wrd can be used nly nce. Nte that there is ne phrase mre than yu need.
Things I've Learned frm My First Year f High Schl
I just finished my first year f high schl, and it has been dramatically different frm middle
schl. High schl has brught me s many different experiences. Sme I am grateful (17)
yet sme have nt been beneficial. Hwever, all f them have taught me s many
different things, and I wuld nt have been able t survive my first year f high schl withut
them. The things I have learned (18) (be) s helpful t me and can als relate t things
      utside f schl.
      1. Yu're expected t demnstrate maturity and respnsibility
High schl teachers wn't necessarily "hld yur hand" as much as middle schl teachers
did. Yur teachers may mve faster thrugh lessns. (19) yu have questins r meet
with harsh challenges, it's imprtant t speak up. If speaking up makes yu nervus at first, yu
can start by using email (20) (build) yur cmfrt level and cnfidence.
High schl teachers enfrce higher standards, and mst dn't tlerate sme f the behavirs
that were acceptable in middle schl. Again, the gal is t prepare yu fr cllege and real life.
(21), expectatin seems tugh at first, remember that yu're learning
      helpful and imprtant life skills.
      2. Find ut wh yur true friends are
Genuine friends are friends that yu (22) tell everything t and they will nt tell
anyne else withut yur permissin. They are als there whenever yu need them, whether that is
t rant(怒吼) (23) yu just need a shulder t cry n. When yu find yur true friends
stick with them. The thing abut friends is: quality ver quantity.
T be hnest, high schl is nt easy at first, but with time, yu will get t appreciate and
treasure arund yur experiences. The memry will never fade, because it is (25)
(memrable) jurney. I have learned s much during my first year f high schl,
and I am sure that I (26) (learn) a lt mre.
      Sectin B
Directins: Cmplete the fllwing passage by using the wrds in the bx. Each wrd can nly be used nce. Nte that there is ne wrd mre than yu need.
A multicultural persn is smene wh is deeply cnvinced that all cultures are equally gd, enjys learning the rich variety f cultures in the wrld, and mst likely has been expsed t mre than ne culture in his r her lifetime.
Yu cannt mtivate anyne, especially smene f anther culture, until that persn has accepted yu. A multilingual salespersn can explain the advantages f a prduct in ther languages, but a multicultural salespersn can mtivate freigners t buy it. That's a critical 27 . N ne likes freigners wh are arrgant(自大的) abut their wn culture. The truble is mst peple are arrgantly mncultural withut being aware f it and even thse wh are can't hide it. Freigners sense mncultural arrgance at nce and set up their wn cultural barriers, which may effectively 28 any attempt by the mncultural persn t mtivate them.
Multiculturalism is a(an) 29 that has been neglected t ften in hiring managers fr internatinal psitins. Even if yur cmpany is nt a multinatinal ne, chances are yu're in tuch with freign custmers r manufacturers. D yu have the right emplyee t build up the 30 ?
Fr 20-dd years, I've run an executive-search firm frm Brussels. When clients ask us t find the right persn fr a new pan-Eurpean sales r management psitin, I start by asking them t specify the qualificatins their 31 candidate wuld have. Mst ften they list the same qualities they wuld want fr a dmestic psitin, but with the 32 requirement that the new manager be fluent enugh in English, German and French t cpe with faxes and email. It smetimes takes me hurs t persuade clients that the linguistic (语言的) abilities they see as crucial are nt enugh.
Of curse, it's far mre difficult t 33 candidates multiculturalism than it is t check their language skills — but it's als a far mre imprtant 34 t success. I remember a cmpany that asked me t check ut a salesman they were planning t send t Mexic. He'd studied Spanish, and had grwn up in New Yrk City — the mst 35 diverse place in America. But when I interviewed him, he turned ut t have n cncept f the great pride Mexicans tk in their culture, and mrever he was 36 abut Mexican restaurants and markets being dirty and unsafe. I rejected him just as Mexican buyers wuld have if he'd been selected fr the jb.

