My dad was very fnd f Gaelic ftball. He wuld g t every game within a hundred miles. My mther insisted that he take me alng. As a hyperactive ten-year-ld, I had n interest in Gaelic ftball. Hwever, I did lve the adventure f explring all these strange twns.
One Sunday, I insisted n taking ur dg Rebel, a lng-eared basset hund (巴色特猎犬) wh had never been ut f ur twn befre. “Keep him n a leash (牵引绳), “ my father warned. “If he runs ff, yu will never see him again!” Well, that is exactly what happened.
I remember we arrived late at the twn f Prtumna, frty miles away. My father gave me sme mney and tld me t meet him at the entrance after the game. But as I was getting ut f ur car, Rebel jumped ut, running and barking after the crwd ging int the game. With a leash in hand, I ran after him, whistling and shuting. The faster I ran, the faster he ran, and sn he was running alng the banks f a river chasing pheasants (野鸡). I watched him disappear int the tall grass and spent the next few hurs running arund in the mud and calling his name. I ran s far that I gt lst myself. Finally, a farmer fund me and tk me t the plice statin. My father was angry. “What did I tell yu?” But I was t heartbrken t care.

Luckily, my stry had the best ending ever. One week later, Rebel shwed up n ur drstep. I’ll never knw hw he gt hme n his wn, but he was hungry, bruised and cvered in mud, and after having lst the strength t bark, all he culd d was whine.

The best time t start thinking abut pssible careers is while yu are still at schl, befre yu make any chices abut yur further educatin. This, hwever, is nt always easy. Sme peple knw what they want t d frm a yung age, but many thers just have a few ideas buncing arund in their heads.
One f the mst effective ways t get sme insight n a pssible career path is t cmplete a “career aptitude test”. Others fcus mre n asking yu t rate different kinds f wrk scenaris, like wrking as a librarian r a lawyer. Of curse, while cmpleting these srts f tests, it is very imprtant t be hnest—and dn’t wrry—there are n right r wrng answers.
One ppular test asks the participants t grade their preferences fr a variety f wrk tasks. Their answers are then analysed and divided up between six different types f wrk persnalities. The participant is then given a chart shwing their scre fr each type f wrk persnality. The tp three scres are used t make a cde that indicates the participant’s verall wrk persnality. This cde is then used t generate a list f career suggestins.
The career suggestins are als based n yur educatin and experience level, but yu can lk at higher-level careers as well, which is very useful fr high schl students. Fr example, yu culd lk at the basic careers t see what wrk yu might like nw, and then lk at the mre advanced careers s yu knw what yu may like t aim fr in the future. This is a great tl t help plan yur career and let yu knw what targets yu need t reach t get there.
In cnclusin, career aptitude tests are clearly a very useful tl. Hwever, it is imprtant t remember that they are nly meant fr guidance. The secret t a gd career is finding smething that yu are passinate abut. S try a few tests nline and start thinking abut yur future career right nw!

63.What is the best time t think abut yur pssible careers?

      D
The 20th century was a famusly fruitful time fr visins f the future, but the 21st century has failed t inspire them in the same way. Science fictin writer William Gibsn has called this “future fatigue”, pinting ut that we barely ever make reference t the 22nd century.
One reasn is that mst f the ideas f the future that captured peple’s imaginatins in the 20th century have mutated since then. Plastic, fr example, nce billed as the material f the future, has becme an envirnmental and health crisis — its durability and abundance turned dwnsides.
The dminant images f the future that we are presented with at the mment all have lng histries t them. They include space clnizatin, dystpian artificial intelligence and a lnging t bring back the past — but a past that never was. This makes sense given the climate anxiety and dread abut the future felt by many peple. The future has started t feel like it is clsing ff rather than pening ut.
Jean- Luis Missika, a frmer deputy mayr f Paris, has written that “when the future is dark, peple turn t an idealised past, a lst glden age. Nstalgia (怀旧) becmes a refuge against dangers, a ccn against the annunced declines.”
It’s nt that abslutely n new future visins have emerged this century. But it is ntable that n majr, frward-lking future visins have taken rt in ur cllective imaginatin since smartphnes came t dminate ur way f cmmunicating.
I think abut the future fr a living and it is my experience that unified visins f desirable futures can inspire peple t bring abut change. They act as mtivatrs and imaginatin engines. We can use them t visualise the sciety we want and then cmmit t wrk twards that future. Unifying visins f the future are als effectively used in architectural pictures, ads and TV shws; Star Trek has inspired technlgists fr decades.
We’re in a crucial transitin — frm fssil fuels t renewables. This can feel terrifying, but als mtivating. There are plenty f htspts f innvatin tday: lk at the rise f rftp slar energy in Pakistan, where husehlds and small businesses are energetically embarking n the shift t renewables.
But we lack integratin: future thinking that assembles these innvatins tgether int unified visins, puts them in a scial cntext and then cnstructs frm the present int the future.
In my new bk, I lk at fur future visins being develped tday: mre-than-human futures reimagines ur relatinship with nature; degrwth redesigns the rle f the ecnmy; slarpunk recharges cultural innvatin; and the metaverse immerses us in vivid digital wrlds.
But the future desn’t stp with these — there shuld be many mre visins emerging. We need t seed them, grw them and see what shape they take when we tell stries f the future nce again.
66.Why des future fail t attract peple in the 21st century?
A.Because nstalgia replaces hpe fr tmrrw.
B.Because it repeats ld dreams in the 20th century.
C.Because 20th-century visins have turned prblematic.
D.Because climate fear has destryed peple’s cnfidence.
67.What can be learned frm the passage?
A.The energy shift plays a key rle in future thinking.
B.Lking backward helps build strnger cmmunities.
C.The absence f shared visins hlds back future prgress.
D.Rapid technlgical grwth has restred peple’s ptimism.
      68. What des the authr think f unified future visins?
      A. They are mainly reflected in science fictin wrks.
      B. They can encurage peple t wrk fr scial change.
      C. They have been replaced by digital wrld experiences.
      D. They are less effective than individual innvative ideas.
69.Regarding the “future fatigue”, the authr is ________.
      A.cncerned B.critical C.dubtful D.apprving
70.What is the authr’s main purpse in writing this article?
A.T explain why “future fatigue” exists.
B.T prmte her new bk abut future visins.
C.T warn against widespread fatigue twards future.
D.T inspire cllective imaginatin f future narratives.

