Jnathan Harringtn, prfessr f phnetics and speech prcessing at the Ludwig-Maximilian University
f Munich, started the study. The researchers studied a grup f 11 scientists spending six mnths n an
island just west f the Antarctic Peninsula.
The scientists were frm several cuntries, including the US, the UK, Iceland and Germany. As part

change ver time in different English accents.

muths than tward the back. (British prnunciatins are already typically frnter than American /əʊ/.)

frm America, England, Canada and France visiting ur schl. In rder t help them enjy their time
here, the Students’ Unin has decided t rganize a Eurpean music week. It will be held in the last week
f September. Yu can sing pp sngs and play musical instruments, s dn’t frget t bring alng yur
musical instrument if yu have any. There will als be an interesting music cntest. During the
cmpetitin, the visiting students will sing the first sentence f a sng and yu will be required t guess
where the sng cmes frm and what’s the name f the sng. Please cme t the Students’ Unin ffice
t sign up befre September 15th if yu want t take part in any f the activities. The music week will be
