As a yung girl grwing up in France, Sarah Turni dreamed f becming a leader wh culd make the wrld a better place. Her passin t help thers was awakened when, frm the age f nine, she accmpanied her Tunisian father t his birthplace in. the east f the cuntry during hlidays. There she rganized hmewrk clubs and activities fr children. Tumi witnessed first-hand the destructive effect f desertificatin. “Within 10 years rich farmers became wrse ff, and in 10 years frm nw they will be pr. I wanted t stp the Sahara Desert in its tracks.” A decrease in average rainfall and an increase in the severity f drughts have led t an estimated 75 percent f Tunisia's agricultural lands being threatened by desertificatin.
Turni recgnized that farming practices needed t change. She is cnfident that small land areas can bring large returns if farmers are able t adapt by planting sustainable crps, using new technlgies fr water treatment and fcusing n natural prducts and fertilizers rather than chemicals.
In 2017, Tumi cnslidated her dream t fight the desert. She mved t Tunisia, and set up a prgramme named Acacias fr All t put her sustainable farming philsphy int actin. “I want t shw yung peple in rural areas that they can create pprtunities where they are. Nbdy is better able t understand the impact f desertificatin and climate change than smebdy wh is living with n access t water.”
By September 2021, mre than 130, 000 acacia trees had been planted n 20 pilt farms, with farmers recrding a 60 percent survival rate. Tumi estimates that sme 3 millin acacia trees are needed t prtect Tunisia's farmland. She expects t plant 1 millin trees by 2025. The number f fish caught just utside a recently expanded marine prtected area in Hawaii has risen. It is a sign that quadrupling(四倍) the size f the reserve in 2016 may have bsted fish ppulatin in the regin.
When the Marine Natinal Mnument arund Hawaii was enlarged t 1,510,000 square kilmeters, marine cnservatinists arund the wrld were verjyed.
Fishers may have felt differently, hwever, as fishing inside the area is nt allwed. Yet by creating a space fr dwindling tuna(金枪鱼) ppulatins t recver, supprters argued, the reserve wuld benefit fisheries as well. As ppulatins inside the reserve bundaries steadily increased, they predicted, the fish wuld spill ver int the surrunding areas, increasing the amunt f tuna available t catch.
Prving that is tricky, hwever, as tuna can't be cunted directly. Their numbers may rise r fall fr a variety f reasns ther than the expansin f a reserve. But the new study, published in Science this week, strngly suggests the number f fish caught just utside the MPA is higher nw than it used t be. Alan Friedlander, chief scientist fr the Natinal Gegraphic Sciety's Pristine Seas prject, calls the study a “very careful and strict test f spillver frm marine prtected areas.”
Imprtantly, says Jhn Lynham, an envirnmental ecnmist at the University f Hawaii and ne f the study's authrs, the increase in tuna catches near the reserve held up even when lking at the average numbers caught by particular fishers. This shws the effect is nt due t mre effective : crews nw fishing lcal waters, he explains. T accunt fr effrt, catch numbers were divided(除) by the ever-increasing number f fishing hks in the area.
Lynham and clleagues fund the catch per hk increased ver the 10 years f the study. Fishers were catching n average six mre yellwfin and five mre bigeye tuna per year after the expansin than befre.
“That last ne, especially, was a surprise,” says Lynham,“because it is ecnmically much mre imprtant, and there were fewer indicatins f an increase.”
      28. Which statement is true accrding t the findings?
      A. The number f fish caught quadruples the size f that in 2016
      B. The rising number f fish caught is a sign f a well-reserved area.
C Fish catching utside the reserve expanded the marine prtected area.
      D. Enlarging the reserve may cntribute t the increase in fish ppulatin.
      29. Hw did fishers feel when the reserve was expanded?
      A. They felt jyful. B. They felt different.
      C. They felt unpleasant. D. They felt surprised.
      30. Hw d the researchers prve the tuna ppulatin has increased?
      A. By figuring the average catch per hk in the area.
      B. By summing up the catch f mre effective crews.
      C. By lking at the numbers caught by particular fishers.
      D. By detecting the number f tuna ppulatin in the surrunding area.
      31. Which can be a suitable title fr the text?
      A. Tuna Ppulatin Embraces a Bst.
      B. Marine Prtected Areas Help Fisheries.
      C. Lcal Fisheries Hld a Prmising Future.
      D. Tuna Ppulatin Can Be Cunted Scientifically.

I had t say smething after reading The Anxius Generatin. It is ging t sell well, because Jnathan Haidt is telling a scary stry abut children's develpment many parents are led t believe. Hwever, the bk's repeated suggestin that digital technlgies are. rewiring ur children's brains and causing the epidemic f mental illness is unsupprted by science. Wrse, the rude prpsal that scial media is t blame might distract us frm effectively respnding t the real causes f the current mental-health crisis in yung peple.
Researchers have searched fr the effects suggested by Haidt. Our effrts have prduced a mix f n, small and mixed assciatins. Mst data are crrelative. When assciatin s ver time are fund, they suggest nt that scial-media use predicts r causes depressin, but that yung peple wh already have mental-health prblems use such platfrms mre ften r in different ways frm their healthy peers.
We are nt alne here. Several analyses and systematic review s centralize n the same message. An analysis dne in 72 cuntries shws n cnsistent r measurable assciatins between well-being and scial media glbally. Mrever, studies frm sme authrities ends n evidence f intense changes assciated with digital-technlgy use.
As a psychlgist studying children's and adlescents' mental health, I appreciate parents' frustratin and desire fr simple answers. As a parent f adlescents, I wuld als like t identify a simple surce fr the pain this generatin is reprting. There are, hwever, n simple answers. The beginning and develpment f mental disrders are driven by a cmplex set f genetic and envirnmental factrs.
Mre yung peple are talking penly abut their mental-health struggles than ever befre. But insufficient services are available t ad dress their needs. In the United States, there is, n average, ne schl psychlgist fr every 1,119 students. We have a generatin in crisis and in desperate need f the best f what science and evidence-based slutins can ffer. Unfrtunately, ur time is being spent telling stries that are unsupprted by research and that d little t supprt yung peple wh need, and deserve, mre.
      32. What is presented in The Anxius Generatin?
      A. Scary stries affect children's brains.
      B. Parents are respnsible fr children's health.
      C. Teens' mental illness results frm screen time.
      D. The epidemic f mental illness is unavidable.
      33. What des “the same message ” underlined in paragraph 3 refer t?
      A. Many cuntries d research in mental health.
      B. Well-being and scial media are clsely related.
      C. The yung are trapped in the mental-health crisis.
      D. Scial media dn't necessarily cause mental illness.
      34. What is implied in the last paragraph?
      A. Effective actins need t be taken. B. Psitive stries shuld be shared.
      C. Financial supprt needs t be prvided. D. Brader research shuld be dne.
      35. What is the authr's purpse in writing the text?
      A. T suggest ways t help thse in need. B. T encurage parents t brave the crisis.
      C. T recmmend a newly-published bk. D. T give a vice t children's mental issues.

On a ht September afternn, Peter and his friend Isabel were n their way t the library. When they passed by Tubman Park, Isabel suggested cutting thrugh it t get t the library. Finally, she recmmended them t g t the City Hall t vice their cncerns.
The next day, Isabel and Peter went int the building f the City Hall but were met with an impatient fficer. They were infrmed that the city culdn't help with their prblem due t a tight budget. Discuraged, they left and turned t Mrs. Evans fr help.
