When Clara tk ver her grandfather’s Brklyn bkshp in 2018, the first thing she remved wasn’t the utdated stcks, but the WiFi ruter. Regulars prtested. A lawyer threatened t transfer his $500 mnthly cffee budget elsewhere. “Bks deserve the same undivided attentin we demand frm lvers,” she tld me, plishing the brass cunter her grandfather installed in 1967.
Her stubbrnness seemed self-destructive as stres arund them clsed dwn. Yet smething unusual happened. By 2020, the shp had becme an unfficial sanctuary (庇护所). Teenagers sprawled n Persian carpets with Dstevsky, their phnes frgtten in backpacks. A retired judge started hsting Saturday petry circles where participants recited verses frm memry — a practice Clara called “brain tatting.”
The pandemic shuld have been their death knell. Instead, when Clara launched “Survival Bundles” (handpicked bks with handwritten ntes), rders pured in frm tech executives exhausted by Zm. A Silicn Valley CEO admitted these were the first physical bks he’d tuched since graduate schl. “We’re starving fr texture,” Clara nted, wrapping parcels in recycled paper.
Last winter, I fund her battling a new threat. A prperty develper had purchased their building, tripling the rent vernight. What unflded next culd fill a nvel: custmers rganized prtests n the sidewalk; the judge represented them fr free; even the lawyer wh nce threatened t leave funded their legal defense.
In the curt, Clara quted Melville: “We cannt live nly fr urselves. A thusand fibers cnnect us.” The judge — her petry circle regular — prnunced the rent increase unreasnable. Nw their shp displays this judgment alngside signed first editins, prf that sme bnds still resist digital disruptin.

根据第一段中“When Clara tk ver her grandfather’s Brklyn bkshp in 2018, the first thing she remved wasn’t the utdated stcks, but the WiFi ruter.(2018年,当Clara接手祖父在布鲁克林的书店时,她首先撤掉的不是过时的存货,而是WiFi路由器)”和““Bks deserve the same undivided attentin we demand frm lvers,” she tld me, plishing the brass cunter her grandfather installed in 1967.(“书籍值得我们像要求爱人那样给予全心全意的关注,”她告诉我,一边擦拭着她祖父1967年安装的黄铜柜台)”可知,Clara撤掉WiFi路由器,认为书籍值得全心全意的关注,即她强调专注阅读。故选D。
根据第三段中“The pandemic shuld have been their death knell. Instead, when Clara launched “Survival Bundles” (handpicked bks with handwritten ntes), rders pured in frm tech executives exhausted by Zm.(疫情本应是他们的death knell。相反,当Clara推出“生存套装”(精心挑选的书籍并附上手写笔记)时,来自Zm视频会议中疲惫不堪的科技公司高管的订单纷至沓来)”可知,疫情本应是书店的终结,但Clara的创新策略却让书店焕发生机。由此可知,death knell意为“终结的标志”。故选C。

27.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“In the curt, Clara quted Melville: “We cannt live nly fr urselves. A thusand fibers cnnect us.” The judge — her petry circle regular — prnunced the rent increase unreasnable. Nw their shp displays this judgment alngside signed first editins, prf that sme bnds still resist digital disruptin.(在法庭上,Clara引用了梅尔维尔的话:“我们不能只为自己而活。千丝万缕将我们联系在一起。”法官——她的诗歌圈常客——宣布租金上涨不合理。现在,他们的书店将这份判决与签名初版书一起展示,证明有些联系仍然能够抵御数字时代的冲击)”可知,文章通过Clara接手并经营书店的经历,展示了社区和人际联系在应对现代挑战中的重要作用。故选B。

