Even nw, I have vivid memries f my last day f high schl. In my mind’s eye, I’m cleaning ut my lcker, and then staring at the emptiness fr a few extra beats befre slammed it shut fr the last time. I’m wandering in the halls with my best friend, blissfully ignring the bells ging ff every 50 minutes n schedule because, just tday, we’re allwed t break the rules. I’m sitting n my desk, swinging my feet, and chatting with my English teacher, Mr. Carr, in a way that makes me feel almst grwn up.
It was maybe my favrite day f the whle year. Like the final layer f waterclr, the freedm and lightness I feel seeps (渗透) int my memries f that day and turns them just a shade rsier.
If the schl year hasn’t yet ended fr yu, cnsider what yu can d t make the ending cunt. Why? Because when it cmes t human memry, nt all mments are created equal. Instead, ur remembered experiences are disprprtinately (不成比例地) influenced by peaks (the best mments as well as the wrst) and endings (the last mments). Nbel Prizewinner Daniel Kahneman, wh discvered this phenmenn, called this the peak-end rule. It suggests that ur judgment f a past experience is largely based n its mst extreme pint and its endpint.
I tk advantage f the peak-end rule years ag, when my girls were yung enugh t want a bedtime stry each night. I remember thinking that whatever truble and stress had ccurred that day, I culd make the last mments cunt. I culd end n a nte f calm and act like the patient mm I hadn’t quite managed t be just hurs befre.
Dn’t mistake all mments as equal in significance. There’s a reasn why yga classes end with savasana (挺卧式). There’s a reasn we eat dessert last. D rganize endings carefully. As Pete Carrll might say: Finish strng. Last impressins are especially lasting.
      4. Accrding t the peak-end rule, hw d peple usually judge past experiences?
      A. By calculating the ttal time spent.
      B. By remembering every detail equally.
      C. By cmparing them with thers’ experiences.
      D. By fcusing n the mst extreme and final mments.
      5. Hw did the authr apply the peak-end rule in her wn life?
      A. She avided stressful situatins entirely.
      B. She encuraged her children t study harder befre exams.
      C. She made sure her children had a calm and pleasant bedtime.
      D. She rganized mre activities fr her children during the day.
      6. Why des the authr mentin Pete Carrll’s wrds in the last paragraph?
      A. T encurage readers t pay attentin t endings.
      B. T explain why desserts are mre enjyable.
      C. T criticize peple’s unhealthy eating habits.
      D. T prve the peak-end rule can be used in sprts.
      7. What des the authr mainly discuss in the passage?
      A. The best ways t reduce stress befre bedtime.
      B. The peak-end rule and its influence n memry.
      C. The imprtance f fllwing schl rules strictly.
      D. Hw t create unfrgettable high schl memries.
      C
Stanfrd assistant prfessr Ruike Zha published a grundbreaking medical breakthrugh in Nature: using a tiny 2 mm micrrbt, she increased the success rate f bld clt (血块) remval frm a mere 11% t an amazing 90%, sending shckwaves thrugh the medical wrld.
In mdern sciety, abut ne in every dzen peple may experience a bld clt in their lifetime. It is widely knwn that bld clts are the leading cause f strkes and heart attacks. During treatment, the ability t quickly and effectively restre bld flw becmes a matter f life and death.
Unfrtunately, traditinal mechanical methds have a lw success rate. The prcess is like trying t pick up brken tfu with chpsticks— nt nly is success unlikely, but the situatin may even wrsen. Bld clts may break apart while being defrmed, resulting in small pieces stuck in hard-t-reach areas.
Hwever, Prfessr Zha’s 2 mm micr-rbt enters bld vessels (血管) and, using high-speed rtatin (旋转), generates frces t reduce the clt size t 5%. It’s like when yu press and rub sft things, like hair, between yur hands. The frce makes them stick tgether int a small ball. The micr-rbt wrks similarly, using pressure t bring the clt cmpnents tgether, making them easier t remve. This prcess requires n drugs, causes n vessel damage, and effectively releases trapped red bld cells back int bld.
