Eye cntact is anther imprtant element. “If yu’re typing ntes int yur cmputer withut lking at yur patients — even if yu are listening and can say everything they said, yur bdy says yu aren’t listening,” Stach says. “And yu n lnger have a clsed space f attentin with each ther.”
Anyway, bdy language can send a message f care and trust, “In medicine, we’re ften in ur patient’s face during a medical exam, but when talking with them, being t clse may be intrusive, especially in Western cultures where we have brader persnal bdy cmfrtable distance,” Stach ntes. “But in Eastern cultures that distance is much narrwer. Studies have shwn that many peple dn’t cmmute by bike due mainly t a fear f being hit by cars. A new bike-munted prximity (接近) sensr has been designed t help such flks, by bjectively telling them which streets are the safest fr cyclists.
The new device (装置), PrxiCycle, simply replaces the bike’s existing left-side handlebar plug, where it uses tw special light sensrs t mnitr the spaces directly beside and immediately behind the bicycle. If the reading meets bth f thse criteria, it is saved as an example f a mtrized vehicle that passed the cyclist t clsely. The idea is that ver a relatively shrt perid f time, readings gathered frm multiple PrxiCycle users culd be used t paint a realistic picture f just hw dangerus varius streets actually are.
In an initial test f the technlgy, 7 cyclists rde thrugh Seattle with bth the device and an actin camera munted n their bike. Clse-passing incidents recrded by the PrxiCycle were fund t match up with thse captured by the camera.
Next, 15 Seattle cyclists used the device while ging n a cmbined ttal f 240 bike rides ver a tw-mnth perid. They recrded 2,050 clse passes in that time, with the majrity f the incidents taking place in lcatins where higher-than-average numbers f bike-car cllisins had already been reprted.
The incidents als mstly ccurred in areas that cyclists had previusly perceived as being dangerus. Imprtantly, hwever, the sensr data prved t be a mre accurate indicatr f just hw dangerus thse places actually were. Researchers nw plan n cnducting larger-scale studies, which will include testing the PrxiCycle in ther cities.

I hand him the gift, and his face lights up with jy. As I walk away, I reflect, “It must be a real pain, nt being able t jump arund r play basketball.”
At the next huse, I knck n the dr, nce again shuting “Gift giving.” Anther persn answers, and I see a little girl lying n a chair with tubes in her nse. Her brther is feeding her. I d the same-give her the gift and leave. It suddenly ccurs t me hw uncmfrtable it must be t lie there, unable t feed herself r enjy any fd she desires, especially sweets and chclate.
We reach the third huse. As I enter with the gift, the child desn’t seem t ntice me. Her mum explains that she’s deaf and partially sighted. I psitin myself in frnt f her s that she can see the gift. When I d that, she becmes extremely excited and expresses her gratitude(感激) thrugh sign language.

66.Aimed at helping the students frm pverty-stricken areas, the Student Unin launched a grand Charity Sale last Friday at ur schl’s stadium, which witnessed the kindness and genersity f all the students and teachers present.
As scheduled, the activity began at 3:00 p.m., lasting three hurs. What came first was a mving speech delivered by a vlunteer, mirrring the authentic life f the needy students and kindling the kindness. What subsequently fllwed was the exciting sales sectin where many secnd-hand items, ranging frm electrnic devices t ld fancy clthes, were sld at a pretty lw price. S enthusiastic were ur schlmates and teachers that all gds were snapped up within hurs. All the mney raised wuld be sent t the Red Crss and distributed t thse needy students.
This Charity Sale prved successful and meaningful. Nt nly did we students prmte ur scial respnsibilities, but we als understd every bit f ur kindness culd pile up enrmus strength.
67.Once back in the car, I can’t help but fall int deep thught. The smiles n the kids’ faces as they received gifts were etched in my mind, yet s were their challenging circumstances. The by in the wheelchair yearned t run and play like me, while the girl with tubes in her nse culdn’t enjy her favrite treats. The deaf and partially-sighted girl had t cmmunicate thrugh sign language. I realized hw much I had taken my health fr granted. My plans t laze arund at hme r play basketball suddenly seemed selfish. These kids fught fr every mment f jy, while I ften cmplained abut trivial things. This eye-pening experience made me see the wrld in a new light, filled with bth gratitude and a sense f respnsibility.题号
