These days, a dependable WiFi signal is far mre than a cnvenience. We cunt n Internet service t deal with the fun things like streaming mvies. But we als depend n it t spread and receive infrmatin, making a strng cnnectin imprtant. Unluckily, many peple struggle with WiFi prblems in their hmes. The gd news? A range f easy methds can help, frm repsitining yur existing ruter (路由器) t trying a new ruter.
If the signal frm yur Internet service prvider seems fine, yu’ll need t check yur ruter. Start with an easy fix: Mve yur ruter t a better lcatin. Think f it like a light that’s suppsed t brighten up a whle rm. Fr the best results, the ruter shuld be in an pen, central, heightened psitin, rather than in a clset, behind a TV, r n the flr.

Fr the best results, place it abut halfway between yur ruter and the dead crner. Hwever, this slutin has disadvantages. Recently, hwever, AI has given him a secnd chance. Wrking with Dr Richard Cave frm University Cllege Lndn, Darling used an Eleven Labs AI tl t cllect infrmatin abut his vice frm ld, lw-quality vides. Thugh the tl usually needs clear sund recrdings, the vides were enugh t create a synthetic (合成的) versin f his singing vice that sunded “human, althugh nt perfect”.
Eleven Labs als allws patients wh have lst their vice t use its tl fr free thrugh its public welfare prgram. “Our aim is nt t fix physical struggles,” says prgram leader Gabi Leibwitz, “but t let peple create again and feel like themselves.” Fr Darling, this meant cmpsing new music with AI.
Darling’s bandmates Nick Ccking and Hari Ma jined him n stage at the Eleven Labs celebratin event, playing musical instruments alngside Darling’s singing vice. “T see Darling back t the place where he belngs, sharing his music with us again, makes my heart feel full. Dr. Byungkyu Lee, ne f the researchers, explained that “hasslers” act as lng-term stressrs. When peple ften face stress frm difficult relatinships, their bdies will give ut crtisl — smething that makes their bdies hurt inside. Thugh shrt-term stress is nt a threat, lasting stress fr mnths r years causes serius damage t the bdy, escalating the risk f many chrnic (慢性的) diseases and finally shrtening life.
The study was carried ut amng 2,345 peple aged between 18 and 104. Researchers asked the participants abut peple arund them and hw ften these peple caused truble. They used tw scientific means t measure bilgical aging: Grim Age, which shws ttal aging damage, and Dunedin PACE, which shws hw fast a persn is aging. Many ther influencers were als cntrlled t make the study mre trustwrthy.
Interestingly enugh, negative relatinships between husbands and wives did nt prduce such harmful effects. Different frm ther family members, cuples live tgether every day and ffer each ther emtinal cmfrt, which helps reduce the stress brught by their disagreements.
Since it is nt always easy t cut ff cntact with stressful peple, experts suggest that peple shuld enlarge and enrich their scial circles by taking part in vlunteering r develping shared hbbies. Yu generally have reasns, gd r bad, fr yur ideas. Yu can think carefully abut thse reasns: “Why d I think there’s smene quietly hiding in the rm? It’s because the flr made a strange sund.” And yu can als change yur ideas when additinal prf requires it: “Having searched the rm, I must cnclude that it’s just an ld huse.” This thinking skill is knwn as belief revisin. It’s lng been cnsidered a mark that sets us apart frm ther animals. But a recent study shws that chimps (黑猩猩) can als weigh infrmatin and update their belief.
In a series f experiments, researchers in Uganda tested chimps t see hw the animals dealt with different surces f infrmatin. Each experiment used the fd hidden in ne f several bxes. The chimps wuld pick the bx they thught was mst prmising based n an riginal clue (线索). Then they’d get anther clue that smetimes disagreed with the first. Given the chance t update their decisin, they almst always chse the bx supprted by a ratinal (理智的) chice mdel and changed their mind when the new infrmatin was strnger than what they already knew.
Mst impressively, the chimps even cnsidered clues that went against earlier infrmatin. If they heard smething inside bx 1, accrding t previus experience, they wuld believe at first that it was an apple. But then the researchers wuld pull ut a stne. Realizing they had been misled, the chimps wuld immediately chse bx 2, even thugh it had appeared uninteresting a mment befre.
This study reminds us that thse skills develped frm thinking abilities that were already present in the cmmn ancestr we share with chimps. Mre than 150 years ag, Charles Darwin thught that ur mental pwers wuld turn ut t be develpments f abilities fund thrughut the animal wrld. If chimps are truly able t think reasnably, the difference between us and them narrws a bit further.
