(创新题)Sme kids struggle with math. Nw, scientists have pinpinted sme f the specific thinking prcesses and brain regins that might explain the reasn.
In the new study, researchers tested secnd and third grade kids with and withut math learning disabilities by shwing them tw numbers frm 1 t 9 and giving the kids a few secnds t pick which number they thught was larger. The researchers recrded hw lng it tk kids t answer questins and bserved kids’ brain activities using an MRI scanner. The team analyzed the data abut the kids’ perfrmance and behavir using a cmplex mathematical analysis designed t find patterns in behavir, like hw carefully children answered thrughut the experiment and hw they changed their behavir after mistakes. They then cmpared thse behavir patterns with brain activity.
“We weren’t interested in the perfrmance f this numeral task but hw they apprached the task differently between the tw grups,” says Hyesang Chang, a cgnitive neurscientist at San Jsé State University in Califrnia.
Frm the MRI data, Chang and clleagues fund that the lack f cautin in kids with math learning disabilities when giving answers was assciated with lwer activity in the middle frntal gyrus, a brain regin assciated with prcessing numbers, fcus, impulse cntrl and adapting t changing circumstances. Meanwhile, nt slwing dwn after errrs was assciated with lwer activity in anther brain regin invlved in detecting errrs and mnitring perfrmance.
Identifying these brain regins suggests that explaining differences in math skills is mre cmplex than finding ne part f the brain that handles math and numbers. “Instead, the study helps us knw brain areas that prcess infrmatin and find errrs are key,” says Marie Arsalidu, a develpmental cgnitive neurscientist at Yrk University in Trnt, wh wasn’t invlved in the study. “We’re learning that there’re many regins invlved.”
One insight f the new wrk is that there are hidden mechanisms that differentiate students wh may ptentially have math learning difficulties. Future interventins culd invlve teaching kids t think abut hw they are slving prblems and even teaching them different prblem-slving strategies.

C.They graded the kids’ academic perfrmance.
D.They evaluated the kids’ numeral task respnse.

      A.The efficiency f prcessing numbers.
B.The willingness t make an adjustment.
C.The activity level f certain brain regins.
      D.The cmpetence in mnitring perfrmance.
30.What may help kids with math learning disabilities?
      A.Intense training.B.Prper instructins.
      C.Insightful answers.D.Cmplex mechanisms.
31.What can be a suitable title fr the text?
A.What lies behind math learning difficulties?
B.What shapes kids’ math learning awareness?
C.Hw can we avid making math mistakes?
D.Hw can we imprve math perfrmance?
      D