25 SepNext week I’m travelling t Australia t visit a friend there ver the schl hlidays. I plan t keep this blg t recrd my experiences and what I learn. I have already dne sme research n the cuntry. Lcated t the suth f the equatr, belw many ther cuntries n the glbe, it’s ften infrmally referred t as “dwn under”.
I have als read abut sme icnic sites, such as the Sydney Opera Huse and the Great Ocean Rad, and animals like the cute kalas and kangars. I can’t wait t see all f them! Hwever, as I majr in scial studies, I’m mre interested in meeting peple in Australia and experiencing their culture, fd, and way f life.
1 OctI’m here in Sydney! Since I arrived, my friend has brught me t my first pen-air barbecue and has als shared many different but yummy meals with me, s my first impressins f Australia have been all abut fd! A lt f typical Australian fd, such as the Sunday rast, is riginally British. Bakeries, fast-fd jints, butcher shps, cafes, and restaurants everywhere prvide sme f the premier fd experiences in the wrld. The influence f Asian cultures, n the ther hand, led t the intrductin f bean curd and Asian herbs, alng with Australian versins f fds like the Chinese-inspired dim sim.
3 OctMy friend and I have arrived in Katherine, a twn in Australia’s Nrthern Territry. We’re here t learn abut the life and custms f the Abrigines, wh are native t Australia. The Abriginal ppulatin might be small, but its influence is still visible. Fr example, “Bndi” in “Bndi Beach” is an Abriginal wrd meaning “water breaking ver rcks”. T survive in this vast land n the cean, the Abrigines had t be in clse cntact with nature. This shws in their music, t, which celebrates the natural wrld and the spiritual wrld arund them. Mst f their musical instruments are really just sticks fund n the grund, amng which there is an amazing instrument called the didgerid.
The didgerid is made frm a tree branch which is hllw. T play the didgerid, yu put yur muth n ne end and blw while vibrating yur lips. Unlike a hrn, there are n finger hles. The didgerid player has t change the shape f his muth in rder t change pitch. A skilled player can play fr a lng time withut stpping t breathe. He des this by cntinually breathing in thrugh his nse while breathing ut thrugh his muth and int the didgerid. I tried t learn hw t play it, but after trying fr hurs, I was cnvinced that I culd never make a musical sund with this instrument!
6 OctIt’s almst time fr me t say gdbye t Australia. I’ve enjyed my time here very much. After being here fr a while, my biggest impressin is the cmplicated mix f peples and cultures that make up the natin. Althugh the main cultural influence since 1788 has been Western culture, minrity cultures have als played a part in shaping the unique Australian culture, with many f the new cultural influences cntributed by immigrants. It is said that nw nearly half f all Australian citizens were either brn verseas r have parents wh were brn verseas.
Persnally speaking, what I like mst abut Australia is the peple themselves. They have a straightfrward and free-and-easy attitude twards life, and their friendliness and warmth made me feel at hme wherever I went. After experiencing Australia, I have t say that I agree with the turism slgan: “There’s nthing like Australia.”
Take ntes When yu read a passage, smetimes it helps t take ntes s that yu can better remember and understand what yu have learnt. When yu take ntes, it is gd t write dwn the imprtant facts just using key wrds and ignre many f the small wrds. Yu can als use abbreviatins, such as “Aus” fr “Australia” and “N” fr “nrth”, and use symbls such as “&” fr “and”.
