Can a machine think? Can a cmputer answer questins in a human-like way? Hw can yu tell if yu are talking t a cmputer?
New cmputer prgrams called language mdels have gtten very gd at cpying peple. These artificial intelligence (AI) prgrams analyze millins f sentences frm bks and websites t learn hidden patterns in language. It’s exciting t see AI making realistic sentences. But there are als prblems with AI-made texts. Peple have used AI-made texts t cheat n tests. It can be really hard t tell if yu’re talking t a persn r a cmputer.
We wanted t learn mre abut AI. S we called up 4,600 participants (参与者) fr a study. We tld the participants that they were using a website where sme peple wrte their wn bigraphies (传记), and sme peple used AI t write theirs. Each participant rated 16 texts, half f which were AI-made. They then rated each text n a 5-pint scale frm “definitely AI” t “definitely human”. The participants were largely unable t tell whether they were peple-made r AI-made. Their answers were wrng abut 49% f the time.
We fund that peple were fllwing a few rules f thumb (经验规则). When peple saw a meaningless r repetitive text, they were mre likely t say it came frm AI. Truly, an AI text was mre likely t have these qualities. But sme rules f thumb gave wrng answers! Peple thught bad grammar and unusual wrd chices appear in an AI text, but they were actually mre likely t cme frm human-made text. And when peple saw cntractins (like “dn’t” r “wn’t”) they thught it was a sign f a human writer, but actually, AI was mre likely t use such wrds.
These are ften wrng, which means that peple are likely t be cheated. A persn sends emails t peple pretending t be smene trustwrthy. The email might say “Hi, I wrk fr yur bank! Yu need t lg in and fix smething in yur accunt.” With AI, the persn culd make different emails t try t pretend ne that’s very believable.
There is a lt f useful infrmatin nline, and a lt f fun things, t. But there are als a lt f ways t get in truble. We can never knw wh is n the ther side when talking t smene n the Internet—it may nt even be a human! That’s why it’s imprtant nt t just rely n yur gut feeling, but check the website URL and authr infrmatin. If smething seems strange, tell yur parents r a respnsible adult abut it!
      27. The researchers did the study t find ut _______.
      A. wh can write bigraphies faster, human r AI
      B. whether AI can answer questins in a human-like way
      C. which bigraphies were better, the human-made r the AI-made
      D. whether we can tell the human-made bigraphies frm the AI-made

      D. AI-made texts are likely t chse the same wrds t express.
      29. What is the writer’s main purpse in writing the passage?
      A. T cmpare AI’s writing with human’s.
      B. T study the reasns f ppularity f AI use.
      C. T imprve ur judgement nline in the age f AI.
      D. T discuss the main characteristics f AI-made writing.
      D
Awe is the feeling we get in the presence f smething vast that challenges ur understanding f the wrld, like lking up at millins f stars in the night sky r shaking hands with a basketball superstar. When peple feel awe, they may use ther wrds t talk abut the experience, such as wnder, amazement r excitement.
We ften think abut awe when we experience uncmmn and extrardinary events, such as viewing a sunrise ver the Grand Canyn r watching Olympians break wrld recrds. But when scientists study peple’s experiences f awe, they suggest awe is als fund in everyday life—watching a gingk tree change frm green t yellw, r seeing a stranger give fd t a hmeless persn.
The feeling f awe affects the way we view urselves. The experience f awe can have a deep influence n ur mental (心理的)health, by allwing us t put ur wrries int perspective. When we are in the presence f smething vast and indescribable, we feel unimprtant, and s d ur wrries. The experience f awe lifts us ut f the cmmn practical thughts that cntrl ur daily lives. and it allws us t have inner peace.
In areas where the ppulatin can easily get t beautiful green spaces, peple reprt greater happiness and gdwill tward thers. A study shwed that lder adults wh tk weekly 15-minute utdr walks in nature fr eight weeks reprted increased psitive emtins and less pain in their daily lives.
Peple in awe are mre likely t shw kindness and feel a greater sense f cnnectin t thers and the wrld. In mments f awe, we direct urselves frm the sense that we are slely (独自地)in cntrl f ur wn future t the feeling we are part f a cmmunity. When we give less attentin t ur wn gals and needs, we are mre likely t be able t ntice thers and what they may be experiencing.
In sum, awe arises when we run int the wnders f life and leads t a disappearing f the self. Stepping utside f neself is a valuable skill. It is pssible t find awe-inspiring mments in all different places. Therefre, actively lk fr the experiences that feed yur wn hunger fr awe, be it thrugh admiring the trees in yur neighbrhd, r seeing the gdness in thers. Take the time t slw dwn and pen yur mind t thse things which yu d nt fully understand. Yu will be the better fr it—and, as yur feelings f awe spread thrugh acts f kindness, s will the rest f us.
      30. What can we learn frm the passage?
      A. Meeting strangers ften brings feelings f excitement.
      B. Even cmmn daily events can lead t the feeling f awe.
      C. Uncmmn events are usually related t the beauty f nature.
      D. Greater happiness can result frm giving urselves mre attentin.
      31. The wrds “put ur wrries int perspective” in Paragraph 3 prbably mean “________”.
      A. get used t ur wrries cmpletely
      B. deal with ur wrries as sn as pssible
      C. share ur wrries with family and clse friends
      D. understand the actual imprtance f ur wrries
      32. A persn wh has just experienced awe will prbably ________.
      A. readily reach ut t thse in needB. reprt feeling mre self-imprtant
      C. separate himself frm the rest f a grupD. be unwilling t wrk with thers n a team
      33. What is the writer’s main purpse in writing this passage?
      A. T shw us ways t understand what awe is.B. T explain t us hw awe can imprve health.
      C. T encurage us t be ready t experience awe.D. T advise us t free urselves frm the fear f awe.
