On Nvember 1, 2025, I began a new jurney f rediscvery thrugh dance, perfrming in frnt f ver 200 peple at a schl welcme party. It was a mment f reflectin n hw I had let scial pressure change me and the beginning f a prmise t never turn my back n dancing again.
I was nce a yung girl wh did endless ballet turns at hme and in frnt f peple. Hwever, as I started schl, my relatinship with dance began t change. Dancing was nly “cl” if yu tk extra classes and became skilled. Wanting t fit in and avid judgment, I pushed my lve fr dance aside. I cnvinced myself that dancing wasn’t smething I culd enjy penly anymre.
On Octber 22, 2025, the dance team needed an extra persn fr a welcme party perfrmance in ne week. I didn’t knw what drve me t raise my hand. Part f me was hesitant, afraid f dancing in frnt f a ptentially judgmental crwd, but smething inside pushed me frward. Maybe it was that yung girl within me, the ne wh lved t dance withut fear, urging me t say “yes.” We were dancing t a fast-paced sng, and I had nly a week t learn the dance while my teammates had been practicing fr tw mnths. Yet, I pured everything int learning it. Practicing was anything but easy. The pressure f keeping up with my team weighed heavily n me. Thankfully, my teammates were patient and supprtive. Even stressed, I kept ging, practicing every day fr hurs.
On perfrmance day, anxiety filled my mind. Wuld they ntice missteps r laugh at me? But as I stepped int the sptlight, a wave f jy washed ver me, and I saw clearly hw much I had let scial pressure hld me back. I realized it was never wrth it t meet thers’ expectatins at the cst f yur wn jy.

There are numerus nline persnality quizzes that claim t determine whether yur left r right brain is mre dminant. Left-brained peple are suppsedly lgical and excel at language and math while right-brained peple are mre imaginative, emtinally intelligent and skilled with spatial reasning. There’s just ne prblem: That’s nt hw brains wrk.
Ppular science enthusiasts srt f tk this idea and spread it far and wide and it’s becme wven in ppular culture nw and wn’t disappear anytime sn.
Despite this enduring belief, there’s n such thing as being “right-brained” r “left-brained”. Whether yu’re smene wh tends mre twards creativity r lgic has nthing t d with ne hemisphere (半球) f yur brain being dminant ver the ther. But the actual science f hw the tw halves f ur brains wrk tgether is smetimes stranger than fictin.
The human brain is divided int tw hemispheres, the left and right. In all vertebrate (脊椎的) animals, the right hemisphere cntrls the left side f the bdy and vice versa. And scientists have lng knwn, thanks t the behavirs f patients wh suffered brain injuries, that different areas f the brain d different things.
But many scientists struggled with this idea, because the very suggestin that the left and right halves f the brain perate differently disrupted the idea that nature tends tward perfect symmetry (对称).
Wrk by neurscientists (神经系统科学家) has revealed the imprtance f different hemispheres f the brain fr different activities. Hwever, their research quickly saw sme misinterpretatins in the general public: Sme presumed creative peple must be right-brained and lgical peple left-brained. It is prven that nt nly is persnality unrelated t the different halves f the brain, but peple aren’t really right — r left-brained t begin with. The idea that we have left-dminant peple and right-dminant peple, and that this is related t persnality, is categrically false. That’s never been supprted in the neurscience cmmunity. Neurscientists dn’t believe that and never have.
What scientists learned is that there are really imprtant differences between the left hemisphere and the right hemisphere. It’s just that they have nthing t d with persnality r whether cgnitive strategy is mre lgical r free spirited r creative. While researchers have shwn the limitatins f hw the hemispheres f ur brains influence ur lives, it’s nt difficult t understand the appeal f such ideas. Peple are endlessly fascinated by themselves and their friends, and the subtle differences in hw peple think abut the wrld are really meaningful t them. When yu cme up with an nline quiz that tells us smething abut urselves, we are drawn t that. It’s irresistible. But yu have t take it with an enrmus grain f salt.
      28. What d numerus persnality quizzes nline claim they are able t d?
      A. Distinguish between the tw hemispheres f ne’s brain.
      B. Determine whether ne is left-brained r right-brained.
      C. Tell if ne is mre f a linguist r f a mathematician.
      D. Figure ut hw ne’s brain perfrms different tasks.
      29. What des the underlined wrd “wven” in paragraph 2 mean?
      A. Scattered.B. Lifted.C. Integrated.D. Hidden.
30 Why did many scientists disagree that different brain areas d different things?
      A. It cntradicts the assumptin that the tw hemispheres f the brain are symmetrical.
      B. It dismisses the view that the universe has been evlving in a cnsistent manner.
      C. It ges against the idea that the left and right halves f the brain wrk tgether.
      D. It disrupts the idea that the right hemisphere f the brain cntrls the left side f the bdy.
      31. What are we advised t d with an nline quiz that tells us smething abut urselves?
      A. Challenge its authrity.B. Examine its riginality.
      C. Evaluate its ppularity.D. Questin its reliability.
      D
A grwing number f cmpanies are building humanid rbts, and these mechanical lk-alikes are starting t appear in car factries and delivery places. Sme businesses even prmise rbts fr hme use. Yet ne big questin still has n answer: Why bther? Why make a rbt in a human shape when it culd take any imaginable frm?
The usual answer is that humanid rbts culd, in principle, handle any physical jbs a persn can. But that “in principle” is ding a lt f heavy lifting. If yu’ve watched vides f these rbts, yu’ll get it — they’re ften clumsy, awkward machines. Sure, the technlgy helping them stand and mve has cme a lng way, but they’re still nt as quick r graceful as humans. Meanwhile, rbts built fr a single jb — like an arm shifting gds between cnveyr belts (传送带) — are nw cmmnplace. Designed with ne purpse, they d it really well, unlike humanid rbts, which aim t d everything but ften master nthing.
Anther argument is that a human shape makes it easier fr peple t wrk with r cntrl rbts. This hlds sme water, especially since many f these machines still need skilled human peratrs. Cmpanies ften avid admitting this, calling it a shrt-term phase, but the dream f fully independent, AI-pwered humanid rbts — nes that match r beat human wrkers — remains a lng sht. Fr nw, what we’ve gt are human-shaped shells guided by peple behind the scenes. When Eln Musk intrduced Tesla’s Optimus rbt in 2021, he prudly claimed it culd teach, babysit, walk dgs, fetch grceries, r pur drinks. Yet thse rbts weren’t AI-driven, and each was cntrlled by a hidden human. Ntice a pattern? These tasks—lw-wage, service-riented jbs — suggest that, fr nw, humanid rbts just mask human effrt with a shiny surface.
Sme remte-cntrlled rbts serve real purpses, like in deep-sea explratin. But thse machines aren’t shaped like humans — they lk like capsules r small vehicles, and they wrk just fine. The idea that rbts must be human-shaped is a failure f imaginatin.
Yes, humanid rbts lk impressive. They remind us f the fantasies in science fictins where machines handle all difficult tasks. But tday, they are mstly marketing tls, masking human labr. And a rbt that desn’t truly imprve life is missing the pint.
      32. What des the underlined phrase “hlds sme water” mean in paragraph 3?
      A. Prvides sufficient evidence.B. Makes much sense.
      C. Is partly reasnable.D. Is widely accepted.
      33. Why des the authr mentin Tesla’s Optimus rbt?
      A. T prve humanid rbts are better.B. T highlight its impressive technlgy.
      C. T shw it can replace human wrkers.D. T suggest it is in the charge f humans.
      34. What is the authr’s attitude tward humanid rbts?
      A. Skeptical.B. Optimistic.C. Neutral.D. Cautius.
      35. What is the best title fr the passage?
A When Humanid Rbts Miss PtentialB. Hw Humanid Rbts Miss Gals
      C. What Humanid Rbts Lack NwD. Why Humanid Rbts Fall Shrt

