affrdable, and still carries sme architecturally striking features,” said Zebian. “We dn’t want t be bringing a
huse t Canadians that is just bxy and that nt much thught was put int.”
S, he went t the drawing bard and designed a mdular hme that can reprtedly be assembled in just ne
day. The hme is made f fiberglass panels and PET fam (泡沫). He said these chices were made because they
can prvide slid structural supprt. “Fr ur rfing system, we’re actually using a PET fam cre that helps keep
the temperature stable inside and supprts the structure and structural integrity f the rf,” said Zebian.
Zebian’s current prttype (模型) measures 8 feet by 5 feet by 8 feet. But his design prcess didn’t end with a

The next time yu find yurself in a car, driving alng a winding rad, why nt turn n a cheerful sng? It
might help yu recver frm car sickness. A team f researchers led by neurscientist Yilun Li at China’s Henan
Institute f Science and Technlgy has fund music may be a surprisingly effective way t reduce travel-related
discmfrt and dizziness.
In the experiments, 30 vlunteers used a machine that imitated (模仿) car driving, in which they were made t
feel carsick while wearing an electrencephalgraph (EEG) cap. This allwed researchers t “read” the vlunteers’
brain activity in real time, as it changed frm a stable state t ne f carsickness, and gradually back again.
Vlunteers were divided int six grups. Fur grups listened t a minute f music after the sick-making drive; ne
grup listened t n music after the drive, and instead spend ne minute meditating (冥想), that is, staying calm
and fcusing n their breathing; and ne ended the drive right befre vlunteers were expected t feel discmfrt.
The researchers fund that jyful music reduced symptms f carsickness by 14% cmpared t the grup that
meditated. Sft music was the next best type. It reduced symptms by 13.4% cmpared t the meditatin cntrls.
It’s difficult t evaluate hw significant these changes are, as the current experiments were grunded in a small
grup f peple with limited statistical pwer. Even s, the results have fund music can be pwerful — changing
the way we feel, fr better r wrse.
Previus studies have als shwn that a favrite music can reduce symptms f visually caused carsickness r
“cybersickness” frm virtual reality devices. But while sme research suggests that sad music can imprve md
and make us feel gd, it’s pssible that in sme situatins, it can have the ppsite effect. Sad music may wrsen
discmfrt thrugh emtinal cnnectin, the authrs suggest. In cntrast, cheerful r relaxing music may help
vlunteers maintain a gd physical state, thus imprving their cmfrt.
8. What is the authr’s purpse in writing the first paragraph?
A. T give practical advice t drivers. B. T intrduce a research discvery.
C. T explain a new scientific thery. D. T questin an ld cmmn belief.
9. Hw did the researchers measure the vlunteers’ brain activity?
A. By testing in a mving car. B. By playing different sngs.
C. By bserving their behavir. D. By using a special device.
10. What is ne disadvantage f the experiments?
A. Randm vlunteer subjects. B. Limited music types.
C. Shrt experiment time. D. Small sample size.
11. What is implied abut music’s effect n mtin sickness?
A. Its effect relies n persnal taste in music.
B. Its emtinal types define its final effect.
C. It may prduce unintended negative results.
D. It primarily addresses physical symptms.

Frg-eating bats trained by researchers t assciate a phne ringtne with a tasty treat were able t remember

unmved by the expsure t the unfamiliar tnes.
“I was surprised. Fur years strikes me as a lng time t hld n t a sund that yu might never hear again.
