Digital reading seems t have a great advantage ver print because it is paperless, s it saves trees and transprt. Researchers frm Brigham Yung University discvered that fathers are in a unique psitin t help their adlescent children learn persistence.
BYU prfessrs Laura Padilla-Walker and Randal Duy arrived at these findings after fllwing 325 American families ver several years. And ver time, the persistence gained thrugh fathers led t higher achievement in schl.
“There are relatively few studies that stress the unique rle f fathers.” Padilla-Walker said. “This research als helps t prve that characteristics such as persistence which can be taught are key t a child’s life success.”
Researchers determined that dads need t practice an “authritative” parenting style. Authritative parenting is nt authritarian; strict, demanding r cntrlling. Rather, an authritative parenting style includes sme f the fllwing characteristics: children feel warmth and lve frm their father; respnsibility and the reasns behind rules are stressed; children are given a prper level f autnmy.
In the study, abut 52 percent f the dads shwed abve-average levels f authritative parenting. A key finding is that ver time, children raised by an authritative father were mre likely t develp persistence, which leads t better results in schl.
This particular study examined 11-t 14-year-lds living in tw-parent hmes. Yet the researchers suggest that single parents still may play a rle in teaching the benefits f persistence, which is an avenue f future research.
