Research has fund that lneliness and scial islatin are assciated with an increased risk f cnditins like anxiety, depressin, heart disease, and strke. In fact, a 2010 analysis fund that lneliness is as harmful t physical health as smking 15 cigarettes a day — meaning using friendship t reduce lneliness is gd fr yu. But hw many friends shuld yu have?
Accrding t Jeffrey Hall, a prfessr f cmmunicatin studies at the University f Kansas, if yu want t ease the health impacts f lneliness, the mst imprtant thing yu can d is t have at least ne imprtant persn in yur life. But if yu want t have the mst meaningful life, ne where yu feel very bnded and cnnected t thers, mre friends are better.
Sme research endrses his remarks. One study frm 2016 fund that thse with at least six friends have better health thrughut their lives, and a study frm 2020 fund that middle-aged wmen wh have at least three friends typically have higher levels f verall satisfactin with their lives.
T figure ut whether yu need mre friends in yur life, psychlgist Marisa Franc recmmends asking yurself, “D I feel lnely?” Lneliness is srt f an alarm system. While everyne feels lnely smetimes, yu shuld determine whether yu feel left ut r islated regularly.
Franc als recmmends asking yurself if there are parts f yur identity that yu feel are restricted. “Different peple bring ut different parts f us. S when yu have a large friend grup, yu’re able t experience this side f yurself that lves basketball, and that side f yurself that lves flwers,” Franc said. “If yu’re nt feeling quite like yurself, that might indicate yu need different types f friends.”
Since making new friends can be difficult, Franc said it’s ften easier t rekindle ld relatinships. She added that yu shuld take the initiative and nt assume that friendships will naturally happen.

A.Cntinuus self-dubt.B.Few exciting experiences.
C.Ineffective scial activities.D.Cnstant feelings f islatin.
35.What des Franc say abut having a large friend grup?
A.It requires befriending thse with shared values.
B.It ensures persnal grwth by wide scial circles.
C.It means a persn wn’t feel restricted any lnger.

Hw t take — and give — criticism well
We all lve t criticize. Unfrtunately, we als hate being criticized. We pst and cmment n thers with abandn, but feel angry at the way thers assess us, bth nline and in persn. The wrld seems unlikely t change anytime sn. 36 , in ways that will make us less likely t feel ffended (冒犯) and harm thers, and better able t benefit frm criticism.
● It’s nt persnal.
When we receive criticism, we make it persnal in tw ways. First, we may naturally analyze the critic rather than the criticism. Secnd, we tend t cnsider the criticism a judgment n ur inner abilities, rather than n ur perfrmance. The slutin is t set up an internal affirmatin (肯定) such as: “I dn’t care what this criticism says abut the persn giving it, and I chse nt t see it as a persnal attack n me. 37 — nthing mre, nthing less.”
● Treat criticism like insider infrmatin.
Once yu depersnalize criticism in this way, yu can start t see it fr what it is: a rare glimpse int what utsiders think abut yur perfrmance. 38 . If this desn’t cme easily t yu, ne way t develp the curage t d s is t ask friends whm yu like and trust t frm a critics’ circle, reviewing ne anther’s wrk and giving hnest suggestins.
● Make criticism a gift, never a weapn.
We all have t give criticism frm time t time. The key t criticizing t the best effect is t remember the gift / weapn rule: 39 ; if I am ding it t harm, I am ding it wrng. T keep criticism in the first categry, research tells us that it shuld have five elements: the care f the recipient (接受者) in mind, respectful delivery, gd intentins, a pathway t imprvement, and an apprpriate target f the recipient’s needs.
● 40 .
Schlars writing in 2014 shwed that psitive feedback given t students in public was 9 percent mre mtivating than when given privately, while negative feedback in private was 11 percent mre mtivating than in public. S what des that mean fr yur rude nline reviews? Send them t the blgger directly, if yu dare. Or better yet, dn’t send them at all - unless yu truly intend them t be helpful.
A.Criticism is a gift t a wise persn
B.Praise in public, and criticize in private
C.Smetimes praise, and smetimes criticize
D.If I am criticizing t help, I am ding it right
E.I will assess it n its face abut the matter at hand
F.Hwever, each f us can change hw we take and give criticism
G.This prvides a ptential pprtunity t crrect curse and imprve

Thusands f years ag, peple lived withut clcks. Listening t music has been ne f my favurite hbbies fr years. My favurite sng is My Mtherland and Me.
What attracts me mst is its beautiful meldy. I fell in lve with it the first time I heard it. In additin, its lyrics are excellent, especially the first sentence — “China catches my heart and n ne can break us apart.” After all, it is the cntent that is imprtant t a wrk f art. Mre imprtantly, I am mved by the feeling f patritism the sng spreads. N wnder it is sung by thusands f millins f peple all ver China.