Ppular science enthusiasts srt f tk this idea and spread it far and wide, and it’s becme wven in ppular culture nw and wn’t disappear anytime sn.

上文“During yur initial reading f material, d yu ever g back and reread sentences r paragraphs? Is it because the material is t difficult t cmprehend n the first reading r because yu are asleep? (在初次阅读材料时,你是否会回头重读句子或段落?是因为材料太难,第一次读无法理解,还是因为你打盹了?)” 以两个问句提出阅读回读的两种可能原因,围绕回读的成因展开提问。B项“原因很可能是后者”直接回应上文的两个原因,确定回读的核心原因是打盹,而非材料难懂,自然引出下文对打盹导致回读的具体阐述,符合语境。故选B。
      【37题详解】
上文“Halfway dwn the page yu realize that yu have n idea what yu have read. (读到页面中间时,你才意识到自己根本不知道读了些什么。)” 指出了打盹阅读后“读而不知其意”的状态,引出回读的行为。E项“你的眼睛在看,但你的脑子却没有跟上”承接上文,精准描述了打盹阅读的核心状态,解释了为何会出现“读了却不知所云”的情况,同时为下文点明“注意力不集中是回读主因”做铺垫,逻辑连贯。故选E。
      【38题详解】
上文“Be demanding n yurself and expect 100 percent attentin t the task. Engage yur mind. Visualize the incming ideas, and relate the new material t what yu already knw. (对自己严格要求,全身心投入到阅读任务中。调动你的思维,想象所读的内容,将新材料与已知知识联系起来。)” 给出了集中注意力、调动思维的阅读建议。C项“不要只看文字,要思考文字背后的含义”进一步阐释了“调动思维”的具体做法,强调阅读时的思考性,与上文的“投入思维、关联知识”相呼应,同时能支撑下文“专注文本则无心想琐事”的观点,逻辑通顺。故选C。
      【39题详解】
上文“First f all, becme aware f when and why yu are regressing. (首先,要意识到自己何时、为何会回读。)” 提出了改掉无意义回读习惯的第一步——认知问题。下文“Say. “OK. I missed that paragraph because I was thinking f smething else, but I’m ging t keep n ging and start paying clse attentin.””
上文围绕无意义回读的成因与改正方法展开,下文“Gd readers wh mnitr their wn cmprehensin use it in the reading prcess. Hwever, regressing because yur mind was asleep is a waste f time. (善于监控自身理解程度的优秀读者会在阅读过程中使用回读。然而,因为打盹而回读则是在浪费时间。)” 区分了合理回读与无意义回读的不同价值。G项“因理解困难而回读是一种合理的补救策略”承上启下,先明确存在合理的回读形式,与下文“优秀读者会使用回读”相呼应,同时为后文区分“合理回读”与“打盹导致的无意义回读”做铺垫,让段落逻辑层次清晰。故选G。
