

children undergrund, encuraging them t create fake prfiles r use thers’ identities t bypass restrictins, 9 can actually put them at greater risk. Evidence shws that weak age

hwever, was the craze beynd the theater. Cashing in n the excitement f the film’s release,
mre than 60 dmestic brands reprtedly launched c-branded prducts, spanning, designer tys, cffee, snacks, csmetics, mbile games and even autmbiles. Nearly every majr cnsumer
12 was cvered.
Similarly, the dmestic IP Ne Zha 2 saw its pst-film merchandise gain mmentum ver nearly a year, 13 with mre than 23 brands acrss sectrs such as child care, digital
prducts, fd and beverages and cllectible tys. By incrprating traditinal Chinese cultural elements during festivals such as the Mid-Autumn Festival and the Dragn Bat Festival, the
franchise (系列电影) achieved a(n) 14 ttal cmmercial value f 30 t 35 billin yuan.
In the past, film revenues relied mainly n bx ffice and sales. Tday, the
pst-film industry has becme a pwerful 15 f IP value. Data shw that fr mature film IPs, pst-film prducts can accunt fr ver 60 percent f ttal revenue, far 16 bx
ffice earnings.
The rapid grwth f the pst-film industry has als pened new 17 fr cultural
exchange between China and the rest fthe wrld. High-quality freign IP s and their pst-film
prducts are allwing audiences in China t experience the appeal f different cultures beynd the screen.
Hllywd has actively adapted its IP strategies t the Chinese market. Ztpia 2, fr
instance, was released during the Year f the Snake and prmted a key character, Gary the snake, whse name was humrusly 18 fr Chinese audiences. Shanghai Disneyland adjusted the peratin f its Ztpia zne in sync with the film’s prmtin, creating 19

Cllege freshmen wh just arrived n campus have heard that cllege exists mainly fr the sake f wrk. Clleges themselves their graduates’ emplyment rates, starting salaries and career netwrks as majr selling pints.
A majrity f students say that getting a better jb is a reasn fr ging t
cllege. They want t that their degrees will lead t higher earnings. That’s a
, because this mentality leaves n rm fr what cllege shuld primarily be abut: nt wrk but leisure. Cllege is a unique time t discver like an ear fr petry, r a keen mral imaginatin. These may nt pay ff , but they are part f wh yu are. It allws yur mind t branch ut, grw and blssm.
Philspher Jsef Pieper might have said that when students see cllege exclusively in
terms f wrk, they their wn humanity. “The pint and the justificatin f leisure,” he wrte, are nt that they make it pssible fr peple t “functin faultlessly and withut
” but rather that they make it pssible fr wrkers t remain human. , Pieper argued, is actually a part f wrk, keeping yu in gd wrking rder. He saw leisure as bth
ur full humanity and pinting beynd its limitatins.
When I was in cllege, ne f my prfessrs lived in a drm as a faculty adviser. He invited students in fr cffee and cnversatin abut anything — literature, science, plitics. At that time, I knew almst nthing f his life beynd the university. But I saw in his brad curisity and his
cmfrt with discussin a way f life I never befre imagined. It was the life f the mind.
Precius few areas f American life are nt by wrk. Cllege prfessrs ften cntribute t the prblem. We fly thrugh a hundred slides in a 50-minute lecture. We pride
urselves n hw ur classes are. It’s nt easy t make space fr leisure within
universities that lk increasingly like . Still, at their best, clleges ffer an alternative t the culture that peple slely fr their labr.
Yes, a cllege educatin will help smene earn mre in a career. That’s a gd thing. But life is much mre than wrk.

Bth f these adventures suggested the enduring value fwhat I call “the pizza cure”. Its
beauty lies in its simplicity. By way f example, ne f my students recently tld a minr persnal crisis t me. Nthing I said culd pull him ut f his marsh f hpelessness, s I acted. I tk him t a lcal pizza jint and watched as he tucked int a pizza. Mments later the cluds had parted

Cmmissin.

