New research suggests links between ultra-prcessed (超加工) fds — such as chips, many cereals and mst packaged snacks at the grcery stre — and changes in the way we learn, remember and feel.
Many ultra-prcessed fds hit the brain rapidly when we eat them and have a strng effect n its reward system, which is invlved in pleasure, mtivatin and learning.
Thse effects are similar t nes when peple use nictine, alchl and ther addictive drugs, said Ashley Gearhardt, a prfessr f psychlgy at the University f Michigan.
“Peple have a very strng desire fr ultra-prcessed fds and eat them cmpulsively and find they can’t stp eating them,” she said.
