As a child, I was prud f my suthern rigin. My wn vice reflected my family’s past and present-part nrthern Mississippi, part Tennessee, all suthern. There was n sund I lved mre than my grandmther’s accent: thick, sweet, warm.
While grwing up, I began t realize utside f ur regin, sutherners were ften
dismissed as uncultured and ignrant. I was ready t leave behind my tiny twn in West
Tennessee, starting a new life and jumping at big chances in sme far-ff cities. In that
embarrassing space between “teen” and “adult”, my accent was a symbl f everything I thught I hated abut my life in the rural Suth. I feared it wuld disqualify me frm being a nted
magazine writer. I wuld have t talk less “cuntry”. S I killed a piece f myself. I’m ashamed f it, but I’m mre ashamed that I tried t kill that part f smene else-change Emily’s accent.
I met Emily in cllege. She was determined t wrk fr the student newspaper, which was where I spent mst f my waking hurs, and we became friends. She, unlike me, accepted her
rts. Early in ur friendship, her mther asked where I was frm, assuming it was smewhere up nrth. Then I felt my effrts paid ff and even wanted t ignre the mistake.
Emily is tw years yunger and she cared abut my pinin. I advised her t be mre like me and hide her signature Manchester accent. I stressed that thrughut ur cllege years, ften
by making fun f her vwel (元音) sunds. I tld myself I was helping her achieve her dream f wrking as a reprter. Nw, I see that it was actually abut justifying my hiding part f myself.
Grandma Carlyn used t tell me, “Girl, dn’t frget where yu cme frm.” Nw I truly understand that. Many things have faded frm memry, but this sticks in my mind with
uncmfrtable clarity. Nw that I am grwn and have left the Suth, it’s imprtant t me.