“This is really abut trying t cut thrugh the cnfusin that cnsumers have when they are buying a prduct and that businesses have when they are selling a prduct,” said Jn Leibwitz,

The revisins cme at a time when green marketing is n the rise. Accrding t a new

But while the number f advertisements may have dipped, there has been a rapid spread f eclabeling. There are bth gd and bad players in the ec-labeling game.
In the last five years r s, there has been an explsin f green claims and envirnmental claims. It is clear that cnsumers dn’t always knw what they are getting.
A handful f lawsuits have been filed in recent years against cmpanies accused f using misleading envirnmental labels. In 2008 and 2009, class-actin lawsuits were filed against SC
Jhnsn fr using “Greenlist” labels n its cleaning prducts. The lawsuits said that the label was misleading because it gave the impressin that the prducts had been certified (认证) by a third party when the certificatin was the cmpany’s wn.
“We are very prud f ur accmplishments under the Greenlist system and we believe that we will succeed in these cases,” Christpher Beard, directr f public affairs fr SC Jhnsn, said, while acknwledging that “this has been an area that is difficult t navigate.”

T illustrate the magnitude f the change, researchers gave this example: A child is brn
where 250 stars are visible n a clear night. 48 . “We are lsing, year by year, the
pssibility t see the stars, which has been a universal human experience,” said Fabi Falchi, a
physicist at Chile’s University f Santiag de Cmpstela. “If yu can still see the dimmest stars, yu are in a very dark place. But if yu see nly the brightest nes, yu are in a very light-plluted place.”
“ 49 ,” said Christpher Kyba, a physicist at the German Research Centre fr Gesciences in Ptsdam.
But the satellites used aren’t able t detect light with wavelengths tward the blue end f
the spectrum (光谱) — including the light frm energy-efficient LED bulbs. Mre than half f the new utdr lights installed in the United States in the past decade have been LED lights,
accrding t the researchers. The satellites are als better at detecting light that scatters upward, like a sptlight, than light that scatters hrizntally, like the glw f an illuminated billbard at night.
Gergetwn University bilgist Emily Williams, wh was nt part f the study, said

IV. Summary Writing (10 分)

Why Being Sensitive is a Strength
There are plenty f traits we take pride in but being “sensitive” is usually perceived as a
weakness. It’s used t mean yu’re fragile, r just verreacting. The message sensitive peple get is that they shuld “vercme” their sensitivity and “tughen up.” Hwever, sensitivity is largely lasting. Sensitive peple are brn t prcess infrmatin mre deeply than thers d, enabling
them t ntice what thers miss, feel intensely, and have a vivid inner life. Such depth yields gifts.
The mst well-knwn sensitive gift is creativity. Many artists, musicians, and actrs are
themselves sensitive peple. But creativity desn’t end with the arts. The same ability translates t innvatin. Many f ur greatest thinkers and scientists thrughut histry have been sensitive
peple. They tend t be deep thinkers wh spend mre time and energy turning prblems ver in their heads-and end up seeing mre pssibilities and slutins.
A secnd strength sensitive peple have is their decisin-making ability. Such an ability
may give them an advantage. In a 2008 cmputer simulatin (模拟) f natural selectin, creatures wh spent mre resurces cnsidering their ptins and cmparing them t past results, as
sensitive peple d, came ut ahead lng-term cmpared t less-sensitive creatures. They amassed mre resurces ver time and ut-survived thers. In the wilderness, that might mean tracking
dwn game when everyne is hungry. In the bardrm, it means steering cmpanies t the tp f their industry.
But perhaps the greatest advantage f sensitive peple is what we call the “Bst Effect”.
The “Bst Effect” means that sensitive peple get mre f a bst frm the same things that help anyne. They are energized by any frm f training r supprt. If yu’re a sensitive persn, yu
can activate this ability by cultivating a supprtive envirnment arund yurself and by seeking ut resurces such as mentring, training, therapy, r caching.
If any f this sunds like yu, yu might be mre sensitive than yu realize. If s, yu have prbably felt the pressure t hide it. But that’s a trap. Trying t d s nly cuts yu ff frm yur gifts. S stp hiding, Embrace it, and shw it t the wrld.

