Yu dn't have t be rich t travel well. Fr my husband and I, this rings especially true: he's retired early and I wrk part - time as an editr, which gives us plenty f time and freedm but nt much in the way f funds. We've happily chsen free time ver mney, yet we lve t travel, and travel usually csts a lt. Still, we've managed t take a lt f affrdable trips by huse trading.
Huse trading isn't the same as Airbnb r renting a rm in smene's hme: there's n exchange f mney, n check - in desks r strict rules, which makes it feel mre like staying as guests in each ther's huses. Living in smene else's space builds a unique clseness — admiring their bkshelf picks, the way they arrange ptted plants, r family phts n the fridge turns virtual strangers int familiar faces. We've even grwn repeat trades int real friendships.
On ur very first trade, ur partner welcmed us with a bttle f wine and sme cheese in the fridge, and we've kept that gracius traditin ging with ur wn "guests". Since then, we've encuntered all kinds f thughtful acts — frm the yung cuple wh left the keys in their mailbx alng with a nte that said "Enjy!" t the family wh prvided piles f maps, brchures, and lcal restaurant menus. With these small "insider" tips, we dn't just visit a city — we slip int its daily flw, free frm the rush f mving frm ne landmark t anther.
Yes, huse trading did begin with ur desire t travel n the cheap, but it's becme s much mre than just a way t save mney. It let us get glimpses f places we might never have explred therwise, grew ur belief in the warmth f strangers, and cnfirmed ur decisin t chse a lifestyle that values time ver mney. We all learned t share by the time we were in kindergarten, right? It's nt t late t rediscver that simple truth n a whle new level.
24. What first made the authr try huse trading?
A. T reduce travel expenses.B. T earn retirement funds.
C. T upgrade accmmdatins.D. T meet interesting peple.
25. What is the feature f huse trading?
A. It invlves mney exchange.B. It ffers lng - term stay.
C. It creates persnal cnnectin.D. It ensures htel - like service.
26. Why des the authr mentin hsts' thughtful acts?
A. T suggest travel tips.B. T shw lcal custms.
C. T highlight special gains.D. T instruct hsting skills.
27. What message des the authr cnvey in the last paragraph?
A. Trust requires shared values.B. Sharing bears lasting wrth.

Butterflies are sensitive t envirnmental changes, meaning they are imprtant indicatrs f ecsystem health, but they are in decline. New research suggests butterfly numbers can be bsted by making small changes t rad verges (边缘).
While mst studies n rad verges and butterflies have fcused n temperate climates with natural plants in rural areas, new research frm Nanyang Technlgical University (NTU) examined planted vegetatin alng majr rads in big cities f Singapre.
Researchers surveyed 101 rad verges, each at least 30m lng, lcated alng majr rads with speed limits between 50 km/h and 70 km/h, and planted with nn - native bushes. They fund verges with a mixture f different flwering plant species directly increased the ttal number f butterflies and butterfly species. "A greater diversity f flwering plants can ffer a variety f nectar (花蜜) surces fr butterflies. This can attract mre species f butterflies, especially thse that prefer a brad range f nectar frm different flwers," explains Assciate Prfessr Eleanr Slade frm NTU's Asian Schl f the Envirnment.
Selective thinning and less frequent cutting als benefited butterfly numbers and species diversity, with the verges seen as paths linking the insects t ther green spaces. Slade says this culd be because a greater variety f plant heights within rad verges creates different micr - climatic cnditins - variatins in temperature, humidity (湿度) and light intensity - that appeal t different butterflies. Mre unifrm plant heights created by frequently cutting verge plants can reduce the ppulatin f the butterflies and species richness and ffer less prtectin.
The study als shwed busy rads negatively affect butterflies and butterfly species, particularly when traffic density (密度) is higher; this typically ccurs when rad speed limits are higher, and vehicles travel faster. Rads with mre traffic als have greater vehicle pllutin, which can affect bth plants and butterflies.
But the researchers say the benefits f rad verges culd cancel ut these effects if traffic speeds are prper. They fund that fr rads with speed limits f up t 70 km/h, the bad effects f traffic n butterflies culd be reduced by increasing the variety f flwering plants n rad verges and allwing them t grw t varying heights.