AI-pwered tls are revlutinizing medical diagnsis, but their rise has sparked ethical debates. A recent study shws AI algrithms (算法) can detect certain cancers with 97% accuracy — surpassing human dctrs in sme cases, such as identifying tiny lung ndules (微小肺结节) in CT scans that might slip past even seasned radilgists. Hwever, critics warn that ver-reliance n AI culd cmprmise patient care, as machines lack the ability t navigate the cmplex, human side f medicine.
“AI excels at analyzing data, but it lacks the empathy f a human dctr,” says Dr. Lisa Chen. She recunts a case where an AI system recmmended aggressive treatment, failing t cnsider the patient’s emtinal state: an 82-year-ld with ther health issues wh feared the treatment wuld rb her f her remaining quality f life. “A dctr knws when t balance lgic with cmpassin,” she adds, nting that such cnversatins are vital t respecting patient autnmy.
Anther cncern is bias in AI training data. Mst algrithms are trained n samples frm Western ppulatins, which may nt reflect diverse ethnic grups. Fr example, tls designed t detect skin cnditins ften misjudge symptms n darker skin tnes, as training sets include far fewer images f nn-Caucasian skin. This culd lead t misdiagnses fr minrity patients, widening existing healthcare gaps. Researchers are nw wrking t diversify datasets, but prgress is slw due t strict privacy regulatins and limited crss-brder data sharing.
Despite these challenges, AI’s ptential is undeniable. It culd extend healthcare access t remte areas where specialists are rare and reduce medical errrs by crss-referencing patient histries with vast medical databases. The key, experts say, is t establish clear guidelines fr AI’s rle—ensuring it cmplements, rather than replaces, human judgment. “Think f AI as a clleague, nt a replacement,” says ethicist Dr. Michael Zhang. “Tgether, we can achieve better utcmes fr patients by cmbining technlgical precisin with human care.”
28.What advantage des AI have ver human dctrs in medical diagnsis?
A.Better cmmunicatin with patients.B.Higher accuracy in detecting certain diseases.
C.Strnger ability t handle cmplex cases.D.Lwer cst in lng-term treatment.
29.Why des the authr mentin the case f Dr. Lisa Chen?
A.T prve AI’s superirity in treatment plans.
      B.T shw AI’s lack f emtinal understanding.
C.T criticize dctrs fr relying n AI systems.
D.T emphasize the imprtance f medical ethics.
30.What can be inferred frm the passage?
A.The authr fully supprts AI replacing human dctrs.
B.The authr believes AI has mre weaknesses than strengths.
C.The authr recgnizes AI’s limitatins in certain aspects.
D.The authr thinks AI will sn slve all medical prblems.
31.What is the main idea f the passage?
A.AI is replacing human dctrs in medical field.
B.AI and human dctrs can’t wrk tgether effectively.
C.AI’s bias in data leads t misdiagnses wrldwide.
D.AI brings bth benefits and challenges t healthcare.
      【答案】28.B 29.B 30.C 31.D

根据第二段中的 ““AI excels at analyzing data, but it lacks the empathy f a human dctr,” says Dr. Lisa Chen. She recunts a case where an AI system recmmended aggressive treatment, failing t cnsider the patient’s emtinal state: an 82-year-ld with ther health issues wh feared the treatment wuld rb her f her remaining quality f life. “A dctr knws when t balance lgic with cmpassin,” she adds, nting that such cnversatins are vital t respecting patient autnmy.(“人工智能擅长分析数据,但缺乏人类医生所具备的同理心。”
根据第一段“Hwever, critics warn that ver-reliance n AI culd cmprmise patient care, as machines lack the ability t navigate the cmplex, human side f medicine.(然而,批评人士警告称,过度依赖人工智能可能会影响患者护理,因为机器缺乏应对医学中复杂人文层面的能力。)” 根据第二段中的 “AI excels at analyzing data, but it lacks the empathy f a human dctr,” says Dr. Lisa Chen. She recunts a case where an AI system recmmended aggressive treatment, failing t cnsider the patient’s emtinal state: an 82-year-ld with ther health issues wh feared the treatment wuld rb her f her remaining quality f life. “A dctr knws when t balance lgic with cmpassin,” she adds, nting that such cnversatins are vital t respecting patient autnmy.(“人工智能擅长分析数据,但缺乏人类医生所具备的同理心。” 根据第三段中的“Anther cncern is bias in AI training data. Mst algrithms are trained n samples frm Western ppulatins, which may nt reflect diverse ethnic grups. Fr example, tls designed t detect skin cnditins ften misjudge symptms n darker skin tnes, as training sets include far fewer images f nn-Caucasian skin.

If yu can make it there, g fr it and yu’re way ahead f the game,” Hffinan said.
The device uses pumps that absrb in carbn dixide which is heated t 800℃and prcessed t separate the carbn and xygen. Carbn mnxide (一氧化碳) is emitted as waste while the pure xygen is left behind.
Expanding the device t supprt a human missin t Mars presents challenges. It is needed t run cntinuusly fr 400 days, a leap frm the ne-hur tests and its inner temperature shuld be cntrlled stably. Mxie has prved t endure the extreme cnditins n Mars, hwever, and the team plans t assess the machine’s limits in the cming mnths when atmsphere is thick and carbn dixide levels are high. They say they just want t set everything as high as they dare and make as much xygen as they can.

Opinin n High Schl Students’ Using AI t Write Essays
      Hell, everyne!
Our grup believes that using AI t write essays has bth advantages and disadvantages.
While it can prvide quick ideas, ver-reliance may hinder students’ thinking skills. What matters mst is learning t express ideas independently. We suggest that students use AI as a tl fr inspiratin, nt answers. Teachers shuld als set clear rules, like requiring students t explain their essays afterward. This ensures that AI helps rather than replaces learning.
In cnclusin, we think that AI can be useful if used wisely. What cunts is maintaining the balance between technlgy and self-imprvement.
      Thank yu!
