But like my father, I saw the bright side —— s many peple read the piece and lved it, sharing jyful emtins and praise n scial media. It did wnders fr my cnfidence.
Tday, when dubts clud my mind, I think f Appa's sharpened pencil. Its purpse may have been t slve a crsswrd. A crsswrd is cmplete —— and gives ne jy — with nly s many wrds, and nly when each wrd rests n elements frm the thers. Culdn't my wrds hld a duality (双重性) that cmpletes my purpse t? And s, nw I take up assignments, sme that pay well, sme that dn't, but tgether, and mst imprtantly, they fill me with jy. After all, it is nly ur heartfelt passin that matters.

Have yu ever wndered why certain sngs r paintings feel deeply satisfying? Language expert Jay Keyser's research finds that repetitin makes art speak t us.
Artists like jazz musician Duke Ellingtn and painter Andy Warhl purpsefully use repetitin—— nt simply as cpying, but as a clever“same, but different” skill. In Ellingtn's Satin Dll, fr example, the rhythm repeats while the ntes stay high r lw, and the sng's wrds mirrr this pattern. Warhl's sup cans appear alike at first sight, yet each design changes a little. This skill—— called“same/ except” by JayKeyser in his bk Play it again, Sam—— makes art feel richer and mre pleasant t ur brains.
Interestingly, discvering repetitin brings much mre. Cnsider a phtgraph f the US city fAlbuquerque that is ften discussed fr its meaning. Lk clser, and yu may find that a dg sits in the center with a street sign shadw t its right cpying its shape. Recgnizing this hidden pattern, as Keyser suggests, repays us with unexpected pleasure and mre. Training ur eyes t ntice such patterns ——whether in petry, paintings r sngs—— unlcks new meaning.
Why des repetitin create such a cnnectin? Accrding t Keyser, science ffers an answer: the mere expsure effect (单纯曝光效应). Just as a baby grws fnd f a mther's face thrugh repeated sights, we naturally develp a liking fr familiar patterns. Advertisers use this by repeating prduct names t build trust. Artists harness it t—— Warhl's repeated cans r a sng's repeated catchy parts make us feel cmfrted and cnnected.
Keyser shws great art wrks with the brain's makeup. When artists repeat certain parts with changes, the art is in line with hw ur minds seek rder, expect patterns, and gain jy frm“finding” cnnectins——thugh we are nt aware f it. By studying hw artists skillfully apply the“same/ except” skill acrss mediums, and by cnnecting these chices with science, we gain the key t admiring creativity's universal magic. This makes everyday experiences with music, paintings, and wrds much richer.
      28. What des the“same/ except” skill fcus n?
      A. Nn-traditinal artistic styles.
      B. Cmbining different art frms.
      C. Repetitin with slight variatins.
      D. Breaking all patterns cmpletely.
      29. What des the example f the Albuquerque pht highlight?

      B. Admiring street art lifts ne's spirits.
      C. Repetitin enriches art experiences.
      D. Famus art deserves lasting discussin.
      30. What des the underlined wrd“harness” in paragraph 4 prbably mean?

      B. Turn dwn.
      C. Have cntrl f.
      D. Make ut.
      31. What des the last paragraph mainly tell us?

We are increasingly defined by technlgy and ur active participatin in everything frm smart phnes t scial media. It might just be time fr the basic human needs f fd, water and shelter t incrprate (吸收) technlgy t.And when that happens, it just might be a gd idea t measure it.

      阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
“Is the glass half empty r half full?” This ldEnglish saying has lng been used t differentiate a pessimist frm an ptimist. Fr mst yung peple tday, the answer is usually“half full”, because we have been taught that a psitive attitude twards life is ne f the primary keys t success.36 Recent studies indicate that it all depends.
There is such a thing as t much psitivity, als knwn as txic psitivity. It happens when smene remains in a happy and psitive state and ignres any bad and negative emtins acrss all situatins.37 The death f a pet, a lw scre n a test, r a muntain f new hmewrk shuld lead t emtins such as sadness, frustratin and anger. If we hide these emtins just because we want t lk ptimistic in frnt f ur friends and family, they can build up inside f us and end up erupting in unexpected ways.38
39 Imagine having had a bad day, and wanting t talk abut it with yur friend. Hwever, instead f listening t yur prblems and sympathizing with yu, they simply tld yu t“be psitive” and t“lk n the bright side.” By saying such things, they give yu the impressin that yur prblems are being cmpletely ignred. Mrever, since yu dn't have the right“attitude,” yur prblems are ultimately yur wn fault.
That being said, nbdy likes t be arund depressed peple. Just take everything as it cmes and express hw yu really feel.40 Given everything I have already said, my simple advice t yu is t d that which gives yu the best“attitude” in life, whatever fr yu that might be. Regardless f whether a glass is half-empty r half-full, it nnetheless still has space t fill.
      A. Hwever, is being negative necessarily a bad thing?
      B. This makes yu human, and yur true friends will stick by yu.
      C. But actually, it is nrmal fr us t experience varius emtins in a day.
      D. This is why I wuld want t write abut staying psitive in difficult times.
      E. Evidence suggests verly psitive peple are at higher risk f psychlgical prblems.
      F. Besides persnal emtinal impacts, txic psitivity can negatively affect peple arund yu.
      G. But with everything ging n, it might feel t yu like a cntinuus struggle t remain psitive.

I highly recmmend intrducing table tennis as a featured sprt in the upcming sprts festival.
Nt nly is table tennis fun but it is als highly beneficial —— it imprves hand-eye crdinatin, bsts reactins, and enhances cncentratin. It's a great way fr students t exercise and stay healthy withut requiring t much physical strain.
What's mre, it is quite feasible t rganize the sprt. Our schl already has several ping-png tables available, and the sprt is suitable fr students at all skill levels. Since many students have shwn interest, setting up matches r casual play sessins will be bth easy and engaging.
Let's make table tennis part f ur sprts festival —— it's fun, healthy, and inclusive!
