Fr its prey (猎物), a cne snail is a deadly threat — its tiny size hides enugh venm (毒液) in ne sting t kill. Surprisingly, that same venm may als have medical value, especially in helping peple sleep.
Previus research has shwn that txins frm cne snails can be used as painkillers. Recently, Indian scientists Jayaseelan B.Franklin and R. P. Rajesh discvered that sme f these txins may als cause sleep. They studied a rarely researched species, the cbweb cne snail (Cnus aranesus), which lives in the Gulf f Mannar, and searched its venm fr useful cmpunds.
Cne snail venm cntains hundreds f small mlecules called peptides (肽), knwn as cntxins (芋螺毒素). Franklin and Rajesh islated 14 peptides and selected five fr further study. After the substances were purified, they were given t lab mice. The results were fast and surprising: within tw t fur minutes, the mice fell asleep and remained s fr abut tw hurs. Higher dses led t lnger sleep. Accrding t Franklin, the mice nly fully returned t nrmal activity after nine r ten hurs.
These findings are imprtant because they suggest pssible treatments fr human sleep prblems such as insmnia and sleep apnea. “Finding the mechanism that caused this effect n the mice will pen up future applicatins including drug develpment,” says Franklin.
Cne snails hunt slwly but rely n pwerful txins t stp prey instantly. Their venm is delivered thrugh a harpn-like tth that blcks nrmal cellular functin, leaving the victim unable t mve. Scientists have lng been interested in cne snail venm, and ver 100 cntxins are currently being tested fr treating diseases including cancer pain, epilepsy, and Parkinsn’s disease. In 2004, a cne snail-based painkiller strnger than mrphine was apprved fr medical use.
With arund 800 cne snail species, each prducing hundreds f unique peptides, researchers believe there is still much t discver.

Side hustles are central t Gen Z’s identity, ffering creative r activist utlets that main jbs cannt supply. Fr many, the “day jb” simply finances the “passin prject”— as ne Glassdr cmmunity member put it: “I always jke that I dn’t dream f labr... If peple were truly passinate abut their jb, it wuldn’t pay anything. Passin is fr yur five-nine after the nine-five.”
When Gen Zers d mve int management, Glassdr finds that they’re rewriting the traditinal textbk. Gen Z is recnsidering what it means t be successful at wrk in this mment. They’re nt rejecting ambitin — they’re redirecting it tward sustainable career paths that priritize bth financial security and persnal fulfillment.
12.Why is Daniel Zha quted in paragraph 3?

B. T cnfirm the accuracy f the reprt.
C. T raise awareness f a wrrying trend.
D. T ffer anther perspective n the survey.
13.What d we knw abut Gen Z at wrk?
A. They value titles ver persnal time.
B. They avid cperating with clleagues.
C. They seek guidance frm senir staff.

A. High pay and grand titles.
B. Shrt hurs and easy wrk.
C. Persnal identity and flexibility.
D. Benefits and wrking cnditins.