28. Why is NTU distinguished frm previus nes?
A. It takes climate change int accunt.
B. It fcuses n ecsystems in rural area.
C. It analyzes butterfly behavir in the frest.
D. It investigates grwn plants alng urban radsides.
29. Why is Eleanr Slade mentined in paragraph 3?
A. T explain research methds.
B. T back the findings f the new study.
C. T prpse strategies fr imprvement.
D. T prve the city is mre suitable fr research.
30. Hw can traffic's negative effects n butterflies be reduced?
A. By frequently cutting verge plants.
B. By planting diverse flwering species.
C. By building barriers between rads and plants.
D. By permitting plants t grw t a specific height.
31. Which is the best title fr the text?
A. Urban Butterflies Bst in SingapreB. Traffic Pllutin Impacts Urban Butterflies
C. Urban Radside Flwers Attract Mre ButterfliesD. Butterflies Benefit frm Radside Greenery in Cities

The cnvenience f mdern life is nthing shrt f astnishing. As I write this, my phne is wirelessly sending sme hits frm the 1700s t my prtable speaker. The fact that, as a culture, we celebrate such cnvenience is understandable. That said, mst peple are able t sense that cnvenience has a darker side.
Befre getting int that, we'd better understand why cnvenience is s seductive first. We ften stp ding the things we need t d t make prgress. Behind every well - intentined plan lies this hrrible sense f inertia. Why is this resistance — and ur crrespnding appetite fr ease — such an essential part f ur nature?
Here, insights frm evlutinary psychlgy (particularly the idea f "the evlutinary mismatch") can help. The evlutinary mismatch is the idea that we evlved fr a hunter - gather lifestyle, and that while ur circumstances have changed cmpletely, ur brains and bdies haven't. Resistance was a necessary cunterbalance (制衡) t the bursts f intense activity that characterized the lives f hunter - gatherers: searching fr fd in driving rain, r running t escape a dangerus animal. It's the reasn we still ask: "D I really have t be ding this? Shuldn't I save my energy?" The peple chsing t remain sheltered during snwstrms, when the prspect f btaining fd was lw, were mre likely t live and pass n their genes t the next generatin.
Since then, f curse, innvatin has changed things greatly. We've altered technlgy and ur envirnments partly t serve ur natural instinct (本能) t cnserve energy. The questin is: what d we stand t lse by fllwing ur tendency t priritize cmfrt and cnvenience?
Cntinually chsing the cnvenient path reduces hw well we can deal with unavidable hardships. And, frm an evlutinary perspective, sme measure f discmfrt is as crucial t ur survival as rest and relaxatin. Our ancestrs didn't survive purely by being lazy, but thrugh a cmbinatin f playing it safe and taking necessary risks.
This difficulty itself des shape ur character. In the technlgical wrld we have fashined, we must smetimes make cnscius effrts t act in ppsitin t ur instincts. As a culture, we must remember while cnvenience feels gd in the mment, ur capacity t adapt and vercme challenges is part f ur evlutinary inheritance (遗传) t, and central t the adventure f life.
32. What des the underlined wrd "inertia" in paragraph 2 mst prbably mean?
A. Laziness.B. Stubbrnness.C. Inflexibility.D. Pessimism.
33. What des "the evlutinary mismatch" mainly refer t?
A. The cntrast between mdern cnvenience and ancient challenges.
B. The argument ver the hunter - gather lifestyle f ancient peple.
C. The incnsistency between persnal gals and scietal expectatins.
D. The cnflict between ur natural instinct and the current envirnment.
34. What may priritizing cnvenience in mdern life result in?
A. A decline in physical fitness.B. Over - dependence n technlgy.
C. Weaker ability t tackle difficulty.D. A lack f innvatin and prgress.
35. What's the authr's purpse?
A. T argue fr cnvenience in mdern life.
B. T warn against vervaluing cnvenience.
C. T illustrate public pinins n cnvenience.
D. T stress the rle f cnvenience in evlutin.