In recent studies we have been investigating mirrr writing by typical 4- t 6-year-ld
children. The term is used because the characters — numbers and capital letters — are reversed (反向), yet are crrect when lked at in a mirrr.
Mirrr writing entered the scientific literature in 1878. The explanatins fr the
phenmenn were nt nly insufficient but als ften wrng. One f them is — writing with the left hand. Thrughut the 20th century, scientific jurnals have published mirrr writing mstly
prduced by left-handed children. Even tday, left-handedness is ften the favrite explanatin f teachers when children prduce mirrr writing.
The explanatin we find fr the phenmenn f mirrr writing f characters wrks n tw successive levels, the first cerebral and the secnd behaviral. The cerebral level shws that the
brain remves rientatin (left r right) when string images, a prcess called symmetrisatin r mirrr generalizatin. This mirrr-generalizatin prcess leads children aged 5 t knw, frm
memry, the shape f the characters, but nt their left/right rientatin. Given the features f the prcess — hrizntal mirrr in the visual mdality (视觉模式) — it is imprtant t nte that the initial learning f the frm f the characters by the children is mainly visual, and that the children nly prduce hrizntal mirrr writing.
At the behaviral level, when children write the characters frm memry, they must give them an rientatin. In cuntries whse primary languages are written in Latin characters —
written frm left t right — children mst ften pint them tward the right. This leads them t reverse mainly the left-riented characters: J, Z, 1, 2, 3, 7, and 9. Hwever, when spatial
cnstraints cause them t write frm right t left, the children instead reverse the right-riented letters.
Since this explanatin has nthing t d with the handedness f the children, it can be
predicted that right-handed children will reverse characters almst ften as left-handed children, and that – left-handed r right-handed – children will primarily reverse left-riented characters in Western culture. This is because they strictly rient the characters in the directin f writing.
8 .What aspect f a character des mirrr generalizatin help children t knw?
A .Its frm. B .Its prnunciatin.
C .Its meaning. D .Its rientatin.
9 .Which paragraph shws why mirrr writing is reversed hrizntally rather than vertically (垂直)?
      A .Paragraph 2. B .Paragraph 3.
      C .Paragraph 4. D .Paragraph 5.
10 .Which f the fllwing is likely t be reversed by a child writing frm right t left?
      A .M. B .C. C .8. D .9.
11 .What can we learn frm the study?
A .Handedness is the main reasn fr mirrr writing.
      B .Right-handed children wn’t write reversed characters.
C .Left-handed children reverse right-riented characters mre ften.
D .Children in the US tend t primarily reverse left-riented characters.
      D
The digital revlutin has arrived. As autmatin becmes ever mre cmmn, even thse prfessins nce thught t be insulated frm technlgical disruptin(扰乱)face an uncertain future. Given that state f uncertainty, Nrtheastern University President Jseph Aun argues that cllege graduates can n lnger be cnfident that the jb they hld will be financially sustainable fr the lng term. Autmatin, lng a threat t lw-skilled jbs, is nw cst-effective in all
repetitive wrk, including high-skilled jbs in health care, law, and research. Thus, fr many the prspect f being replaced by a rbt is mre pressing.
T address this, it falls t higher educatin t prepare graduates fr changes that are
sweeping thrugh the wrld f wrk. But hw can institutins prepare the next generatin, when it's nt clear what prfessins will exist t emply them?
Aun argues that universities must reinvent themselves t address this age f disruptin and t prvide their students with the educatinal fundatin that ensures their emplyability in the
cming decades. T d s, he calls fr higher educatin t fcus n thse features that separate humans frm machines. He named this new framewrk "Humanics".
Aun details a tw-tiered(两层的)structure fr Humanics and explains hw these tiers wrk tgether t develp creativity in students. The first tier cnsists f 21st-century literacies that he argues must be central t any frward-thinking educatinal prgram. In additin t reading,
writing, and arithmetic, Aun argues that all students must be cmpetent in data interpretatin and analysis, technical functins like engineering, and human-centric studies such as design thinking and cmmunicatin.
This first tier f literacies frms the basis fr Aun's secnd tier f cgnitive(认知的)
capacities. Systems thinking, critical thinking, and cultural awareness cnstitute the mind-sets that Aun argues are critical t distinguishing human emplyees frm machines. A student with these mind-sets can slve prblems creatively while making lgical judgments.
Having defined what a rbt-prf educatin must invlve, Aun lks int hw that
educatin shuld be ffered and what clleges and universities must d t meet the needs f a
mdern student bdy. He calls fr higher educatin t fully accept experiential, lifelng learning. He argues that it is nly thrugh rich experiences that students can apply their 21st-century
literacies t cmplex prblems, which will eventually shape their mind-sets. This type f learning must be lifelng because the rapid rate f change that accmpanies autmatin will require that
students cnsistently refresh their skill sets
Aun acknwledges that educatin will never be a cure-all fr sciety's ills. A mre
practical apprach might be t see Humanics nt as a new medicine but rather as a supplement t ur current educatinal system.
In an autmated wrld, t prepare fr the ecnmic disruptin such autmatin may cause, higher educatin must create a generatin f graduates that is liberated t think creatively while cntinuing t functin in mre traditinal capacities. Perhaps that will ensure wrkers and the
universities that educate them are indeed rbt prf.
12 .What des the underlined wrd "insulated" in Paragraph 1 prbably mean?
      A .Generated B .Sheltered C .Prhibited. D .Separated.
13 .What can we learn abut autmatin frm the first tw paragraphs?
A .It has psed a threat t emplyment. B .It has made high-skilled jbs demanding.
C .It helps t fuel the prcess f digitalizatin. D .It prmtes the develpment f new prfessins.
14 .Accrding t Jseph Aun, institutins shuld________.
A .set the trend fr autmatin B .prvide a rbt-prf educatin
C .redefine the framewrk f Humanics D .value cgnitive capacities ver literacies
15 .What des the passage mainly discuss?
A .Where is autmatin leading us? B .What des Humanics mean t universities?
C.Why is it critical t acquire higher educatin?D.Hw can we get ready fr an uncertain future?

Cding is a matter f prblem-slving and pattern recgnitin.

