She wants me t hit her with my fist. But fear nt, this is all strictly pretend!
Kate, knwn in the industry as Kmbat Kate, is giving a lessn n hw actrs fight each ther withut getting hurt.
It was n small rder: as well as a certificate in advanced stage fighting, she

wuld need a black belt in karate (空手道) and skill in fencing, a sprt she’d never tried befre.(这可不是个小任

In ur lessn, Kate shws me hw an actr will stand with his r her back t the audience
ahead f a planned slap (拍). When the slap cmes it makes cntact nt with the skin but with the air: the actr hits
his chest r leg t make the sund f the slap.(在我们的课上,凯特向我展示了演员在计划好的拍打动作前如何
She laughs, “Oh, I’d be awful,” she says. “I nly knw hw t pretend.” I can’
t help thinking, hwever, that she’s just being rather humble.(她笑着说:“哦,那我会很糟糕的。”

The rle f queen is the mst imprtant in an ant clny — she prduces all the eggs, and she’s cared fr by

vilently until she was dead.
After that, the clny’s ants accepted the new female as their new queen and began serving her, prtecting her
and helping raise her yung.
8. What is the authr’s purpse by mentining Waterl and Gettysburg?
A. T cmpare war strategies. B. T shw ants’ war size.
C. T highlight war’s cruelty. D. T explain ants’ war signals.
9. What did the experts make the female ants d in the lab?
A. Build up a new nest. B. Kill the queen directly.
C. Cntact freign wrkers. D. Prduce chemical liquids.
10. Why did the ant wrkers kill their queen?
A. They fllwed a natural rder. B. They wanted t have a new queen.
C. They were threatened by utsiders. D. They were misled by her new smell.
11. What is the best title fr the text?
A. Cnflicts amng Ant Clnies B. The Imprtant Rles f a Queen
C. Chemical Tricks fr New Queens D. The Rules within Ant Clnies
B 9. C 10. D 11. C
Bilgist E.O. Wilsn nce wrte that “ants are the mst warlike f all animals”,
nting that fights between ant clnies (蚁群) were far bigger than the human battles at Waterl and Gettysburg.(
The experts gave females the pprtunity t d this in the lab, letting them

Then, the scientists discvered a female made her way thrugh a clny twards
its queen. Once she reached the queen, she sht sme liquid t cver the queen, and then pulled back. “My guess is
that it was a kind f chemical,” says Takasuka. That’s used by sme ants as a defense, r t signal danger.

Bilgist E.O. Wilsn nce wrte that “ants are the mst warlike f all
animals”, nting that fights between ant clnies (蚁群) were far bigger than the human battles at Waterl and
Gettysburg. But smetimes ant clnies get taken ver nt by direct warfare, but by secret actin. In fact,
smetimes the members f an ant clny can get tricked int murdering their wn precius queen.(生物学家 E.O.

Chemical Tricks
