Fr all the imprtance we place n wrds, whether spken r written, much f the
cmmunicating we d regularly cmes thrugh bdy language. Accrding t pineering research by Dr. Albert Mehrabian, nly 7 percent f the meaning we get frm human cmmunicatin
cmes frm the actual spken wrds used. An additinal 38 percent cmes frm tne f vice while a large 55 percent cmes frm bdy language alne.
Researchers have lng identified that certain kinds f bdy mvements and facial
expressins can cmmunicate infrmatin abut the emtins we happen t be experiencing at the time. But are these emtinal signals shaped by different cultures r are they universal t all
      humans?
A new research article published in the jurnal Emtin attempts t answer this questin thrugh a crss-cultural study. The researchers traveled t Ratanakini, Cambdia t study
members f a distant Kreung hill tribe (部落). Living in Cambdia’s highlands, the Kreung are still largely remte frm the utside wrld except fr ccasinal visitrs. They have yet t be assimilated (被同化) as many ther scieties have been.
In the study, a set f vides were prepared featuring an American wman, displaying three psitive emtins (happiness, lve, and pride) and three negative emtins (anger, fear, and
sadness) using bdy language alne. The effectiveness f these vides was tested using thirty-fur American participants. The vides were then presented t twenty-six Kreung individuals (eleven f whm were female). They were asked t describe the emtins being displayed in their wn
      wrds.
Results shwed that the Kreung participants tended t be quite accurate in guessing which emtins were being presented. The verall accuracy rate was sixty-tw percent thugh their
accuracy in detecting specific emtins such as anger and happiness was far higher. Overall, there was n significant discrepancy between Kreung and American raters in detecting emtins,
thugh American participants did much better in detecting pride and lve.
Still, the study des suggest that bdy mvements can express emtins such as anger, fear, sadness, and lve even fr individuals belnging t different cultures. Emtinal signals reflect
basic human needs and desires that all humans share. Learning mre abut hw basic bilgy and scial factrs shape the way we cmmunicate may well be essential in helping t understand
      urselves better.

10 .What des the underlined wrd “discrepancy” in Paragraph 5 prbably mean?

dwn the path, sme unpleasant smell makes yu catch yur breath. Upn investigatin, yu find that bth f them cme frm flwers — but why d flwers have different smells?
It’s actually part f a strategy that helps flwering plants reprduce themselves and spread their species. Certain scents help these flwers slve a big prblem. Plants flwer t prduce seeds that can g n t becme new plants. T make an available seed, pllen (花粉) frm ne part f

S hw des ne plant get sme ther plants’ pllen? Smetimes gravity helps pllen fall int a place. Smetimes wind carries it. Flwers pllinated by the wind dn’t prduce a scent.
Other flwers are pllinated by birds, bats, r insects carrying the pllen frm ne flwer t
anther. In these cases, the flwers might have a scent which acts as a kind f welcme sign fr just the apprpriate pllinatr.
An rchid grwing in the trpical frest r a rse in yur garden needs t attract a pllinatr t bring pllen frm flwers f the same species. Hwever, there are flwers which lk similar
but are frm ther species. T distinguish itself frm ther flwers, each flwer gives ff a unique scent t draw specific pllinatrs.
Similar t the perfumes (香水) at a department stre cunter, flwer scents are made frm varius kinds f chemicals which evaprate (蒸发) easily and flat thrugh the air. Sme factrs such as the amunt f the chemical and its interactin with ther chemicals are nt as imprtant as the type f the chemical when it cmes t giving the flwer its unique scent. The scent f a rse
may cnsist f as many as 400 different chemicals.
12 .What des the big prblem f flwers refer t?
A .Having very few pllinatrs. B .Struggling t prduce enugh seeds.
C .Being unable t prduce a sweet scent. D .Having difficulty in self-pllinatin.
13 .Why d flwers f different species give ff different scents?
A .T clean the air. B .T attract the right pllinatrs.
C .T make the envirnment pleasant. D .T prtect themselves against destryers.
14 .Which factr plays a bigger rle in creating the special scent f flwers?
A .The type f chemicals. B .The quantity f chemicals.
C .The elements f chemicals. D .The interactin with ther chemicals.
15 .What wuld be the best title fr the text?
A .Hw d flwers prduce seeds? B .Why d flwers smell differently?
C .Why d plants set ff unique scents? D .Hw d pllinatrs distinguish plants?

      【导语】这是一篇说明文。主要说明了课堂辩论有益学生成长, 但成功组织不易。文章从选题、介绍知识点、确定流程、制定规则四方面给出建议,以帮助顺利开展课堂辩论。

class and it can help students develp varius skills.(有目的性地开展课堂辩论能让学生参与到课堂主题中来,并且还能帮助学生提升多种能力)”以及后文“Because debating is a unique

It depends n students’ age, level and whether it’s a cmpetitive debate r simply a classrm debate t get students thinking and talking abut a particular issue.(怎么?这取决于学生的年龄、水平, 以及是参加竞争性的辩论还是仅仅在课堂上进行讨论,目的是让学生产生思考并就某个特定问题展开交流)”以及后文“Intrduce the debate’s tpic. Divide

      rebuttal (辩驳). Clse statements.
It’s nt easy fr students t stand up befre the class, express their pinins, and have thers judge what they say. S let all students remember the fllwing requirements.
Speak plitely. Dn’t interrupt thers when they’re speaking. Be pen-minded. Keep t yur