What’s astnishing is that this innvatin is inspired frm subway TBMs, tunnel-bring machines (盾构机). The way tunnel-bring machines efficiently handle hard sil and rck in narrw spaces inspired the creatin. This brilliant Chinese researcher miniaturized the enrmus undergrund machine t a size tens f thusands f times smaller and adapted it fr use in human bld vessels.
Currently, the technlgy has been successfully tested n pigs. While mst f these studies remain in the labratry phase, the breakthrugh itself is exciting. This technlgy may sn extend beynd bld clts t address issues like kidney stnes r gallstnes.
      8. What’s the functin f Paragraph 1?
      A. T lead int the tpic.B. T explain a cmmn phenmenn.
      C. T intrduce a famus scientist.D. T criticize a new study.
      9. What can we knw abut Zha’s micr-rbt?
      A. It usually increases the clt size.
      B. It prevents clts frm frming again.
      C. It has been carried ut n real patients.
      D. It raises success rate and reduces side effects.
      10. What des the authr try t illustrate by mentining TBMs?
      A. The cst f medical rbtics.B. The reasn behind the numerus trials.
      C. The inspiratin behind the innvatin.D. The imprtance f mdern machinery.
      11. Where can we prbably read the passage?
      A. In a gegraphy textbk.B. In a medical magazine.
      C. On a culture website.D. In a travel guide.
      D
Scientists annunced that the past summer was likely the httest in mdern histry, as a shcking heatwave shattered temperature recrds glbally. This surge suggests the Earth might be entering a perid f exceptinal warmth lasting several years, primarily driven by human-caused greenhuse gas emissins and the return f El Nin.
The planet has just experienced its warmest June n recrd, with severe heatwaves affecting regins like Texas and India. Alarming changes are als seen in the plar regins: Antarctic sea ice has drpped t a recrd lw, while the Nrth Atlantic Ocean has shwn unusually high temperatures, breaking previus recrds by a significant margin.
This sudden temperature jump has surprised even climate scientists. Accrding t an analysis, the glbal average temperature recently reached its highest level since at least 1940. While this is a glbal average, sme areas, such as the Suthern US and Nrthern Mexic, experienced even mre intense heat, with climate change making the heatwave cnsiderably wrse.
The lng-term warming trend aligns with scientific predictins based n greenhuse gas increases. Hwever, natural cycles are als influencing the recent acceleratin. The wrld is transitining frm a prlnged La Nina phase, which suppressed glbal temperatures, int a strng El Nin phase, which releases cean heat and warms the atmsphere. This shift suggests that even htter cnditins may lie ahead, ptentially making next year warmer than the current ne.
Other factrs may be cntributing. The Nrth Atlantic has been exceptinally warm since March, pssibly due t weakened winds and reduced dust frm the Sahara, which nrmally has a cling effect. Sme scientists als debate whether reduced sulfur pllutin frm ships, which previusly reflected sunlight, might be a minr cntributing factr.
Despite these shrt-term influences, climate scientists emphasize the fundamental rle f human activities. The cntinuus increase in greenhuse gases ver the past 150 years has created a backgrund state that makes extreme heat events much mre likely and severe, setting the stage fr recrds t be brken.
      12. What is the main reasn fr the current perid f exceptinal warmth accrding t the text?
      A. Human-made greenhuse gas emissins.B. The decrease in sulfur pllutin.
      C. The return f the La Nina phase.D. Weakened winds ver the Nrth Atlantic.
      13. What can be inferred abut the El Nin phenmenn frm the text?
      A. It had reached its peak intensity.
      B. It usually cls glbal temperatures.
      C. It may cause even higher temperatures next year.
      D. It caused the Nrth Atlantic heat in March.
      14. Which f the fllwing statements may the authr agree?
      A. The Nrthern Mexic suffered frm less intense heat.
      B. The warming trend was unexpected by scientists.
      C. The Antarctic sea ice levels increased this year.
      D. The glbal average temperature recently hit a recrd high.
      15. What is the main purpse f the article?
      A. T predict precise weather fr the next decade.
      B. T explain the reasns fr recent recrd heat.
      C. T criticize the reductin f ship pllutin.
      D. T discuss heatwaves’ impacts in Texas and India.
