kids’ reactins. I dn’t think I’ll ever get tired f that. Many mistakenly called them king-size bars (糖果棒). I
guess cmpared t the mini nes they lk pretty big. There’s nthing better than seeing a kid’s eyes bug ut when
yu give them a full-size Snickers r M& Ms.
We had well ver 200 trick r treaters this year and I still had t give sme kids the backup (备用的) candy. I’

I can’t believe it’s been a whle year. Last year, Hallween came just a few weeks after my wrld fell apart

While huge prgress has been made in cyber (网络)security ne weakness cntinues t vershadw all
thers: human errr. Research has cntinually shwn human errr is respnsible fr mst f successful cyber
attacks. A recent reprt puts the number at 68%.

N matter hw advanced ur technlgical prtectin becme, the human factr is likely t remain the
weakest link in the cyber security chain. This weakness affects everyne using digital devices. Yet, traditinal cyber
educatin and awareness prgrams and even new laws fail t address it enugh.
There are tw types f human errr in cyber security. The first is skill-based errrs. These appear when peple
are ding rutine things, especially when their attentin is taken away. Fr example, yu might frget t cpy
desktp data frm yur cmputer even if yu knw yu shuld d it and knw hw t d it (because yu have dne
it befre). The secnd type is knwledge-based errrs. These happen when smene with less experience makes
cyber security mistakes because they lack imprtant knwledge r dn’t fllw specific rules.
Organizatins and gvernments have put a lt f time and effrt in cyber security educatin prgrams t
address human errr. Hwever, these prgrams have had mixed results. This is partly because many prgrams take
a technlgy-centric, ne-size-fits-all methd. They ften fcus n specific technical aspects. Yet, they dn’t
address the pssible psychlgical (心理的)and behaviral prblems that influence peple’s actins.
The reality is that changing human behaviur is far mre cmplex (复杂的) than simply prviding
infrmatin r requiring certain practices. A greater emphasis is needed n human-centered appraches t cyber
security where peple’s needs, mtivatins, behavirs, and abilities cme first in determining the design, and
peratin, f infrmatin technlgy systems. If we can better understand what’s behind human errr, we can
design mre effective training prgrams and security practices that wrk with, rather than against human nature.
8. What d we knw frm paragraph 2?
A. New laws are pwerful enugh. B. Technlgical defence is useless.
C. Digital devices are difficult t use. D. Human errr is hard t deal with.
9. What might cause skill-based errrs?
A Being shrt f knwledge. B. Lacking valuable experience.
C. Failing t fllw specific rules. D. Being attracted by ther things.
10. Why d cyber security educatin prgrams have mixed results?
A. They ignre psychlgical factrs. B. They fcus n all aspects f cyber.
C. They adpt a persnalized methd. D. They take t much time and effrt.
11. What’s the authr’s attitude t human-centered appraches?
A. Dubtful. B. Supprtive. C. Critical. D. Objective.

The late Charlie Munger was endlessly quted as saying, “If yu have a flish incentive (激励) system, yu
get flish utcmes.” A cuple f recent studies underline the risk that incentives will have unintended results.
One, frm Jakb Altifian and Dirk Sliwka f the University f Clgne and Tim Vgelsang f the Frankfurt
Schl f Finance and Management, tested the effect f paying an attendance bnus (奖金) n levels f absence.
They did s by dividing wrkers at a German retailer int tw grups and ffered a financial reward r sme extra
hlidays fr a perfect attendance recrd. Hwever the bnus actually had the ppsite effect: It actually increased
rates f absence by 50% n average. It seems that rewarding peple fr ding things that they wuld d anyway
can easily backfire.
T wrk ut what was ging n the researchers surveyed wrkers after the experiment had ended. They fund
that the intrductin f a bnus changed wrkers’ view n what cunted as acceptable behaviur. The message that
attendance can get a reward made peple feel less required t wrk and less guilty if they take sick leaves.
A secnd study, by Luan Yingyue and Kim Yeun Jn f the Cambridge Judge Business Schl, tested the
effects f making cperativeness linked t mney. Surveys n affected wrkers fund that althugh there were
mre frequent examples f helpful behaviur, the inner drive t be cperative was n the decrease and the quality
f help that peple actually gave each ther went dwn.
The tw studies prve the wisdm f Munger's saying. As Stephan Meier, an academic at Clumbia Business
Schl, argues persuasively in “The Emplyee Advantage”, a new bk, peple are driven by many mre things
than mney. S incentives shuld be applied — with great care.
12. Why is Charlie Munger’s wrds mentined in paragraph 1?
A. T raise questins. B. T create a real situatin.
C. T lead t the tpic. D. T set ut the backgrund.
13. What des the underlined wrd “backfire” mean in paragraph2?
A. Pay ff at last. B. Cme int effect.
C. Put ut the fire. D. Have the ppsite result.
14. What did the secnd study find?
A. Wrkers gt mre rewards. B. The quality f help drpped.
C. Helpful behavir disappeared. D. Inner drive increased rapidly.
15. What’s the main idea f the passage?
A. Unexpected results f nice bnus. B. Different types f flish incentives.
C. Unintended effects f pr incentives. D. Careful applicatin f handsme bnus.
