(1)The underlined wrd “...” in clsest in meaning t .
(2)What des the underlined wrd “...” prbably mean?
(3)The underlined wrd “...” culd best be replaced by “ ”.
(4)Which f the fllwing wrds can take the place f the wrd “...”?
      (5)By saying “...”, the authr means .
(6)“...” used in the passage can best be defined as .
(3)文章下文中常以某种特定方式对前文进行解释,如利用r, that is (t say), in ther wrds, namely等词语。
例如:Taylr's swift actin helped her teammates calm dwn.One girl called 911.Tw mre ran t get the schl nurse, wh brught a defibrillatr, an electrnic device (器械) that can shck the heart back int wrk.Luck stayed with them:Paris's heartbeat returned.
A silence in a cnversatin may als shw stubbrnness, uneasiness, r wrry.
表示因果关系的标志词有because, s, thus, therefre, as a result f, since, s that, 等。
例如:My sn culd nt fllw the teacher's directins, he tld me, and thus, Scla was disrupting the class.Didn't he knw my sn did nt speak English yet?
试题:What des the underlined wrd “disrupting” prbably mean?
      A.Breaking. B.Fllwing.
      C.Attending. D.Disturbing.
常见的表示相同或相近意义的词和短语有and, r, like, as well, similarly, t, als, either等。
例如:The fine selectin f the majr wrks was dne in clse cllabratin(合作) with the Muse Nacinal Reina Sfia in Madrid, Spain, and with cntributins frm ther institutins like the Salvadr Dali Museum in St.Petersburg, Flrida.
试题:What des the underlined wrd “cntributins” refer t?
      A.Artwrks. B.Prjects.
      C.Dnatins. D.Dcuments.
and前面提到了“The fine selectin f the majr wrks(精选的重要作品)”,后面说cntributins来自其他机构,由并列关系可以推断出cntributins应该属于wrks的范畴,同时文中明确表示cntributins是来自museum的。故选A。
能体现转折、对比关系的词汇很多,常见的有but,yet,hwever,while,unlike,instead (f),n the ther hand,rather than,n the cntrary等。
例如:In the evening, rides are usually at a mre relaxed and unhurried pace, with glden light streaming acrss the grassy delta and the animals cming ut t eat and drink.Sedate thugh they are, rides at this time f day are still very impressive.
试题:What des the underlined wrd “Sedate” prbably mean?
A.Wild and rmantic. B.Slw and peaceful.
C.Hungry and thirsty. D.Active and excited.
由thugh可知,前后两句是转折关系,再结合前一句中提到的“at a mre relaxed and unhurried pace”可知,应选B项,Sedate意为“不慌不忙的”。故选B。

By the time I hit my early 40s, I'd tried all the usual stuff t deal with the whle “middle-age” thing.I tried learning a new language, messed arund with crafting, and even gave yga anther g.But nthing really stuck. In a mment f ttal desperatin, I decided t sign up fr ballet classes. My husband pinted ut that I wasn't exactly flexible, and my track recrd with physical activities was pretty bad.But I was determined t give it a sht.I needed t feel like my bdy culd still mve and be graceful.
Befre my first adult ballet class at the Natinal Ballet Schl in Trnt, I dug ut a rhinestne(莱茵石) headband that had been sitting in my drawer fr years.I figured if I was ging t stand in frnt f a mirrr and shw ff my flaws t a bunch f strangers, I might as well d it with sme sparkle.

On a warm and damp June mrning, Emily Bick winds thrugh a field f knee-high crn.It feels like that quiet, expectatin-filled mment befre a cncert: Tech peple are setting up micrphnes, cnnecting wires. The star f this particular shw is the micrphne itself.Research assistants are attaching it t the crn stalks(茎), an innvatin that Bick named the Insect Eavesdrpper(窃听器).
Bick, an insect scientist, researches ways t better detect the agricultural pests that drive serius ecnmic lsses wrldwide. She says imprving these methds culd result in using pesticides mre strategically—less ften, at just the right time.Crn rtwrm, als knwn as the “billin-dllar bug”, feeds n crn rts, limiting the plant's nutrient supply and making stalks fall ver.As a result, 20% f the crp is lst t the insect every year.Wrse still, climate change is bringing new challenges, such as the multiplicatin f insects in warmer temperatures. In ur glbal sciety, experts say rapid pest detectin will be critical t fd prductin.
Bick's slutin t the prblem f pest detectin is sund: Eavesdrpping n the unique vibratins(震动) that an insect makes when chewing n a plant t identify the insect itself. The Insect Eavesdrpper uses a cntact micrphne, an affrdable device that musicians ften use n instruments.A little disc sits n a slid bject—like crn—and captures the vibratins mving thrugh it, registering each ne with an electrical signal.“When crn rtwrm feeds n the rts, the vibratin translates frm the rt system t the stalk,” Bick says.“That's where we're picking it up.We're using the plant as the musical instrument, as essentially the utside f a guitar.”
Bick and her clleagues' findings aren't published yet, but as f nw, their detectin methd is anywhere frm 80% t 96% accurate. The team are still wrking n the data-prcessing pipeline, but hpe they can get the Insect Eavesdrpper n the shelf in a cuple f years.Their gal is t advance pest detectin—and maybe inspire peple t listen t everything a little clser.
13.What is Bick's purpse in wrking in the crn field?
A.T prepare fr a cncert. B.T arrange fr a study.
C.T make the shw special. D.T innvate planting ways.
14.Why is crn rtwrm named “billin-dllar bug”?
A.Its nutrient is rich. B.It causes great lss.
C.Its number is limited. D.It brings huge prfits.
