Accrding t a recent glbal study by Elsevier, a majr academic publisher, artificial intelligence (AI) is nw widely used in scientific research and is helping t make studies mre efficient and innvative. The survey, which included mre than 3,200 researchers frm 113 cuntries, shws that AI has becme a key part f the research prcess.
Gemma Hersh, a senir leader at Elsevier, tld China Daily that t supprt researchers in slving glbal challenges, it is imprtant t understand what they truly need. "AI is ne f thse areas," she said.
Chinese researchers are amng the mst active in using AI wrldwide. Abut 69% f them already apply AI in their wrk—higher than the glbal average f 58%. Mrever, 66% f Chinese researchers believe AI can imprve the quality f research. "China is always ahead when it cmes t technlgy and innvatin," Hersh nted.
Hwever, rapid develpment als brings new uncertainties. Only 22% f researchers glbally find AI fully trustwrthy, and 45% feel they lack sufficient AI skills. Hersh pinted ut that researchers want mre transparency(透明度) and reliable infrmatin. T help, Elsevier is ffering AI tls such as Scpus AI and ScienceDirect AI, with mre platfrms n the way. She stressed that "generative AI shuld aid researchers, nt replace them."
As AI becmes mre cmmn in research, maintaining trust and hnesty in studies is crucial. 76% f thse surveyed believe publishers play a key rle in ensuring research integrity. "We build AI tls based n cntent researchers can trust," Hersh explained.
