Last week, Amazn CEO Andy Jassy sent an email t his emplyees warning that artificial intelligence culd displace them. “We will need fewer peple ding sme f the current jbs,but mre peple ding ther types f jbs,” he wrte.

The real danger is that t much reliance n AI culd lead t a generatin f yung peple unequipped fr the jbs f the future because they have never learned t think creatively r critically.
The brain cntinues t develp and mature int ne’s mid-20s, but like a muscle, it needs t be exercised and challenged t grw strnger. Technlgy, especially AI, can blck this develpment by ding the wrk that the brain is expected t d.
A study last year analyzed brain electrical activity f university students during the activities f handwriting and typing. Thse wh were handwriting shwed higher levels f neural(神经) activatin acrss mre brain regins. “Whenever handwriting mvements are included as a learning strategy, mre f the brain gets stimulated, resulting in the frmatin f mre cmplex neural netwrk cnnectivity,” the researchers nted. “Hwever, mst students in clleges and many in high schls use AI tls t take ntes and summarize lectures.”
Why cmmit infrmatin t memry when AI tls can prvide answers at ur fingertips? Fr ne thing, the brain can’t draw cnnectins between ideas that aren’t there. Nthing cmes frm nthing. Creativity desn’t happen unless the brain is engaged.
Cllege and high-schl students als increasingly use AI tls t write papers, perfrm mathematical prfs, and create cmputer cde. That means they dn’t learn hw t think thrugh, express r defend ideas.
“Why hire a brainless bachelr’s degree hlder fr a jb that an AI tl can d at lwer csts and with n cmplaint?” Andy Jassy asked by the end f the letter.

B. Students culd benefit mre frm typing.
C. Handwriting was a superir learning strategy.
D. The brain had t be challenged t stay healthy.

Butter made frm air instead f cws? A Califrnia-based startup claims t have wrked ut a cmplex prcess that eliminates the need fr the animals while making its dairy-free alternative taste just as gd.
Savr, backed by the Micrsft billinaire Bill Gates, has been experimenting with creating dairy-free alternatives t ice-cream, cheese, and milk by utilizing (利用) a therm chemical prcess that allws it t build fat mlecules, creating chains f carbn dixide, hydrgen and xygen. The cmpany has nw annunced a new animal-free butter alternative.
Reducing meat and dairy cnsumptin is ne f the key ways that humanity can reduce its envirnmental impact, as livestck prductin is a significant surce f greenhuse gases, and Savr says its prducts will have a significantly lwer carbn ftprint than animal-based nes. The “butter” culd ptentially cme in at less than 0.8g CO2 equivalent per calrie. The standard climate ftprint f real unsalted butter with 80% fat is apprximately 2.4g CO2 equivalent per calrie.
Kathleen Alexander, Savr’s chief executive, said: “We are currently pre-cmmercial and wrking thrugh regulatry apprval t be able t sell ur butter. We are nt expecting t be able t mve frward with any kind f sales until at least 2025.”
Meat and dairy alternatives have becme mre and mre ppular in recent years, but sme fall shrt in terms f flavur. Savr says the flavur f its butter is mre exact. The questin nw is whether buyers will take t such synthetic fats. Getting peple t give up their favurite dairy and meat items fr mre “experimental” fds may pse a challenge.
Advcating fr the initiative in an nline blg pst, Gates wrte: “The idea f switching t lab-made fats and ils may seem strange at first. But their ptential t significantly reduce ur carbn ftprint is huge. By making use f prven technlgies and prcesses, we get ne step clser t achieving ur climate gals. The prcess desn’t release any greenhuse gases, and it uses n farmland and less than a thusandth f the water that traditinal agriculture des. And mst imprtantly, it tastes really gd-like the real thing, because chemically it is.”
12. What des the underlined wrd “eliminate” mean in paragraph ne?
A. Remve.B. Increase.C. Satisfy.D. Deepen.
13. Why des Savr chse t prduce the dairy-free alternative?
A. T lessen energy.B. T reduce the cst.
C. T better its flavur.D. T lwer carbn ftprint.
14. What can we knw abut the current situatin f the butter alternative?
A. It is well received by mst peple.
B. It has been prduced n a large scale.
C. It hasn’t been apprved t hit the market.
D. It cntributes t the livestck prductin.
15. What is Bill Gates’ attitude twards dairy-free alternatives?
A. Unclear.B. Favrable.C. Dubtful.D. Disapprving.