Because service learning is time - cnsuming, students spend (46) ______ time studying the cre subjects. Secnd, they believe that frcing students t wrk withut (47) ______ ges against the law. United States gvernment health fficials are mving frward with a plan designed t keep electrnic cigarettes ut f the hands f yung peple. The plan wuld restrict sales f mst
flavred e - cigarettes at drug stres, gasline statins and ther businesses that sell them.
The U.S. Fd and Drug Administratin, r FDA, first prpsed the new rules last Nvember. They are the latest gvernment effrt t fight what health fficials call an epidemic (泛滥) f yung peple using the devices.

Anti - smking activists have questined whether the new FDA restrictins will be enugh t stp the rise in teenage vaping. The FDA has little pwer ver hw stres sell vaping prducts. Instead, critics say the agency is largely telling cmpanies t self - plice.
Erika Sward is with the American Lung Assciatin, which has called n the FDA t remve all flavred e - cigarettes frm the market. Sward said the FDA's decisin t leave ut three flavrs is a mistake. Studies shw thse flavrs are used by nearly half f teenagers wh vape.
The new rules are expected t heavily affect small businesses. Grups representing thse stres have fught against the plan since it was first prpsed last Nvember. Fd and ideas abut cking it have been passing frm ne part f the wrld t anther since the Stne Age Revlutin began in the Middle East. They were part f the spread f civilizatin, thugh since peple change their tastes in painting and architecture much faster than their tastes in fd, knwledge f what was eaten is far less than knwledge f the huses that were lived in r the clthes that were wrn. Ckery bks were few befre the 17th century, and hw clse are the general eating habits at any perid t the ckery bks published?
Changes wed mre t the mvement f peple, f animals, f merchants, f rich landwners, than t bks. Befre canals, railways, gd rads, mst peple ate what culd be prduced within a thirty - mile area. Prts did better, f curse, if they were n a rute. Fr mst peple fd was basically reginal fd and there was nt always enugh f it either. Even in gd areas, pr cuntry peple had little t eat since mst f what they prduced went fr sale at lcal markets. Only rich men culd buy expensive seeds t grw unusual vegetables, r emply gardeners wh
understd hw t grw fine fruit unfamiliar t the place they lived in, r affrd cks trained elsewhere t prvide variety at mealtimes.
The undubted advantages f present - day large - scale manufacture and rganizatin – wnderful cleanliness, quick distributin, prices that allw far mre peple than ever in the past t satisfy their hunger – have nt s far cme t us tgether with an excellent quality f flavr. Mrever, in a wrld where pssibilities are endless, business seems t limit chice beynd a certain level. Of the 300 varieties f pears that listed by ne French 17th-century gardener – even thugh he had t admit that nly 30 f them were really wrth eating – nly abut half are nw prduced in Eurpe.

Music is nice peple seem t say but nt imprtant. When students and parents are asked t rate subjects accrding t their imprtance the music arts are unavidably at the bttm f the list. T ften music is viewed as mere entertainment but certainly nt an educatin which shuld be first taken int accunt. 62. In fact, music educatin is beneficial and imprtant fr all
      students.
63 . Because music is an expressin f the beings wh create it, it reflects their thinking and values as well as the scial envirnment it came frm. Rck music stands fr a lifestyle just as surely as des a Schubert sng. The jazz influence that Gerge Gershwin and ther musicians intrduced int their music is bviusly American because it came frm American musical traditins. Music expresses ur character and values. It gives us identity as a sciety.
Music prvides a kind f feeling that cannt be acquired any ther way. _______. The arts explre the emtinal meaning f the same phenmenn. We need every pssible way t discver and respnd t ur wrld fr ne simple but pwerful reasn: N ne way can get it all.
The arts are frms f thught as pwerful in what they cmmunicate as mathematical and scientific symbls. 65 . They are the languages f civilizatin thrugh which we express ur fears ur curisities ur hungers ur discveries ur hpes. The arts are ways we give frm t ur ideas and imaginatin s that they can be shared with thers. When we d nt give children access t an imprtant way f expressing themselves such as music we take away frm them the meanings that music expresses.