根据第三段“Fr children wh are upset fr sme reasn, Purrble cmes t their rescue.(对于那些因为某种原因而心烦意乱的孩子,Purrble 会来拯救他们)”以及“Kids can then cmfrt their cmpanin with gentle petting, slwing Purrble’s rapid heartbeat t a purr (咕噜
The Leg Grup, intending t make all Leg bricks frm
sustainable surces by 2030, spent the past three years testing different recycled PET plastic

While grwing up, I began t realize utside f ur regin,
sutherners were ften dismissed as uncultured and ignrant. I was ready t leave behind my tiny
twn in West Tennessee, starting a new life and jumping at big chances in sme far-ff cities.(在
Early in ur friendship, her mther asked where I was frm,
assuming it was smewhere up nrth. Then I felt my effrts paid ff and even wanted t ignre
I feared it wuld disqualify me frm being a nted magazine
writer. I wuld have t talk less “cuntry”. S I killed a piece f myself. 所以我抹杀了自己身份的一部分)”,第三段的“She was determined t wrk fr the student newspaper, which was where I spent mst f
my waking hurs(她决心为校报工作,而我醒着的大部分时间都在那里度过的)”以及倒数第二段的“I advised her t be mre like me and hide her signature Manchester accent. I stressed that
thrughut ur cllege years, ften by making fun f her vwel (元音) sunds. I tld myself I was helping her achieve her dream f wrking as a reprter. 故选 A。
通读全文,并结合第二段的“I’m ashamed fit, but I’m mre ashamed that I tried t kill that part f smene else-change Emily’s accent.(我很惭愧,但我更惭愧的是我试图抹杀别人的那部分——改变艾米丽的口音)”和最后一段“Grandma Carlyn used t tell me, “Girl,

memry, but this sticks in my mind with uncmfrtable clarity.
故选A。

根据第三段的“This mirrr-generalizatin prcess leads children aged 5 t knw, frm memry, the shape f the characters, but nt their left/right rientatin.(这种镜像泛化的过程使 5 岁的孩子从记忆中知道汉字的形状,但不知道它们的左右方向)”可知,镜像泛化能帮助孩子了解文字的形式。故选 A。
根据第三段的“Given the features f the prcess—hrizntal mirrr in the visual mdality(考虑到这个过程的特点——视觉模式中的水平镜像)”可知,第三段的这部分信息说明了镜像书写是水平的而不是垂直的。故选 B。
根据第四段的“In cuntries whse primary languages are written in Latin characters — written frm left t right — children mst ften pint them tward the right. This leads them t reverse mainly the left-riented characters: J, Z, 1, 2, 3, 7, and 9. Hwever, when spatial cnstraints cause them t write frm right t left, the children instead reverse the
根据最后一段的“it can be predicted that right-handed children will reverse
characters almst ften as left-handed children, and that–left-handed r right-handed–children will primarily reverse left-riented characters in Western culture. This is because they strictly rient
the characters in the directin f writing.(可以预测,右撇子的孩子几乎会像左撇子的孩子一样经常反转字符,而且在西方文化中,无论是左撇子还是右撇子,他们主要会反转向左的字符。
      倒了。故选 D。

Prhibited 禁止;
      D.Separated 分离。故选 B 项。
由第一段中“Autmatin, lng a threat t lw-skilled jbs, is nw cst-effective in all repetitive wrk, including high-skilled jbs in health care, law, and research. Thus, fr many the prspect f being replaced by a rbt is mre pressing.”(自动化一直以来就是对低技术工种的威胁,现在也在具有重复性的工种中也显得更划算,其中包括在医疗,法律和研究这是高技能的工作。 故选 A 项。
Having defined what a rbt-prf educatin must invlve, Aun lks int hw that educatin shuld be ffered and what clleges and universities must d t meet the

skillful way.(因此,这里有一些巧妙地处理抱怨艺术的方法。)” Our gal is nt t remve cmplaining, but make it mre useful and effective.(我们的目标不是消除抱怨,而是让它更有用、更有效。)
19.根据空前“Wrk ut wh can give yu a hand.(找出谁能帮到你。)”可知我们要找到能帮助自己的人,根据空后“Pick thse wh can empathize with yu r help with yur gal.(选择那些能同情你或帮助你实现目标的人。)”
Dn’t cmplain t the same peple.(不要向同一个人抱怨。)
