There has been tremendus cncern recently ver misinfrmatin n scial media. This cncern is quite justifiable, as the cnsequences f believing false infrmatin are greatly affecting the individual and cllective health.
Many peple tend t fall fr misinfrmatin they encunter nline. There is ne influential explanatin fr this phenmenn. As the thinking ges, smene, wh pssesses very limited skills in finding and cnsuming digital cntent, creating digital cntent, and cmmunicating it, is likely t have difficulty recgnizing false infrmatin and thus is mre vulnerable t believing false infrmatin. As a result, these less digitally literate peple may play a significant part in the spread f misinfrmatin.
This argument sunds perfectly plausible. Yet very little research has actually investigated the link between digital literacy and the vulnerability t believing false infrmatin. There’s even less understanding f the ptential link between digital literacy and what peple share n scial media. A grup f MIT researchers explred these ptential assciatins by surveying 1,341 Americans.
In the experiment, the researchers first shwed the participants tw dzen news headlines abut plitics, half f which were accurate, and half f which were false. At last, the participants were required t assess the accuracy f a set f headlines and pint ut their likelihd f sharing each headline n scial media.
The researchers fund “clear evidence” that digital literacy was a strng predictr f accuracy discernment Hwever, the results were “strikingly different” regarding sharing discernment. Digitally literate subjects were just as likely t share inaccurate infrmatin. Mst surprisingly, even peple with high digital literacy were nt immune frm clicking “share” fr false news.
This sunds dd. Althugh mst peple dn’t want t spread misinfrmatin, scial media is distracting: peple are scrlling quickly, and their attentin is drawn t scial validatin (社会认知度), such as hw many likes their psts will get. S make sure a certain pst is accurate befre yu click the “share” buttn.

根据第二段“As the thinking ges, smene, wh pssesses very limited skills in finding and cnsuming digital cntent, creating digital cntent, and cmmunicating it, is likely t have difficulty recgnizing false infrmatin and thus is mre vulnerable t believing false infrmatin. As a result, these less digitally literate peple may play a significant part in the spread f misinfrmatin.(按照这种思路,一个人在发现和消费数字内容、创造数字内容和传播数字内容方面的技能非常有限,他很可能难以识别虚假信息,因此更容易相信虚假信息。因此,这些不太懂数字的人可能会在错误信息的传播中发挥重要作用。)”可知,关于人们相信网络错误信息的流行理论强调了参与数字空间的能力。故选A项。
根据第三段划线单词后“Yet very little research has actually investigated the link between digital literacy and the vulnerability t believing false infrmatin.(然而,很少有研究真正调查了数字素养与容易相信虚假信息之间的联系。)”
根据第四段“In the secnd phase, they included a series f tests: having the participants reprt their familiarity with varius Internet-related terms and answer questins abut hw scial media platfrms decide what t shw in their newsfeeds. We all knw hw it feels t get lst in a great bk. But what's happening in ur brains as we dive int it? Hw is it different frm what happens as we experience real life? Nw, a new study led by Dr Leila Wehbe and Dr Tm Mitehell f Carnegie Melln University have prvided partial answers t these questins.
Since reading cmprehensin is a highly cmplex prcess, earlier studies tried t break that prcess dwn and fcus n just ne aspect at a time: mapping fMRI signatures (特征) assciated with prcessing a single wrd r sentence, fr example. “It's usually nt like reading a bk, and usually the stimulus (刺激物) cnsists f ut-f-cntext sentences designed specifically fr the experiment”.
T address these issues, the researchers develped a cmputer prgram t lk fr patterns f brain activity that appeared when peple read certain wrds, specific grammatical structures, particular characters names and ther aspects f the stry — a ttal f 195 different “stry features”. In the study, they first asked eight vlunteers t read Chapter 9 f Harry Ptter and the Srcerer's Stne and recrded their brain activity using an fMRI scanner (扫描仪). Then the researchers fed the vlunteers' fMRI data int their cmputer prgram and had the prgram identify the respnses f different brain regins t the 195 features mentined abve.
The result shwed that when the vlunteers read descriptins f physical mvement in the stry, there was significantly increased activity in the psterir tempral crtex, the regin invlved in perceiving real-wrld mvement. Besides dialgue was specifically related with the right temprparietal junctin, a key area invlved in imagining thers thughts and gals. "This is truly shcking fr us as these regins aren't even cnsidered t be part f the brain's language system," Wehbe says.
Next, Wehbe and Mitchell hpe t study hw and why language prcessing can g wrng. “If we have a large enugh amunt f data”, Wehbe says, “we culd find the specific ways in which ne brain — fr example, the brain f a dyslexic (诵读困难的) persn — is perfrming differently frm ther brains.” And this, the researchers think, may smeday help us design individually tailred (特制的) treatments fr dyslexia and ther reading disrders.
