Wildlife phtgrapher Sam Turley and his wife Vera fund a tw-week-ld blesbk (南非白面大羚羊) — whm they named Meme — n her wn. She was sptted wandering arund n her wn after her mther passed away.
The pair tk Meme in and raised the animal themselves fr seven mnths befre releasing her back ut int the wild. Neither f them had ever raised a blesbk befre. S it required a huge amunt f patience and cmpassin t keep her fit and healthy but it deserved the effrt. Meme wuld fllw Vera wherever she went and smetimes the cuple wuld have a blesbk, a dg and a cat all walking tgether. In the right areas, blesbk are a really cmmn antelpe t see and they are therefre ften verlked and under-appreciated. It was a privilege t be let int blesbk’s secret wrld and they learned mre abut blesbk than they thught was ever pssible.
After releasing Meme back ut int the wild, the cuple were cnvinced they wuld never see her again, until several mnths later when they were driving arund a reserve and happened t cme acrss a herd f blesbk.
Vera called ut Meme’s name in the hpe f finding Meme. Blesbk all lk very similar t ne anther, which makes it very difficult t distinguish individuals. When Vera started t talk, the herd raised their heads and lked ver. Vera cntinued t call Meme and as all the ther blesbk lst interest, ne individual held her gaze and ran straight up t her.
After rescuing the lnely animal, Sam and Vera fund it extremely emtinal t have t release her back ut int the wild t fend fr herself — even thugh they knew it was the right thing t d. But after having such a strng bnd with an animal, it was really difficult t see her g. They had put s much time, effrt and energy int raising her but t see her walking in a herd f blesbk made it all wrthwhile.

The wrld’s biggest electric vehicle — a 45-tn mining dump truck named the eDumper — may have t give up its thrne. A newcmer pwered with bth electricity and a reserve f hydrgen fuel, is ging t steal that title as the largest electric mining truck.
Lndn-based Angl American is develping the beast f a machine — it weighs 290 tns — as part f its sustainable mining visin. The cnceptual wrk is dne, but UK-based Williams Advanced Engineering will bring the truck t life. The idea is t replace the vehicle’s diesel engine (柴油机) with a high-pwer mdular lithium-in battery (锂电池). “We are delighted t be invlved in this innvative and exciting prject which shws the ptential f battery technlgy that can adapt t increased demands, frm autmtive and mtrsprt t ‘heavy duty’ industrial applicatins,” Craig Wilsn, managing directr f Williams Advanced Engineering, said.
While the eDumper — a mining truck used t mve stnes frm the sides f muntains in Switzerland — relies entirely n pure electricity and pure physics fr pwer, the Angl American truck will use bth a lithium-in battery and hydrgen fuel cell (电池) mdule. Altgether, the new truck will have ver 1,000 Kilwatt hurs f energy strage.
Hydrgen fuel is a clear fuel that prduces nly water as a by-prduct when cnsumed in a fuel cell. It’s typically prduced frm natural gas, nuclear pwer, r renewable wind and slar pwer. Adding hydrgen fuel cells t the vehicle’s battery will allw the truck t run fr lnger perids f time withut recharging.
There’s als a third type f pwer that cmes int play with the Angl American truck: kinetic (动力的) energy created thrugh the prcess f regenerative braking (再生制动系统). When an electric vehicle — be it the Angl American truck, r the eDumper — rlls dwn a hill, that mvement creates electrical energy fr the battery as yu brake. The electric mtrs pwer the car thrugh the battery’s stred energy, but can als becme mini generatrs that return sme energy back t the battery.
After Angl American finishes test trials with the truck, the firm will cnduct studies t understand hw the truck’s pwer units can be used t prvide energy strage in ther applicatins.
      28. What can be knwn abut “the eDumper”?
      A. It weighs mre than 290 tns.
      B. It is pwered by hydrgen fuel.
      C. It will n lnger be the largest electric truck.
      D. It will discurage buyers fr being expensive.
      29. What is Craig Wilsn’s attitude twards the future f the lithium-in battery?
      A. Negative.B. Neutral.C. Indifferent.D. Psitive.
      30. What is the benefit f adpting hydrgen fuel cells?
      A. It can save a lt f mney.
      B. Vehicles becme mre ec-friendly.
      C. It has n envirnmental impact at all.
      D. Vehicles n lnger need t be recharged.
      31. Accrding t Paragraph 5, which f the fllwing can be a feature f regenerative braking?
      A. Autnmus braking.B. Simple peratin.
      C. Energy transfrmatin.D. Zer-carbn emissin.
      D
Hw many different emtins, really, can run thrugh a persn’s mind? Sme scientists have argued that there are six distinct types, give r take — anger, fear, sadness, disgust, surprise, and happiness. But based n Americans’ descriptins f their wn experiences in a recent study, there may actually be many mre.
Researchers at the University f Califrnia, Berkeley enlisted nline participants t indicate their emtinal respnses t a stck f mre than 2,000 vide clips and GIFs featuring baby animals, an awkward high-five, a starry sky, graphic vilence and nudity, and many ther flavrs f imagery discvered frm the depths f the internet.
Based n statistical analyses, the team cncluded that a series f 27 separate categries f emtin best accunted fr viewers’ annunced experiences — ranging frm “empathic pain” (imagine watching a Jackass stunt) t “adratin” (cmmn when viewing puppies) t straightfrward “excitement.” Meanwhile, certain emtins, such as awkwardness and amusement, were ften caused by the same vide. “There desn’t seem t be a clear bundary between categries,” says Alan Cwen, wh c-authred the reprt with Dacher Keltner.
The researchers als prduced an interactive visualizatin based n the emtinal respnses t each clip. The clseness f emtin labels t ne anther lsely indicates hw frequently the emtins tended t arise at the same time.
The map is nt final: It leaves ut emtins like envy and shame, which might require mre persnal frms f elicitatin (引出), and its categries culd vary acrss cultures. But it des illustrate the richness f ur emtinal landscape, and that in itself is pretty exciting.
      32. What is mainly discussed in paragraph 2?
      A. Research purpses.B. Research prcess.
      C. Research methds.D. Research results.
      33. Which f the fllwing is NOT ne f the research findings?
      A. A ttal f 27 separate categries f emtin are identified.
      B. It requires mre persnal frms t cause envy and shame.
      C. The bundary between categries f emtin seems vague.
      D. Awkwardness and amusement can arise by watching the same vide.
      34. What is true abut the interactive visualizatin map?
      A. The map is t be cntinued.
      B. Emtin labels are clse t each ther.
      C. Our emtinal landscape is nt rich enugh.
      D. Many emtins tend t ccur at the same time.
      35. What methd is mainly used in the research?
      A. Making cmparisns.B. Making assumptins.
      C. Ding questinnaires.D. Analyzing data.