根据第二段中“But ne day, when he was 8, smething didn’t g his way. He was still getting English under his belt, and, having nt wn in the matter, he annunced, “I want t g back t Russia.”(但是有一天,在他 8 岁的时候,事情没有按照他的意愿发展。他还在学习英语,因为没有在这件事上获胜,他宣布:“我想回俄罗斯。”)”可知,Alysha 想回俄罗斯是因为他的英语学习不顺利。

neighbr’s family. One cld, dark evening, he intended t visit Diana against my wishes. I had
quite a time lcating him, but I eventually fund him standing n a traffic island, tears cursing

作者在第二、三段讲述与大儿子 Alysha 的披萨故事,在第四段讲述了与小儿子的披萨故事,在第五段中“By way f example, ne f my students recently tld a minr persnal crisis t me. Nthing I said culd pull him ut f his marsh f hpelessness, s I acted. I

故 D 项“A simple gesture speaks luder than well-versed speeches.(一个简单的举动胜过精心准备的言辞)”与文章主旨相符。

Chinese Classics FEATURE OF THE MONTH 中“This mnth’s selectin
cmes frm Fujian.( 本月的精选菜品来自福建。)”

packaging and limit them t a specific benefit, such as hw much f the prduct is recycled.(修订后的“绿色指南”告诫营销人员不要使用那些笼统宣称“环保” 的标签。
根据第七段“The lawsuits said that the label was misleading because it gave the impressin that the prducts had been certified (认证) by a third party when the certificatin was
We are very prud f ur accmplishments under the
Greenlist system and we believe that we will succeed in these cases,” Christpher Beard, directr f public affairs fr SC Jhnsn, said, while acknwledging that “this has been an area that is
difficult t navigate.”(“我们在‘绿色清单’制度下取得的成果令我们深感自豪,我们相信在这些案例中我们也能取得成功。”
根据最后一段“It’s kind f a Wild West, anybdy can claim themselves t be green.(这有点像“西部荒野”式的局面,任何人都可以自诩为环保人士)”和“Mr. Wilhelm said the excess f labels made it difficult fr businesses and cnsumers t knw which labels they

lking at satellite data.(这一变化速度远比科学家此前通过卫星数据预估的要快得多。)”
48 .上文“A child is brn where 250 stars are visible n a clear night.(一个孩子出生时,晴朗的夜晚能看到 250 颗星星。)” 以孩子出生为时间起点举例,D 选项“By the time that child turns an adult, nly less than half f the stars are still visible.(等到这个孩子成年时,能看到的星星不足一半。)”
49.下文“But the satellites used aren’t able t detect light with wavelengths tward the blue end f the spectrum (光谱) — including the light frm energy-efficient LED bulbs.(然而,目前所用的卫星无法探测到光谱蓝光波段的光线,节能 LED 灯发出的光线就包含在此范围内。)”指出卫星监测的不足,A 选项“Prir studies f artificial lighting, which used satellite images, had
estimated an annual increase f 2% in sky brightness.(以往针对人造灯光的研究依靠卫星图像,预估夜空亮度年增幅仅为 2% 。)”
50.根据上文“skyglw disrupts circadian rhythms in humans and ther frms f life.(光污染扰乱人类和其他生物的昼夜节律)”和下文“And when sea turtle babies hatch, they use light t rient tward the cean — light pllutin is a huge deal fr them.(海龟幼崽破壳而出后,也会借助光线辨别方向、爬向大海,而光污染对它们来说是个很大的问题。)”
