They fund that the cats have 276 different expressins. “Each expressin was a mixture f different facial mvements, which included licking (舔) their nse, pening their muth, r widening the pupils f their eyes,” said the scientists. They als fund cats use 26 f these facial mvements in ttal, which can be mixed t express hw they are feeling. Dgs use 27 facial mvements and humans use a ttal f 44.
Out f the expressins they recrded, 45% were friendly and 37% were angry. “A friendly cat mves its ears and whiskers frward and clses its eyes. Hwever, an angry cat ften flattens its ears t its head, makes its pupils smaller and licks its lips,” said the team.
Althugh the researchers aren’t sure what the cats were trying t cmmunicate with each ther using their faces, they plan t study cats in ther places t imprve their understanding.
